Given that the game runs a hybrid P2P network with some elements handled by Bungie servers, can we get some details on recommended up/down connection speeds for playing.
This is especially relevant to playing PVP where a given connection is sharing information with 11 other people plus Bungie servers. While I’m sure the volume of information is kept as efficient as possible undoubtedly the size of packet data has increased over the years.
The reason I wonder is that while I have a ‘theoretical’ 16mbps download (real time average 5-7mbps) line the average upload speed is around 0.6-0.8mbps, peak being around 1.1mbps. This is probably typical of the non fibre connections (certainly in my area, where they have no plans to upgrade the local phone exchange) and while at peak this may be fine I’m sure when it’s low (0.6) is when I start to see lag (which is my end causing the issue not anyone else) and obviously that then means the damage referee will effectively punish the bad connection.
I’m in process to moving to Cable Fibre which will improve average upload to around 12mbps, but would be good for others on non fibre to be aware of requirement and recommendation for maintaining optimal game performance.
If expectations were set on reasonable connection required to operate it may help people understand whether the issue is the game (default position, myself included) or their connection
