Trinity Ghoul Inconsistently Getting Lightning Rod Perk on Precision Kill

The Trinity Ghoul exotic bow is supposed to get an AOE electrified arrow on a precision kill, but there have been many a time in which you are not granted the arrow on a precision kill. I noticed that this occurs more often on skinny humanoid targets such as the Fallen and the Scorn; I rarely get this issue whenever I get precision kills on the Taken, however. EDIT: I would also like to point out that I noticed that this bow would sometimes get the arrow when I DON'T land a precision headshot. It's weird that way.

  • I tested this last night and it is in fact related to reload speed of the arrow, I used ophidian aspects and if I try to kill everything as fast as possible while consistently landing crit kills I almost NEVER got lightning rod for the sheer fact that I already have another arrow nocked before the kill registers. Plz fix Bungie.

  • I've noticed if you crit with some weapons that have some "Precision Kill" requirement that even if the enemy dies, the thing does not proc always. could be a number of factors, but you are right, it tends to happen with Fallen Dregs, Scorn equivalent, and Hive Thrall. It might be a Fluke, or the enemy didn't die outright from the Precision Kill. but whatever secondary DoT affecting it capping off that final 1 HP that doesn't visually register, but the engine still counts as Crit Kill with visuals for such, but not proc the ability of the weapons.

  • I think it's because the arrow that gets counted as the killing arrow wasn't a precision hit. That's just my guess though. I have noticed it's even harder to get it to proc in Gambit.

  • After a little experimenting, I found that you need to let the arrow sit of your hip for a split second to let the perk proc. It doesn't work if you get the kill and pull the next arrow without delay. Kinda sucks and I don't use the bow because of it.

    • It tends to happen if you land a body shot and a headshot on the same shot. I guess the bows always count the body shot as the kill shot... idk. Regardless it’s annoying because the exotic is really fun to use... but the perk is 50/50

      • I think you need to hit all three arrows as precision hits. I've noticed that if only 2 out of 3 are precision hits and the other misses entirely then it won't activate. Try being closer up. I've found that tends to make it more consistent.

        • I've seen it too. I think the arrow splitting into 3 plays a role somehow.

            • Bungie is aware of the problem. Resolve: We are just going to remove this intrinsic perk ,were to lazy to fix,and Activision is on are asses to make more money. We are making a trinity ghoul emote that you can purchase for 100,000 silver. P.S. Friendship is the true endgame.

            • Yea, is kinda sad that the perk doesnt work properly and does less dmg than I though it would, right now your better with a regular bow wich is quite sad

              • By for won't fix it....they will just rename the perk ' precision kills will randomly activate lighting bolts to nearby enemys'

                • I've also noticed this. I believe whats happening is since the arrow splits into 3, if one of the splits doesnt hit a crit and does the final amount of damage to make the kill, it doesnt count. The same thing happens with the Hunters new Void class on weapons with Explosive Payload. They dont always proc invisibility. Because the explosive damage actually kills the enemy. I have been testing this on my Hunter using the bow and subclass at the same time. Theoretically if the bow and invisibility proc at the same time, everything is working properly. If the invisibility procs but the bow doesnt, theres a problem with the bow.

                      • I've been having fun with it in crucible, way slower play style, but ha ing lightning rod active with a bunch of enemies next to each other is dirty, easy triple kill lol.

                        • I've noticed it's a coin flip on more narrow targets. Precision hit have also been showing smaller white numbers as if one or two of the arrows are dropping into a body hit as well as a precision hit.

                        • Only BUNGIE could take what started as an exciting exotic concept and mess it up horribly.
