Banned for running in Linux with Wine.

My account was wrongfully banned. The ban information page says there's no chance to appeal. All I did was run the game in Linux which doesn't modify the game's files or overlays in any way. It's not against your ToS and I have a decent chunk of time and micro transaction money invested into the account. I have 3+ hours of raw, uncut footage of every step I took along the way to try and make this work for a tutorial. I'll provide this to any support rep who requests it but keep in mind it's 3+hours of almost uncompressed raw 4k footage so the files are quite large. Please assist. EDIT: I will not be buying another copy of this game. If you want more sweet sweet micro transaction monies from me restore my original account. Otherwise I'm out. I'll dispute what I can with my bank and take the rest to court if im forced to. EDIT 2: Bungie you've had false positives before and you reversed the bans then. Please restore my account and white list wine! https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/46426 EDIT 3: as of 12/13/18 I have had no response to any contact through official channels.

  • Those micro transactions are gone if you’re banned, and small claims court won’t be doing much help. Agreeing to that EULA is what’s in your way.

    • All this stuff happening during this comp, has taught me one thing. I had to step back from my disgust, and take a look at how I play the game. I primarily solo, actually I only solo. With the exception of matchingmaking activities. With the stuff i've been reading and what people have been doing. With my own experiences outside this comp. I've come to the conclusion that the lack of tools to simply select with or with out matchmaking is the problem and not people's behavior. This stuff will still happen outside a competition. Competition just makes it prevalent. I'll take back everything I said. Still I feel for you OP about what had happened to you. I wish that on no one! Unless they are modding the actual game itself, and up to no good.

LOL you tried the run the game on an unsupported OS with what is basically a Windows emulator to run software NOT intended for Linux and you're surprised you got banned? Then you threaten to take it to small claims court? LMAO, yeah good luck. You very clearly and knowing tried to do something that isn't supported or intended by the programmers of this game, you don't have a leg to stand on in court.

        • HA TAKE IT TO COURT?!?!?, you have to be joking, please tell me you are joking. Taking a big company to court because of your account ban due to you running the game on an operating system that is not supported.

        • Bans are permanent and Bungie does not have a dispute system. You are banned for good on that account.

So modifying the game to run on a system it's not meant to with your main account? Lol if you were testing it why not grab one of the free accounts they are handing out.... Edit: I'll keep reiterating what I say above. If you plan on testing with a game format that isn't supported originally don't most testers for programming use burner accounts?

Its sucks yes, people have been getting banned for various reasons including running non-supported software even if it doesnt interfere with destiny, if its on your system you can be account banned. In saying that I'm unsure if Linux or Wine is supported......I highly doubt it probably why the ban has occured, or if you do have a debugger or code manipulating software (even if its not effecting Destiny at all) on that system and their scan picks it up you can and likely will be banned.

          • Doubt you would try to take anyone to court. Even if you did over this you would totally lose.

How did you run it on Linux when the game is only made to run on Windows? It sounds like you may have either had unsupported software to make it run or you modified something to make it run. If either is true, you violated the terms.
Player Behavior that can lead to Account Bans or Restrictions Bungie regards some behavior to be in breach of the license agreement that governs Destiny, and therefore potentially subject to access restrictions or bans. This behavior includes, but is not limited to: Connecting to the Destiny game service with any of the following: Modified game software Modified game assets Modified hardware Modified console firmware Using an external program to modify the operation of the Destiny game software, such as: Trainers, mods, cheats, aimbots, or autofire. User mode or kernel debuggers Graphics hacks Sending malicious network traffic to Destiny servers or other Destiny players Using an external program or device to automate gameplay or circumvent idle detection. Modification or interruption of Destiny network traffic with intent to disrupt the experience of other players or to gain an advantage in the game. Intentionally deriving gameplay benefit from another user’s behavior in the above categories. Unauthorized access to Destiny software or downloadable content (game piracy). Impersonating a Bungie, Microsoft, Sony, Blizzard, or Activision employee. Online behaviors disruptive to the experiences of others, such as: Hate speech, griefing, or message spamming Habitual unsportsmanlike conduct Habitual quitting or idle behavior in matchmade activities Intentionally deleting another player’s items or characters by logging in with their account credentials Habitually quitting from a Competitive Crucible match will result in a 30-minute Crucible restriction
what is interesting is, there was a thread started a week ago showing the thread trail made by those who were trying to modify it to work with wine, including some of the DLL files that had to be modified in order to do so. Unfortunately, running the game on a system that it was not meant to be ran on causes issues like this. There are reasons devs make their game for their selected OS, they engineer all aspects to work on that system. Running it on linux or mac or a commodore 64 can prevent parts of the program from operating correctly. For example if the anti cheat is built on checking processes in windows, that piece isnt going to work very well on linux, so the system is going to see that as an attack as you are preventing it from doing its job. Good luck going to court over it, you knowingly installed the game against the requirements.
