9 out of 10 players complaining on these forums about the Fighting Lion nerf never used it before they got the catalyst for it and also couldn't tell me the difference in damage pre- and post-update. Do we even know if it was for pve, pvp, or both?
Because as far as its performance in pve, it's been a helluva lot of fun and very effective. It's knocking out clusters of enemies with a single shot, killing shielded red bars with one shot, and busting shields on majors as it's supposed to do. Single nade launchers are meant to be used in tandem with your other weapons for clean up. If you aren't swapping between Fighting Lion and your Kinetic or Power weapon then you're doing it wrong.
Also, the damage nerf to be inline with other single nade launchers isn't unreasonable. Fighting Lion is still dealing their level of damage as a Primary ammo weapon. So you get to use it much more than you would any other single nade launcher. Name any other Special weapon that has this advantage.
And if you don't like it, then don't use it. Simple as.

3 RepliesBut why nerf it? It wasn't overused. No one complained about it. It wasn't claiming an excessive share of player attention. The normal cause for a nerf is things like that.

1 ReplyEdited by mithraslion: 10/19/2018 3:59:47 PMIt was my favorite main weapon by far and I created a complete loadout based on fighting lion. And believe me, it is a time consuming process. It was a high skill gap weapon and only good in right hands with lot of practice in pve. And they nerfed it. Just like that. No one even complaining about the gun but, even that, they kill our fun with no reason. This is complete bs. I don't even open the game since this ridiculous fl nerf and I'm a daily player. Well. This is really so much bs for a single game. If you want to stop something, stop the apes running around with shotguns and sleeper simulant. Why you are punishing good players with creative loadouts? This is insane

2 RepliesEmm nope, i used it durong 3 strikes that had VOID burn, blackout and grenadier. The one thing you can kill on single impact are lesser minions, gun acolytes and above are beyond 1 shot from the lion, the nerf is real.

1 ReplyIt’s damage was reduced by 25-30%

Yup ran the master work version in blindwell and I thought it did real good One shot 2 adds at a time at a distance Never ran out of ammo Pleasantly surprised

1 ReplyYou must be new here. Here we cry first and discover later. It's MUCH easier that way.

Ok I'll explain why were mad n why it's a bad nerf. Firstly it's fine in strikes and low level stuff and unchanged in pvp. However in raids and nightfalls and Gambit, it's nerf means extra grenades to take down enemies. Before u could hit a small group of enemies killing the red bars then finish the yellow bar reloading ur lion. 2nd it didn't have a high dps, is single shot, was similar in power to other launchers but they nerfed other tube launchers into non existence bc of status effect grenades. Lion has no status effect and no one uses other tubes in pve bc they don't do enough splash damage to make up for being single shot. Thirdly no one complained n maybe one percent of people even used the lion bc it is competing with sleeper, whisper, telesto n all other exotics as well as fusion rifles, ep shotty, shotties, snipers. It prolly needed a buff honestly but was good at add clearing so u could use different weapon combos n still be viable. All tube launchers should have been buffed to lions level not it nerfed. Finally it takes weeks of practice to get good with that gun so it being nerfed ruins builds and playstyles that were enjoyable.

Still fun to use.

Used it earlier to clear out lost sectors in dreaming city, seemed fine.
-
I used it before. It definitely does less damage in pve now

The issue is breach grenade launchers sûck rn in general. There's only 6 non fighting lion breach grenade launchers. 3 aren't even legendary, 2 are from base game and curse, and only one is in forsaken(the kinetic nightfall exclusive one). Instead of spending time bring fighting lion down to reach their damage Bungie could have added more of them to the pool or boosted their damage up so there was a legitimate reason to run them over anything else

Everyone who disagrees with me is a whiner. I love nerfs.

the damage was also untouched in pvp. It still has 1-shot potential if you direct hit someone. Gun is still great. You're exactly right everyone complaining about it have never even picked it up. They just have to complain about something.

3 RepliesI completely agree with you on this issue, I've used fighting lion ever since I got it in curse of osiris, and I'm perfectly ok with the nerf on this gun, I can still get consistent one taps with my hand cannon after damaging a player with fighting lion and I've noticed less weird moments where I one hit someone at full health with fighting lion for no reason which I didn't like happening cause it didn't feel fair, I also believe that this nerf was also because of the catalyst they introduced with fighting lion because with the better reload speed, the old damage could be dangerous and could've turned this gun into a potential spam weapon in the crucible (just a theory, haven't completed the catalyst myself so I don't know about the spam weapon part). I also like the perk the catalyst gives you, giving you bonus handling and accuracy for your kinetic and power weapons for a short time after damaging someone with fighting lion, it works greatly with the fighting lion's exotic perk, my only concern is with the bonus reload speed portion, which doesn't work well with the exotic perk but is still ok in my opinion.

Pve can still one shot any non major enemy, 2 to 3 at most for any non boss, quick refill when procking perks, guaranteed ammo, runs on primary. Thing is still a monster
-
The nerf was strictly PVE.
-
I've been using it almost exclusively for about a month. I'm no good with it in PvP but in PvE no other non-power weapon can compare. What other weapon besides a rocket launcher can take out 5 enemies at a time? It still does. A properly executed launch into a crowd of adds kills most if not all of them. All I can figure is that Bungie considered it to be too powerful for a non-heavy weapon with the catalyst implemented. It was meant for red bars and majors. The un-nerfed FL dps on bosses would have been glorious. Fire all of your heavy then switch to the FL on Riven... big damage.
-
2 Repliesbut now that its a primary, isn't it effected by the the nerf to primaries that reduced body shot damage? i guess its okay since primary ammo drops more than energy ammo.
-
Hard to argue with that. I used it effectively after getting the catalyst and it's still good for me too...
