So I know that Sledgehammer was the first non Treyarch developer to develop zombies and ever since then zombies has been included in every single cod. However if it’s not treyarch, it feels corporatized, half assed, and more of a cash grab than anything else. It seems like Treyarch is the only real genuine zombies dev.
The question here is why did these other developers start making zombie modes as well? I was talking to my buddies and we were talking about this and we were all lost with some of us thinking that Activision was making these devs make zombies for more money and the rest thought it was just the devs wanting to try their hand. Anyone know which one it is?

3 RepliesThe better question is why does Activision insist on the 3 studios making different games. Why not have them all work on a single game with periodic content updates, rather than annualized games. Seriously, why waste resources remaking what another studio just did (physics, weapons, etc) a few months ago? Just have them all work on the same game engine and release different parts: Zombies- Treyarch Campaign- Sledgehammer Battle Royal/MP- Infinity Ward Each studio would be able to lend assets/code to the others, and thus speed up the amount of content that could be generated, while still allowing them to work on their own unique stuff. On top of that, content could be released more periodically, rather than waiting for a yearly release. Say what you will about Destiny 2, but you can't deny that Bungie, Vicarious Visions and High Moon have proven that the formula works. The amount of content that is being generated is markedly improved from the content droughts of D1.

Because Activision tells them to. That's why.

Treyarch now does Battle Royale and abandoned campaign because BO3 campaign made no sence

1 ReplyThey should bring back extinction; I had loads of fun with that mode
-
I wish Infinity Ward would bring extinction back. That was a really fun game mode.

2 RepliesWhy do infinity ward and sledge hammer still make games the last 2 games were horrible
some of us thinking that Activision was making these devs make zombies for more money
The devs get their marching orders from Activision. If Activision wanted to outright sell guns via mico-transaction loot boxes, the devs would put that in the game. I know that's a crazy scenario. Let's hope it never happens to the Call of Duty series.

Because the people who play zombies religiously make the game mode nearly required.

1 ReplyI never liked COD zombies from any of the devs really, my favorite was extinction from ghosts.

2 RepliesThey want to make the cash grab that is zombies. I’ll always buy a treyarch game that includes zombies for the very reason it is fun and great and they have me hooked since WAW. The other developers are trying to gain the same cult following, but since the offer nothing good in story or different in game play it comes off as a bad rip off and if anything pushes people away. I would personally love a treyarch zombies only game. No multiplayer, just zombies content only.

Because they're all part of the CoD machine. Frankly, the series needs some homogenization with its titles so that they all have game modes like Zombies and the immense emblem customization of BLOPs. Treyarch does a lot of things right in its take on CoD, things that only make sense to be kept in every title.

Cod ghost, had extinction, and for me personally was better than zombies, just wish someone would do something similar.

I'd imagine consistency plays a part of it. It'd probably irk some people to get zombies one game but then not have them the next, and to have that be a trend for so long I could even see that annoying if I purchased mediocrity in the CoD franchise. Everything's a cash grab too, I'm not going to exclude treyarch just cause they happen to do it the best.
