When you complete an action in campaign you receive a set number of cr for each commendation involved. When those commendations reach silver the cr per action is removed. People know you receive less every time but this is why.
For instance, that cut scene method involves 2. One yields 150, the other 50. This is why it goes from 200 to 50 than 0.
Gruntpacolypse:To do this go to Matchmaking-Firefight-Score Attack- then proceed to Gruntpacolypse on the desired map, the map i use is Corvette but you can pick your poison.
Commendations: Varying between maps you might be able to get more but credits that are full proof on all maps for this method are:
Longshot- Kill with a precision weapon (DMR)
Numbers Game-multikills
Methodical- any type of spree
Dome Inspector-Headshots
Target Practice- Kill infantry-class enemies
*Trigger Happy- Kill with small arms
--------------------------------------------------------------
Notes: You should average between 1000-1200 between games with getting additional Cr for the commendations completed within the round. the games will average at around 10 minutes so after a while it does get boring but, this will be played for longterm so should be saved last since other methods go faster.*adding the pistol every so often adds up for trigger happy thanks to Maytch and if corvette isn't your style try checking this video out for a quick step by step on Holdout.

TacoHalo: Your kill is my kill at least with the AIs it is, a perfect collection of teamwork founded by no other than TacoHalo himself. Load up Long Night of Silence from mission start(yes the space level), no skulls, on normal. Now storm the beaches. Kill everything in your path and follow the shore till you hit the pier where a dropship will leave a nice wraith for you. Take out the gunner and jump in the turret to make the elite pop out of the drivers seat, after he gets out kill him too, this is to make sure that the wraith is for the most part damage free. Take the wraith back to the beach and boost around the rocks to go up to the facility and proceed to the sandbags and clear the area till you get the checkpoint and turn around facing the beach to get another checkpoint and whether or not you want one a marine will or should have already taken the position of the turret. Just let your AI buddy take out the covenant to get the following commendantions:
Leadership Element- Kill a leader-class enemy
Spec Ops- Kill a specialist-class enemy
War Machine-Kill with your vehicle
Cannon Fodder-Kill an infantry-class enemy
---------------------------------------------------------------
Notes: I hadn't even tried the method and when first told about it thought it was stupid and immediately dismissed it and others followed, but one brave soul tried it and with great satisfaction, according to Pixel Push3r this method averages out to 4 kills a covie and even with dying the method reloads you back to the checkpoint so it naturally becomes a safe easy ride that can be done for the times where you just need a break and sleep in between the tough stuff, for a better retelling go here.

Flawless Cowboy: otherwise known as the cutscene glitch or cutscene farming. I've only done it on Winter Contingency a couple of times but i can say this as a fact, difficulty between legendary and heroic does nothing, skulls do nothing.
The level has to be loaded from start. Play through the entire level, go to the room where you and Jorge will kill the zealot and then push the button to activate the cutscene. Almost 3-4 second after you push the button press start and click "save and quit". you get you Cr hen go back into the menu and resume game. as if god answered your prayers no playing just more Cr. as anyone would guess the affected commendation is:
Flawless Cowboy-complete a level on heroic or harder without dying
Demon-complete a level
---------------------------------------------------------------
Notes: To ONYX the commendation you need to do this 300 times, the Cr for the commendation goes up but, for level completion it gradually goes down. It will proceed from 200 to 50 and most likely will gradually get lower, its one that isn't worth doing for too long, it take about 30 second to do it (because of loading) so anyone could do this in a quick 3 hour sitting and proceed to something greater. To put your hearts at ease

ONI Sword Base: I'm pretty sure this is the method that started all the controversy of Cr Farming. Now to start this level off let's add some skulls. "1.Cowbell" and "2.Thunderstorm" along with any additional desired skull should be used for this particular method.
1.big explosions
2.promote the covenant troops to higher ranks
When the level starts run up the right ramp, don't fight the elite and run pass him and drop to the grassy ledge so you can proceed around the corner(don't stay on the ledge there is this light thing that gets in the way and the grunts just pretty much destroy you, but after that it's ok to get back on the ledge). run down into the "barricade" and pick up the target locator, if the check point came already no big deal but if it didn't then proceed to get it and back up against the slanted door, wait for the check point to finish then aim for the cluster of covenant troops to get a barrage(10 or more) of kills. don't bother doing it again because you'll activate another checkpoint just reload to the previous check point and repeat, over and over again till you ONYX the following commendations:
Splash Damage- Kill an enemy with a heavy weapon
Walking Tank- Earn a multikill
Super Soldier- Earn any type of spree
Leadership Element- Kill a leader-class enemy
Spec Ops- Kill a specialist-class enemy
---------------------------------------------------------------
Notes: Aside from getting the checkpoint right if that's what you care about this method goes in varying speeds, some commendations will be taken out incredibly fast while others will be much slower. Splash Damage will obviously be taken out first but others like Spec Ops and Leadership Element will feel like an eternity and you'll probably not bother with it. It's best to get this done and out of the way so you can proceed to actually having fun as it does get to feel slow.

Banshee: There are many places to kill the banshee or any other vehicular type covenant troop. I'll show you two that work as to my knowledge with the commendations being:
Right of Way-Destroy a vehicle
War Machine-Kill with your vehicle
1.Long Night Of Solace- Alpha Checkpoint, go to the cruiser and blow an engine to activate the checkpoint, after that go beneath the cruiser to find a nest of birds waiting to be taken out, revert the checkpoint. lather rinse repeat.
2.Pillar of Autumn-Raly Point Bravo the very last part where you take control of the big gun kill as many phantoms, spirits, and banshees. It's safe to assume if it flies you should kill it. kill as many things before the covenant cruiser shoots and revert to last checkpoint.
3.New Alexandria- just fly around and destroy, no checkpoints no limits just search and destroy the endless supply of banshee
--------------------------------------------------------------
Notes: Never tried this method yet but heard it's effective, for pillar of autumn i'm not sure if you'll get the war machine commendation but it seems like it'll go by pretty fast with Right of Way.

Nice Arm.A: On Winter Contingency run past everything to the jeep(get stickies) drive to where the spirit drops off a load of grunts (get out just before to activate the checkpoint), then get kills with one throw of the grenade and enjoy the benefits, revert to the last checkpoint and resume. This can also be done in Gruntpacolypse
Nice Arm.B: Pretty much any where you can find a grenade will help but along with Winter Contingency you can also perform this back at Oni Sword Base, but instead of using your target locator your using the mighty throw of a baseball play, although this probably won't take out the big elites you'll get the grunts in between or you can work at both at the same time.
Nice Arm-kill with a grenade
---------------------------------------------------------------

The flawless cowboy is easy to get, especialy with more people. First level (second mission) 15 minutes, legendary, no deaths, for all three of us. Quickest it can be done as their is like 3-4 minutes of helecopter riding, and takes like another 3-4 minutes in the jeep. Roughly 20 minutes solo. Plus once you know the game and have done it solo on legendary, some levels arn't that hard on heroic. another area for Vehicle kills and Killing Vehicles is the return to ONI mission, their is like 3 ghosts just after you get the tank, about 10-16 banshies at the two AA guns, another 3 ghosts, followed by 2 smaller versions of the wraith's, followed by a final one at the enterance. Giving a grand 19-25, might not be as fast as the POA place for killing enemy vehicles but is the best place i have found for Vehicle Vs Vehicle kills. Also APPARANTLY turrets are under vehicle's in forge, so they might count towards this as well, which would mean another 5 in this area. (will check later when i get back after doing today's challenges.) this also only takes like 20 minutes, save and quit and start the level again.
Posted by: EL1TE SUPR3MACY I'm still on edge about the Flawless Cowboy farming. Nobody has been banned for this yet, right?
As for right now, it isn't. Even if bungie does decide to make it a bannable offense, the people that have done it prior to that decision can't be legitimately banned because it was not against the rules when they did it.

I'm still on edge about the Flawless Cowboy farming. Nobody has been banned for this yet, right?
-
nice guide, OP. Might try a few of these later.
-
does the difficulty setting effect the cR at all? or is it just for the helmet?
-
I'm pretty sure they would ban people who do the cutscene exploit, surely farming in this method is frowned upon by them? Gruntapocalypse is fine because you still put in the effort you get out. But all you do is reload a checkpoint, however I do agree getting the flawless cowboy achievement legitimately would be way too hard, and not worth the time.
-
Nice thread, ive tried most except the vehicle based ones. Also, for the cutscene farming, you can quit at any point during the cutscene, so don't be afraid about misswing it.
-
weird. i assumed it retained the info from previous quit game. will try this now im not afraid to die on the way through!
-
You may want to edit out the Flawless Cowboy glitch. Posting exploits is bannable.
-
I guess the ONI technique could also be used to get grenade kills.
-
Posted by: SickTrash waaa!? i thought the aim was not to die??? or does it forget all your previous deaths when you reload the black screen!?
yeah it does, so u finish with 0 deaths n carter avy helmet =] (if on legendary)
Posted by: SHOKAG3
Posted by: Vasilii Zaytsev I want a Bungie employee to say if the cutscene glitch is cheating/bannable... because it seems like it would be, but the actual commendation is ridiculous and no one would ever get it legitimately...
i promise all methods i use are safe for practice, i wouldn't say to do it with the knowledge of it being faulting, there is confirmation on all my posted methods. I just don't have it
Posted by: SickTrash concerning the cutscene glitch, do you still have to kill the last few people protecting the switch everytime? do you save then quit everytime? im confused
every time you reload it. it shows a black loading screen and then u just get credits, no work no struggle.
Maybe that's just because you haven't been caught yet, haha

Good Thread bro i was wondering how CR farmng worked. Warrent officer ranks go up brutaly slow
Posted by: SickTrash oh! im sure in a youtube vid i watched the guy killed them over and over. so i do the whole level without dying (what if i die? can i revert to last save or start whole level again!?) and then get to end, activate swich, quickly save and quit. then resume over and over?
death has no effect on the method
Posted by: Zwolf_wolf best part is, I am still the same rank as the op who farmed his rank.
i don't get to play that much but i've messed around with the methods to see what works and what doesn't

Good Post. I usually do a bunch of gruntpocalypse when i'm getting close to a new rank. Just cant help myself when a matchmaking game gives 600 while a game of gruntpocalypse gives 4 times that in efficiency.

lol good job =]
Posted by: RABBIT 00 How about for the "Nice Arm" commendation: 1.) Get a checkpoint right before a ship drop tons of Grunts 2.) Throw a grenade, kills all grunts 3.) Reload checkpoint 4.) Repeat!
do u have any specific level for this or do u just mean this as a generality

best part is, I am still the same rank as the op who farmed his rank.
