Couldn't agree more, I was always a Scout rifle main and enjoyed the early days of Vision of Confluence and later a very nice Saterienne Rapier (firefly and explosive rounds) and of course a big fan of the Mida. But now they are all meh. They should rule at long range and only be beaten by snipers. Hand cannons should be short range IMHO about twice the range of a shotty which put them in a unique niche and open up spaces for the other weapon types. Range should decrease damage on most weapons however sniper and scouts should increase at range because that is their role. At the moment a bow does all the things a scout should be doing and better in the current sandbox

  • They already have that role, it's called a side arm. Hand cannons are fine as they are, and should be left alone; a little less fall off might be welcome. Scouts are simply not in the same state as D1 right now, and I'm not sure why. They were excellent weapons, especially in PvE, and fulfilled the ranging role very well. For some reason, they have always felt like they shot pin pong balls in D2.

  • Fair play on the sidearm I forgot that as I am not a fan. Still think that hand cannons are too effective at range. My heart keeps saying that a pistol does out shoot a rifle at range

  • Agree Hand cannons are in every other game are like hand held shot guns.. Yet Destiny gives them longer ranges and doesn’t gimp their damage like they should.. Hand cannons are far too easy mode in this game it’s hard to not use them.. Want my scout rifles back..

  • The trade is that hand cannons lose the ability to reliably hit a crit very rapidly as the range is exceeded. Beyond 40 meters, it's essentially all luck barring a few masterworked exotics. Scouts maintain this well over twice the distance. Hand cannons do more damage in the intended ranges, but those ranges rapidly expire. The risk is in getting in a lot closer to the fight, the reward is higher damage and faster kill times. Having only a hand cannon necessitates that your secondary be long range, which also cuts into what you can carry in PvE.
