I frequently travel to Sojourner's Camp in the EDZ and stare blankly at the Khvostov that is laying against a rock, just laying there, unable to retrieve my beloved auto rifle from the first Destiny.
Don't get me started with the arsenal of them at the very beginning of the game. As I took my other two characters through the story I would loathe the Orgin Story looking auto rifle that would be the default pick-up. Even though I enjoy that archetype.
I see the reintroduction of Destiny 1 exotics and I'm super pumped when I see everyone getting hyped for their favorites. It's bittersweet, as I have no idea if or when mine shall return.
I have an idea for the Khvostov. At some point Sojourner's Camp should play a role in a quest to get it. Perhaps being there at night could be an idea, as you light the lantern next to it you'll then be able to scan the Khvostov and hear some dialogue from your ghost. From there you can get a schematic, frame, or some other part to take to the gunsmith, not before getting x amount of kills with an auto rifle or something.
Once you talk to the gunsmith, you get a common (white) Khvostov, it would require a certain number of planetary materials to advance the quest, and as you progress the requirements get trickier i.e complete a Nightfall using only your rare Khvostov, etc. Turning your Khvostov into an exotic would require a timed quest (think WoTW) and would challenge the player.
I'd recommend keeping it's orginal archetype @ 450 rpm. If the multiple firemodes were to return, allow the different firemode's damage correspond to the damage output it mimics i.e: single shot, scout rifle damage, etc. The masterwork could be a boost to stats. Another way to differentiate the Khvostov would be to make it the only exotic to get random rolls. However I haven't really thought that one through.
If you stuck through to the end, cheers!
Hopefully, someone from Bungie can check this out and totally pass this off as their idea, wouldn't even be mad.
