Fallout 76 sounds terrible

I'm losing more interest in this game with each new revelation. As I suspected with a multiplayer angle, everything is going to be watered down. Perks, buffs and guns are all temporary. Guns wear out and need to be repaired? Oh, goody. Players can attack you and steal your stuff? Woo-hoo. No longer are you a unique pre-war "relic", like Piper would say, but you are now just a faceless player in world full of other Vault Dwellers. You are no longer unique, no longer going to be a powerhouse in the land, just another schmuck. You will also be cannon fodder for gangs of powerful players that are guaranteed to emerge. I'll pass on this crap.

  • The only thing I'm not a fan of is the possibility of the the brotherhood of steel in the game and that's about it

They do not expire thus no temporaray. ¬Some buffs are temporary others like mutations can become permanent. ¬Guns require maintainence and can be repaired and upgraded ¬If you are killed you only drop your Junk. Junk is stuff collected and used for base customization, gear upgrades and maintainence. ¬If you are attacked by a player and don't fight back it will take them a long time to kill you. At any time you can ignore them and make it nearly impossible for them to find you if you slip away. I can garuntee you weren't ever going to buy the game in the first place based on your post. So enjoy whatever you do plan to play as there are alot of options out there.

          • afaik none of the stuff you listed is new conceptually for the series beyond the MP itself. And I read the article. If someone kills you you don't lose your loot. The way it's worded it seems like you just lose ammo and other stuff. The gear that you have equipped shouldn't be dropped. If I understand what i've heard else where.

              • Eh I'll see what I end up with during the Beta and go from there. Obviously it's not a traditional Fallout game so I'm prepared for that. I'm just hoping they didn't screw up and make the nukes easy to cheese into.

                Looks like a lazy cash grab that strips even more elements that Fallout fans actually like (RPG elements such as character building, choices, dialogue, good writing, etc) and replaces them with more mediocre combat and settlement building. Can't say I'm surprised after the trainwreck that was Fallout 4, but it's sad to see one of the best RPG franchises become such a soulless and generic open world shooter.

                  • Any game in which you can steal players loot is a pass for me. More often or not i feel cheated out of my work due to connection or ballance issues to name a few

                      I just want to terrorise my friends on the game. It'll be funny walking round the wasteland. I'm honestly not bothered about story. For me, it's the crafting aspect and going out and exploring the world and finding new places. It would have been good if the bobbleheads were obtainable by everyone and they were permanent. I want to put them all on a vault boy stand again... I will not stop playing the game until I get an explosive shotgun or hand cannon

                    • Weapon durability was a thing in Fallout 3 and NV. I'm not sure about the older ones Bethesda didn't make. Buffs have always been temporary. Being one of many is the whole point of the game. Being one of many would have been the case for every vault if they weren't used for highly unethical experiments.

                      • I love reading replies and posts about all the trends people are whining about. "You got your PvP in my PvE" "You got your RPG in my not-RPG" Things change. Devs like to step outside of their comfort zones now and again. I thank the LORD someone over in Japan was like "fck it, let's make an open world Zelda game". Give that guy [i]all[/i] the raises.

                        • I’m sick of this trend in gaming. It seems like they’re taking an awesome solo player experience and turning it into another generic game as service “shared world experience” lacking in story and meaningful content. The reason single player games are dying is because these games make so much money these days. Guaranteed the games going to be stuffed full of micro transactions, loot boxes and “live events”. I really hope Bethesda don’t take this route with the next Elder Scrolls game.

                              So the return of a core mechanic from previous entries in the franchise is a big deal for you? Or did you suddenly decided to 180 in opinion on weapon and armor deterioration from Fallout 3 and New Vegas to 76? The only thing other players can get from you is any collected junk when they kill you. Yes, it's annoying. No, it's not that big a deal. So the fact that you can mutate and get weird positives and negatives doesn't make whatever crazy thing you get unique, thus making your character unique? So every multiplayer survival game ever. You're complaining about a spin-off that you have no obligation to buy for a main-installment story, why?

                              • Nope, it sounds awesome! Every one of my friends has stated at one time or another, sometimes many times, "I wish we could all explore together". There have been many times we would have 3 or 4 people in the same party chat, and we were all playing Fallout at the same time, having to send screenshots of things saying, "I wish you could see this", or "Man I wish we were playing together".

                              • The weapon degradation sounds great, imo. I love neeeding to repair my weapons. But Fallout 4 was awful, because it watered down the RPG side of the game, and 76 watering it down even more is why I’ll be giving it a pass. I’ll just stick to New Vegas.

                                  Watered down definitely fits FO3+4 anyways so 76 won't be any different in that aspect, just a slightly less version. I don't think you can critique 76 and not the others if we want to argue what's watered down. Plus as someone else said, the older games did have weapon durability. Was that an issue for you then? Or is it just going to be a 76 thing? Vault dwellers were only unique to an extent to begin with. I mean you're one in every FO game, it's hardly unique when that is always the protagonist. Your just another dweller but with a different personality each game. Edit: it also is pretty much fallout 4 but with multiplayer to me, I'm seeing no differences in some of the videos of gameplay, it looks the same, plays the same and even has some improvements. I already pre ordered 👍

                                • Weapon degradation was a feature in previous games before being removed in 4, the rest really doesn't sound great to be honest and i doubt i'll buy it at least at launch. Series peaked with New Vegas imo, 4 was fun but i just remember the immediate disappointment upon seeing how dumbed down it was when i first levelled up. Seems they've managed to dumb it down even more with trading cards..
