I've been thinking about the exotic limit and it's always made me question it. Why only one piece of armor and weapon? Games lime Diablo with the same kind of gear scaling has no limit on the number of exotics you can use.
Because of this you have folks regardless of the number of exotics there are that will gravitate to a meta exotic in order to be efficient for the encounters they are in.
Take the Malfeasance (or any primary exotic for that matter) which received a buff recently. I tried it and liked it in gambit and it works good on invaders too. The only thing is I gave up major DPS on the boss by losing my sleeper. It's a shame to do a quest line for a beautiful gun like that which I find fun to use as well to have to vault it because it's when it comes down to boss DPS there's a better exotic.
Same with armor. Upon inspection I see a very select few armor pieces being used. Some are just more efficient than most on their own but the rest seem like they would have way more synergy with other exotics.
Take the Ashen wakes for starters. I could not see using these gauntlets over another exotic like my Hollowfire Heart. Fusion Grenades as weak as they are for my Solar Titan are definitely not my goto when Thermite are much more benifical. But if I could pair the Ashen Wake with the Hollowfire Heart I could start to make a unique build worth using by getting those grenades back.
This example starts to show that some actual builds can be made through exotics. especially with the limiting preset skill trees we are left with for our subclasses. It also allows for some creativity using "more" exotics instead of always shelving the many lesser impactful ones to use the few meta exotics there are.
Tl;dr restricting the number of exotics that can be used at once restricts the effective builds that can be made. It also makes a lot of exotics gather dust in favor of the few that are most effective.

1 ReplyI'd like to see them open this up in pve or introduce set pieces that give several exotic esque bonuses the more you equip. PvP players will always complain about this idea though. My solution is allow multiple Exotics in pve and one specific game mode of PvP.

1 ReplyYou know crucibabies and PvPussies would whine about it and cry nerf though if this was allowed in PvP. If bungie were smart though, making this available in PvE would be awesome

2 RepliesImagine a Titan with one eyed mask, ACD feedback, armantarium, lion rampet, Chaperone, Graviton lance and sleeper could do? Yeah the thought of that scares me

3 Repliesit would break the game a titan with one eyed mask, synthoceps/wormgod, heart of inmost light and dunemarchers/anteus wards would be beyond bullshit
