When you complete an action in campaign you receive a set number of cr for each commendation involved. When those commendations reach silver the cr per action is removed. People know you receive less every time but this is why.
For instance, that cut scene method involves 2. One yields 150, the other 50. This is why it goes from 200 to 50 than 0.
Gruntpacolypse:To do this go to Matchmaking-Firefight-Score Attack- then proceed to Gruntpacolypse on the desired map, the map i use is Corvette but you can pick your poison.
Commendations: Varying between maps you might be able to get more but credits that are full proof on all maps for this method are:
Longshot- Kill with a precision weapon (DMR)
Numbers Game-multikills
Methodical- any type of spree
Dome Inspector-Headshots
Target Practice- Kill infantry-class enemies
*Trigger Happy- Kill with small arms
--------------------------------------------------------------
Notes: You should average between 1000-1200 between games with getting additional Cr for the commendations completed within the round. the games will average at around 10 minutes so after a while it does get boring but, this will be played for longterm so should be saved last since other methods go faster.*adding the pistol every so often adds up for trigger happy thanks to Maytch and if corvette isn't your style try checking this video out for a quick step by step on Holdout.

TacoHalo: Your kill is my kill at least with the AIs it is, a perfect collection of teamwork founded by no other than TacoHalo himself. Load up Long Night of Silence from mission start(yes the space level), no skulls, on normal. Now storm the beaches. Kill everything in your path and follow the shore till you hit the pier where a dropship will leave a nice wraith for you. Take out the gunner and jump in the turret to make the elite pop out of the drivers seat, after he gets out kill him too, this is to make sure that the wraith is for the most part damage free. Take the wraith back to the beach and boost around the rocks to go up to the facility and proceed to the sandbags and clear the area till you get the checkpoint and turn around facing the beach to get another checkpoint and whether or not you want one a marine will or should have already taken the position of the turret. Just let your AI buddy take out the covenant to get the following commendantions:
Leadership Element- Kill a leader-class enemy
Spec Ops- Kill a specialist-class enemy
War Machine-Kill with your vehicle
Cannon Fodder-Kill an infantry-class enemy
---------------------------------------------------------------
Notes: I hadn't even tried the method and when first told about it thought it was stupid and immediately dismissed it and others followed, but one brave soul tried it and with great satisfaction, according to Pixel Push3r this method averages out to 4 kills a covie and even with dying the method reloads you back to the checkpoint so it naturally becomes a safe easy ride that can be done for the times where you just need a break and sleep in between the tough stuff, for a better retelling go here.

Flawless Cowboy: otherwise known as the cutscene glitch or cutscene farming. I've only done it on Winter Contingency a couple of times but i can say this as a fact, difficulty between legendary and heroic does nothing, skulls do nothing.
The level has to be loaded from start. Play through the entire level, go to the room where you and Jorge will kill the zealot and then push the button to activate the cutscene. Almost 3-4 second after you push the button press start and click "save and quit". you get you Cr hen go back into the menu and resume game. as if god answered your prayers no playing just more Cr. as anyone would guess the affected commendation is:
Flawless Cowboy-complete a level on heroic or harder without dying
Demon-complete a level
---------------------------------------------------------------
Notes: To ONYX the commendation you need to do this 300 times, the Cr for the commendation goes up but, for level completion it gradually goes down. It will proceed from 200 to 50 and most likely will gradually get lower, its one that isn't worth doing for too long, it take about 30 second to do it (because of loading) so anyone could do this in a quick 3 hour sitting and proceed to something greater. To put your hearts at ease

ONI Sword Base: I'm pretty sure this is the method that started all the controversy of Cr Farming. Now to start this level off let's add some skulls. "1.Cowbell" and "2.Thunderstorm" along with any additional desired skull should be used for this particular method.
1.big explosions
2.promote the covenant troops to higher ranks
When the level starts run up the right ramp, don't fight the elite and run pass him and drop to the grassy ledge so you can proceed around the corner(don't stay on the ledge there is this light thing that gets in the way and the grunts just pretty much destroy you, but after that it's ok to get back on the ledge). run down into the "barricade" and pick up the target locator, if the check point came already no big deal but if it didn't then proceed to get it and back up against the slanted door, wait for the check point to finish then aim for the cluster of covenant troops to get a barrage(10 or more) of kills. don't bother doing it again because you'll activate another checkpoint just reload to the previous check point and repeat, over and over again till you ONYX the following commendations:
Splash Damage- Kill an enemy with a heavy weapon
Walking Tank- Earn a multikill
Super Soldier- Earn any type of spree
Leadership Element- Kill a leader-class enemy
Spec Ops- Kill a specialist-class enemy
---------------------------------------------------------------
Notes: Aside from getting the checkpoint right if that's what you care about this method goes in varying speeds, some commendations will be taken out incredibly fast while others will be much slower. Splash Damage will obviously be taken out first but others like Spec Ops and Leadership Element will feel like an eternity and you'll probably not bother with it. It's best to get this done and out of the way so you can proceed to actually having fun as it does get to feel slow.

Banshee: There are many places to kill the banshee or any other vehicular type covenant troop. I'll show you two that work as to my knowledge with the commendations being:
Right of Way-Destroy a vehicle
War Machine-Kill with your vehicle
1.Long Night Of Solace- Alpha Checkpoint, go to the cruiser and blow an engine to activate the checkpoint, after that go beneath the cruiser to find a nest of birds waiting to be taken out, revert the checkpoint. lather rinse repeat.
2.Pillar of Autumn-Raly Point Bravo the very last part where you take control of the big gun kill as many phantoms, spirits, and banshees. It's safe to assume if it flies you should kill it. kill as many things before the covenant cruiser shoots and revert to last checkpoint.
3.New Alexandria- just fly around and destroy, no checkpoints no limits just search and destroy the endless supply of banshee
--------------------------------------------------------------
Notes: Never tried this method yet but heard it's effective, for pillar of autumn i'm not sure if you'll get the war machine commendation but it seems like it'll go by pretty fast with Right of Way.

Nice Arm.A: On Winter Contingency run past everything to the jeep(get stickies) drive to where the spirit drops off a load of grunts (get out just before to activate the checkpoint), then get kills with one throw of the grenade and enjoy the benefits, revert to the last checkpoint and resume. This can also be done in Gruntpacolypse
Nice Arm.B: Pretty much any where you can find a grenade will help but along with Winter Contingency you can also perform this back at Oni Sword Base, but instead of using your target locator your using the mighty throw of a baseball play, although this probably won't take out the big elites you'll get the grunts in between or you can work at both at the same time.
Nice Arm-kill with a grenade
---------------------------------------------------------------
Notes: credit for this goes to RABBIT 00 and Maytch,.

I have a question, none of these campaign ones are giving me anything but the actual commendation bonus. For example, I tried the one on the beach with the wraith tank all night, killed a good number of enemies and only got the commendation bonus for getting war machine to gold, that's like 2k credits, what the heck? Same with oni, I go in, do it a couple times and I'm only getting bonuses from shooting people, grenading people and the occasional commendation rank up. What gives?
-
Offline gives me 80 credits for a round of score attack. Also the offline credit limit is very very low. Maybe around 1000-2000 is the limit. Best way to is to play glacier on score attack. As soon as the game starts look to your left there should be a halway that leads deeper into the building you start in. Go down it untill you are in a room with computers in the walls. Stand on the console with the 2 screen on wall mounts. Now wait till the game is over and repeat. You have to do this pretty fast so the grunts don't follow you. So use sprint. (for some reason every time I walked to the room they would follow.) This is very slow but is the only way to get alot of credits while offline. But you will reach your daily limit very fast for offline play. [Edited on 09.30.2010 2:14 AM PDT]

Also I can name about 3 or 4 more methods, that aren't as legit as these, and frankly some can get you banned. But others not so much... Some that rack up 20k cR+ / 5 min :) but there's still the daily cap of 60k.

Great job on the tips. There were some in there that even I didn't know. -cheers

best tactic ever:play for fun, not for pixels.

Right after you drop Jorge off in space, when the Corvette shows up fly under the ship and machine gun the banshess as they are flying out the bottom. Killionaire, revert to last checkpoint.

Thanks for this thread, I've been able to get some credits that would normally take forever. I have no problem with farming, I don't do it for gaining rank (except that some items require a certain rank). I just want to pimp my Spartan, and farming seems like the fastest way to do it. But, do you think the first patch will nerf some of the exploits?
-
how do u reset commendation
-
I been doing the Gruntpocalypse one. Honestly? I do for the fun almost as much as the credits. I love chaining together dozens of headshots at a time. Nice way to kill time waiting for them to start the matchmaking updates. And credits, yeah, they make the occasionally frustrating map worthwhile, something matchmaking hasn't quite managed to do yet.
Posted by: ChrispyLoco1
Posted by: SinisterThougts Nice Thread. I for one have been playing the occasional Gruntpocalypse to help get me through Warrant Officer Grade 3 (I want Jorge's Chest sooo bad) only 4k more to go!
I saved for that chest piece too! until my mate pointed out it makes your spartan look like he's sporting a pair of DD breasts. havent worn it since. :(.
lol, yea I thought that for a while, but I added some bulkier shoulders and that second wrist attachment (the one b4 the screen) and viola, now I just look HUGE all over. Very fitting for my favorite ability Armor Lock.
-
So where exactly do you press save when Jorge locks the door? Or when you get up?
-
About the Air strike farming, my freind found it to be easier to try to get the check point right before the shot is fired because you dont have to aim and fire any more just say revert to last save over and over (its like 5 seconds a reset) but its hard to get the checkpoint to go on in time.
Posted by: oVeRdozZzed boosters = noobs.
I see it more as being impatient to wait for the credits to drop into my lap through playing. My rank was legit until grade 2 lt col, then, because everyone was accusing me of boosting and having no life (I'm out of work from an injury) I figured, heck, I got 10k more point to go, might as well take out some commendations, get the rank up, and farm some credits to see if I can get pestilence before too many other people do... People are showing up with the hearts now btw, it's pretty sweet.
Posted by: ChrispyLoco1 it's great when you see a group of warrant officers or less hand a group of sargents+'s asses to them, makes matchmaking less predictable from the "oop, that guys a major, we're all screwed" of halo 3 :P mind you, I guess it WOULD make sence for your rank to actually portray your skill. maybe they'l make some other system. they're still tweaking everything at the moment anyway, for all we boosters know the banhammer may soon come smashing by.
They need to throw your overall rating into the pregame lobby so you can see what you're up against in these cases... And you can probably find hackers pretty easily too because they'll have a 2500 rating so you can quit the match before you destroy your KD.

My number one issue is the lack of multi kills, on Corvette, while flanked every other game or so, the grunts line up much easier and triple and overkills and others are very very common, whereas they don't happen much with this technique. Also, the game took ten minutes, where my gruntpocalypse games average 7 minutes with probably more cR because of the multi kills.
