Competitive feels impossible to rank up...

Hey fellow Guardians, I'm at a bit of a loss here. I've started playing Competitive for the Luna's Howl (and Redrix) quest lines. For the most part, it went quite well. It just took a while. I thought "Hey, this isn't too bad, with any luck I might even do the entire quest in a day!" but then I found out about the final quest step. Reach the Fabled Glory rank in Competitive Crucible. Simple, right? Surely, with a 59%* winrate, it's just a matter of time? Boy, was I wrong. Every progress I make, I eventually hit a losing streak, and all of it gets lost again. I think I've gotten up to about 1.4K Glory points and am currently back and sitting at 1.25K. 150 points lost, and this isn't the first time today this happened, I think this is like the 5th losing streak today. No matter how good I seem to play, what weapons I equip or how I play (aggressive / defensive), at some point in climbing the Glory point ranks, I face a wave of enemies who are either: a) Obviously better than me and my teammates, this is usually clear from the first 10 kills or first round. b) Run weapons that seem physically impossible to beat unless you use the same. Talking Trust, Telesto, Luna's Howl, and shotties mainly. c) Both of the above (<- THIS IS HELL) No matter what I try though, it just seems impossible to get past these. Regardless of what I try, it appears doomed while I watch my rank points creep back down again to about 1.2K, only to do it all over again. I'm not amazing, but I'm not half bad either, I suppose. My KD is 1.22, my KDA is 1.43, and my KA/d is 1.64. Does anyone else have a similar experience? What in the world am I doing wrong? I'm solo-Q, since all my friends moved on to other games like RDR2, BO4, etc. and looking on the LFG, nobody wants to play with a 1.22 - 1.64 KD - KA/d. For the record, I play on PS4. Am I just doomed in this cycle of winning and losing streaks? Help. :(

    • Top player on losing side shouldn’t lose or gain points in comp! That would be fair to the one player actually trying!

    • If it makes you feel any better, I am absolute garbage at competitive and I am currently stuck in the Brave rank going backwards and forwards (mainly backwards) and I don't think I will ever get past it. I only have a 37-57 win/loss and a 39% win ratio so you are way in front of me. I am currently on the solar kills part of the Luna quest but even if I do all the kill requirements it will be pointless if I don't rank up.

    • The issue is that no matter how good you play, it feels like everything depends on your matchmade teammates. I have stats similar to yours and has been a pain to rank up. Have to admit though. Comp made me a better player because i had to act faster, decide faster, play smarter and learn to back out from a fight to stay alive rather than trade. I dont know if i ever make it to fabled but will keep trying. Add me if you want. I cant carry but can promise to use a brain

        • Hey, just do what I did. Avoid any ques that goes up by 3 or more and then you'll most likely be matched with noobs that don't know what they're doing. That's what I did and it was painful but at least I wasn't getting kicked to the curb by 4 stacks.

          • I thought the exact same thing. My clan has decent but not amazing players and one of us has luna already but the rest of us were struggling as a team after about 1500 points. So we went off solo and joined teams on lfg with better players. In my experience I was on 1600 points and joined a team on this app's lfg and we dominated and now I'm on 2054 points waiting until Tuesday for those free points to push me over. This implies I got carried but I was actually always 2nd or 3rd in the team with similar scores to the "good" players. The difference was they had much better understanding of how to win. I just followed their instructions of when to push etc and it helped my game massively. You will get there you just need to try a few lfg posts until you find a team you can gel with.

            • Took me a week to solo it. Don’t give up you can do it. Just don’t push it, like if you lose 2-3 games on the bounce stop playing competitive and do something else. I’m ok at crucible but I have to admit I did find it hard at times and was the worse player on my team quite a few times. But when that happens you just have to play smart and be the best worst player of the match. If that makes any sense? Don’t give away easy kills and support your teammates.

            • I feel you man. I’ve been sitting at 1500-1600 for the last 3 days. I can’t seem to go any higher and it’s pissing me off. Most of it are my team mates going below .50 and playing stupid while we go up against a 4 stack where 3 of them already have the damn gun. Great matchmaking bungie..... I solo que a lot I always have but I’m gonna look into this lfg shit. It’s gotta be better than randoms with their thumbs up eachothers asses.

If you lose 2 twice in terrible ways know it's time to stop its marathon so know it will take some time won't happen over night.

              • I’ve seen a few people who managed to get it solo with K/D’s around 0.9 with only a 45-50% win rate. Your stats are higher so if you continue your make it eventually. Anyway if you start a losing streak (2+) then take a break and try again latter, don’t keep playing as your more then likely playing worse then normal at this point. Note what times you seem to win most of your matches, time of day actually means alot and can help tremendously if you mind that sweet spot. I know I know your solo queue but honestly the best advice I can give you is just find some others players with a KD similar to yours and go from there. I found that most loses come from terrible teammates and parting up nullifies most of those issues. No more players whose K/D’s are in the low 0.4’s No more players that leave within a minute No more players that lower then level 30 wearing full blue or greens No mics are needed either as if your solo queue you weren’t communicating anyway

                • that's the purpose of the glory system, it's not meant to be like valor where you climb no matter how good you are. You're supposed to find the rank for you and stay there until you get better. As a solo q-er I have not had this experience, I've been steadily climbing.

                  • Right, I went 12 games in a row (I counted) a few weeks ago where it was all randoms vs. a 4 stack. We won a few of them but seriously? Matchmaking is a joke.

                  • You just got to go on bigger win streaks than losing streaks. I just achieved the Luna last night, and it took me going on a 6-7 winning streak, losing one, then another long win streak. Some of it is luck on who you get matched with and up against. I will say last night I was playing the best I had in a while with a 3+ KDA just about every game. I also had my buddy do it with me so we were running duos.. at least until we got matched with another duo and we decided to 4 stack because we dominated. So again part luck, part popping off. For a load out I suggest bygones, telesto, and some sort of grenade launcher. It seemed to be able to handle the Luna wielders.

                    • Your K/D is better than mine and there have people with negative K/D's who have gotten it. Unfortunately a lot of people who play solo have deflated K/Ds simply because of all the quitting and insane matchmaking. But with that you should be able to do it. It won't happen in a day for anyone who plays solo though. The game has to use you to give other people wins (and vice versa) so you kind of have to "pay your dues" before it will let you rise. The other bad thing is that comp has a lot of variables weapon and ability wise that make it not very competitive so there are matches where you are just going to lose based on the fact that people can mod their supers and have 3 people on the team spraying telesto all over the place. Don't let those matches even matter to you. For me, I went in knowing that I was going to lose a lot of Countdown, just make sure you perform well in every match. The game seems to somehow eventually reward solos when they can do the best on their team repeatedly. Around 1400 was where the competition got a lot tougher and more coordinated for me. If you aren't using the comp meta weapons you might want to give them a try. Telesto, Nova Warp and one of the more ridiculous shotguns can literally win you matches. That's not what I used but I lost to so many people who obviously weren't very good just because they used some combination of these weapons and abilities.

                    • I feel your pain. I cruised to 1700 pretty easy. That’s where the wall is. Then I dropped all the way down to 1400. It’s frustrating. Since I’ve started Luna I’ve gained 87 Fight Me medals which means you did more damage the all players on both teams, yet, I’m always on the losing team. My KD used to be respectable but comp has killed it (1.1 KD/1.6KDA) which means LFG teams won’t take you. The worst part is for the sake of “balance” the system seems to constantly put me with people who obviously lack the same skill as me (I’m 1900 and my teammates are all under 1000 while we face enemy +2000). I used to think it was flattering but now I think Bungie is personally punishing me for being a decent player. I’m going to try again today though....

                        • From my experience to my recently gotten luna, these are the trends/mindset I have learned. 1) Usually doesn’t matter what game mode it is, it comes down to map control, or controlling the heavy. Seriously, be a pain in the butt for the enemy team 2) Expect the enemy team is going to use “meta” weapons or supers. These are your Trusts, Bygones, Shotguns, Telestos, Nova Warps, and Blade Barrages. Don’t have a holier than thou mindset. If you see meta weapons, use them too if you have to, the better player will usually triumph if using the same weapon. Telesto (the besto) got me through a lot. Embrace the Bullsh- Matador... 3) When I say “git gud” I don’t mean it as an elitist. I see it as how can I be a better player from that match OR even more specific, how to be a better TEAM player. Got a good matched team during solo queue? Offer to team up after the match! Help a fellow guardian out! A well-rounded, communicating team will always be better than a solo “god” with a bunch of thumbless Stevie Wonders. Don’t blame your team for a loss, don’t blame yourself. See it as an opportunity to improve and be a better team player. 4) Most important! Have a positive mindset! This is very achievable and you can do it. If you have a win-streak, ride it! If you lose and detect a downwards pattern, give yourself a break. Negativity can bog everyone down and make things worse. With the right mindset (and a little luck!) You’ll succeed. Take every match as a journey to become a better player, you’ll have more fun too.

                        • Only Bungie would be stupid enough to create a pvp system that rewards you for winning and punishes you for losing, creates a quest that requires you to win waaay more than you lose... and pairs it with a matchmaking system that they admit is designed to keep the win/loss ratio at 50/50 so players don't win too many times, or lost too many times, and quit playing.
