Is Shin Malphur really one of the good guys?

I mean sure he was right in killing Dregen Yor and the original shadows and sure the drifter isn’t made of the sturdiest of moral fibre but he’s also clearly isn’t the guy who cared about his crew and at this point shin is just killing by association.

  • Yes and no. The whole Shadows issue gets into a grey area because Shin is allowing Drifter to do all his Drifter things to get info on the others, which could very well endanger other Guardians. There’s also the issue of, well, killing other Guardians, even if they are corrupted. But if Shin succeeds and is able to get enough info to kill the Shadows in quick succession, then the issue of corrupted Guardians could just become a legend or memory.

  • I think it would be VERY nice of Bungie's writing team if they move from "good vs. evil" to "light. vs. dark" By that I mean that we cut away the association that light is always good and dark is always bad. Maybe introduce some conflicts among characters, even among the tower NPCs and vendors. Make it so that people use the light for evil deeds and that some use the dark for beneficial things. Mix it up and blend it. Probably would add a whole new, and maybe even needed, layer of spice to the entire Destiny fluff.

I think people got caught up in the forums and think that shin is way worse than he is because people assume he is. Kind of like a Snowball Effect. But nothing in the game has shown him to be anything other than a gunslinger that will hunt down anyone that has ties to the darkness. He isn't threatening The Drifter in any way other than warning him not to go too far to the dark. He used The Drifter as a helper to kill the shadows, and The Drifter was a willing associate.

      • Nope He's so afraid of the Darkness that he's willing to kill anyone who gets too close it.

        • Funny thing about associating with the bad guys is that the good guys get all up in arms at you for it, weird right?

          • Well no. He's letting the Drifter carry out Gambit to draw out the other Shadows. He says as much in his last conversation with him, where Drifter isnt aware that it's Shin
