JUMPING PUZZLES TOTALLY RUIN THIS OTHERWISE FUN GAME

How fun do you think it is to spend 10, 20, 30, attemps, 10, 20, 30, 45 minutes at jumping and failing? The ENTIRE game grinds to a 100% end, jump after jump after jump after jump and then just for fun it sends you back to the very beginning of all the jumps, over and over and over. If you happen to be good at jumping it's probably unclear why this is such a problem. But for some of us, it's an absolute assinine situation that the game is essentially over at this point...frustration takes over and you get nowhere. It's no longer a game, or fun, it's just a waste of time. There should be an option to just select jumping bypass, then at least you can continue the game. It feels like a waste of money to not be able to proceed in the game. Does anyone else agree?

  • Huh? I'm not saying jumping puzzles are fun or anything but how does one spend 40+ minutes on a single jumping puzzle?

  • Disabled player here. JUMPING SUCKS. I am, or at least was a warlock main. The class is interesting, fun and I greatly enjoy it. But the jumping mechanic is absolute complete garbage. Teleport is as accurate as a drunkard trying to pee on a penny. Long jump is stupid. Actually stupid. If I traveled up in 45 degree angle for the last 3 seconds why would I want to travel horizontally as I press double jump? Also there is absolutely no reason to have seven million jump areas in the game. I understand a few. I understand in a challenge or an exotic quest. Do not put million of them in main quests of the game! I have no way of finishing the quests without going through these annoying, dumb, often timed time wasting torture sections. I have done dark souls, getting over it and a whole bunch of other games just fine on keyboard and mouse. But even with 2 disability adaptive devices I can't pass this nonsense. I have to find a person to join my fire team, go trough it and force teleport me into the boss room while I scroll through my phone after falling down for the 65th time. It's not fun. It's insulting. If you can't figure out what else to put in the game at least make it more possible for disabled people. Add an option to skip or bypass it. I can do literally anything else in the game by using strategy, different weapons or outsmarting the enemy but this crap makes me turn off the game multiple times a week.

  • I have a rough time jumping in this game and dealing with dizzying heights and spinning rocks and no clear direction as to which way to go. A great many people have spatial disorientation - its the same as getting off a treadmill and experiencing it still moving as the eyes don't connect to the brain immediately. While I do get better with practice, the jumping puzzles are extremely tedious. However its not the jumping puzzles per se that ruin it or lazy gameplay on my part (which doesn't exist) - its more the mechanics - the timers(!?), the hidden jump point destinations and removal of the team mechanic that pulls a teammate through which make it seem like new and impossible problems that shouldn't be in this game. Your teammates can't help you in certain challenges now. Since when was that a philosophy; it seems that the opposite is the new philosophy as many things can't be easily solo'd anymore - so why make jumping an essentially solo endeavor? It's sad that some of the best guns are locked behind these elite challenges (which should be more accessible - just by removing the timer so we really CAN practice and git gud!). There has always been an attitude around this game that the best loot/weapons are not available to everyone and the comments in thread reveal just that. While I enjoy this game, no other game I've ever played has such a community of elitists and exclusionists and I don't like seeing that supported by the developer.

  • Really had it with this jumping nonsense. I'm stuck in the red War trying to jump off the ship to that higher ledge in the edz. The Warlock just doesn't have enough. Well BS on that. Add in the very dark scenes with HDR TV and it completes the nonsense for me. They will not get another Penny out of me in fact I'm ready just call it f****** quit. Fix this nonsense there's enough hard work to do in the game

I one-hundred-percent agree. Bungie has ben making too much use of jumping puzzles ever since they did the game Marathon in 1994. I LOVED that game, but around every corner was another jumping puzzle. In 2012, Borderland 2’s DLC “Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep ” made fun of it with one character complaining, “Jumping puzzle? REALLY?” That was in the summer of 2013. FIVE years ago. I’m not saying there should be NO jumping puzzles, but to me, its a sign of how little Bungie has progressed as a company. After almost two decades, for Bungie to still be dependent upon jumping puzzle feels like them padding out their games and that isn’t what any of us were expecting from this game. For myself, this entire Black Armory DLC has been a capitulation to lazy game design. Instead of giving us a story to go along with the game play, they’ve given us busy work. And instead of the cool game mechanics we got throughout Destiny 1, we now get lots and lots of jumping puzzles.

You hit the nail. They should also add an option to skip bosses and mobs in raids, I mean some people find them hard. So they should be able to just skip ahead to the loot..

    • They bring a challenge. Just takes practice! If my old hands can make jumps (felwinters peak, whisper, kings fall etc) then anyone can.

    • If they would ever fix the rubber ball effect you have when bumping a ledge, I'd be happy with that.

    • As others have pointed out, you're a Warlock "Kinderguardian." Basically, you picked the class that has the least intuitive jump ability. Hunters have a straight up double(or triple)-jump. You hit jump a second time, it does the same thing as jumping the first time. Very straightforward. Titans have a lift jump. When you hit jump a second time, you will be propelled upward, dependent on your downward momentum at the time. In other words, if you're falling quickly, your lift ability can't cancel it out and you'll still fall, but it will slow your decent. Warlocks have a glide jump, which means that your glide height and trajectory are dependent on your trajectory at the time you hit jump the second time. To get the most height out of a jump, hit jump twice, as quickly as possible, while standing still. Any movement of you character during the initial jump will rob you of some of your height. When falling as a Warlock, hitting jump will stop your decent and activate your glide, which will make you fall slowly, and your lateral movement is still dependent on your movement at the time of hitting jump the second time. If you're falling straight down, activating glide will greatly slow your decent, but you won't be able to move laterally very much, but if you run, jump off a ledge, and hit jump the second time just as you hit the peak of your initial jump, you'll have lots of forward momentum, and your glide will allow you to cross some pretty large distances. Looking at your play history, you're stuck on Titan, which a lot of new Warlock players have trouble with. I'd recommend just running around and practicing jumping on the Titan rigs as there's lots of good places for it. The two biggest things to remember, are you get the most height by standing still and hitting jump twice very quickly, and you get the most distance by running, jumping, and hitting jump again at the peak of your jump.

      • DOING ACTIVITIES TOTALLY RUINS THIS OTHERWISE FUN GAME. /s What do you expect, for you to be able to walk in a straight line for everything? We are guardians not people taking a sobriety test. No guardian I know wants to walk around like a lame-o. I want to parkour in style. You also have to be over exaggerating, if you get stuck on a jump for 30 tries and haven't changed what you're doing, you're in denial my guy. That's the fun of a jumping puzzle. I'd wager you did the same thing over and over again.

        • There is no jumping puzzle in this game that requires more than 5 minutes of effort. It's easy to race thru whisper after just a few tries. Hell, if your a titan, there are no jumping puzzles. And a warlock solar super can bypass most obstacles like the jumping puzzle ascendant challenge.

The jumping puzzles require a different skill than everything else in the game. I love them because of that. Also you are a level 7, you probably just need to get used to the jumps.

        • I mean, the only jumping puzzle (If you can call it that) you’ve done is riptide. You obviously haven’t learned how to use glide, so maybe do that before you post on the forums about how terrible the jumping puzzles are.

        • I don't usually post here but your comment sounded really familiar as I failed last week ascendant challenge, being unable to do the jumping puzzle (as a hunter ). I have to admit I'm not skilled enough to do this while i'm a "ok" pve player. Myabe I'll be able to complete half of the challenges. This is the one thing that I don't like in this game, I play destiny for the gunplay and super, not jumping around. I feel less alone :)
