When you put extremely poor players and great players together in the same match, only one of them has a good time, and that's only if they're horrible people with no sportsmanship. You don't put the middle school football team up against the freaking NFL.
This is a sticking point to me. If you want it left off, 'Git Sportsmanship' and play someone your own freaking ability level, you coward. Any real competitive activity has divisions. Playing against the best players in the world is just dispiriting and miserable for anyone else!
Or, try this. Take ALL advancement out of the Crucible. See how full it stays when you're not forcing prey players in for the sweats. It'd be empty in a week, and rightly so.

1 ReplyNo. Not in a shitty peer to peer game. Skill based matchmaking is good for proper shooters with dedicated servers where you know enemy team is no more than 30ms from you guaranteeing a truly competitive experience. It is horrible in peer to peer shooter.

10 RepliesEdited by Inocrof: 10/5/2018 6:17:40 PMThis is some real participation trophy level nonsense... I hate pvp with a passion but really.. Boohoo others are better than me I shouldnt have to play them.. Wanting to play only bad players like yourself.. Makes you the coward... P.s. the bad nfl teams don’t get to not play a team because they’re better.. I honestly believe you have a 3 inch “congratulations on 7th place” trophy sitting proudly in your parents display case...

Bungie broke it so they had to turn it off. That is their solution to anything they can't fix they just turn it off.

18 RepliesAgree completely. Everyone thinks that when it is on, that it's the only determining factor. It's not. The game still matches by region, connection and all the other variables, it just helps to not get such huge discrepancies in skill differentials. Also, Forsaken has given the elite players - No SBMM in QP - Faster kill times for pretty much everything - Constant availability of ammo for Shotguns, Snipers, etc - a reworked weapon system for more loadout options - increased skill gaps - a months long power advantage by bringing back power mattering in PvP It's odd that they complained so loud and so belligerently about not being able to show off their "skill" in Y1, but begged for and received a Crucible that lets them prey on new and lesser skilled players pretty much across the board. With all the changes to weapons and kill times, power mattering and the complete removal of sbmm make ZERO sense.

1 Replyinb4 "but muh friends" you only party up because you know how easy it is to win against randoms. Just like how you would choose your group of friends instead of an LFG group to get through a raid faster. Don't come here pretending there is no advantage.

Connection based in Quickplay. Skill based in Competitive.
-
Solo queue is what you're asking for... Skill based matchmaking is a terrible idea.
-
16 RepliesSo yeah, F playing with your friends, you always have to make sure you are playing with players of your exact same skill. That is what you are arguing for when you say "SBMM is NEEDED"
-
9 RepliesOK, I've heard the argument for SBMM, but not really the argument for not having SBMM. So...
-
Nah fam. Keep sbmm out of quickplay

3 RepliesEdited by PilksUK: 10/5/2018 9:18:55 AMI completely agree other than the weekly challenge or daily if it comes up I no longer touch pvp in fact even when I do it I stick netflix on and just move around get shot and wait the timer out no point in playing... The main excuse PVP players give for not having SBMM is the match making time takes longer but I would rather wait a little longer to have a fun match! right now PVP is only fun for those few players that are very good and go round stomping and t-bagging (which is disrespful and against Bungies rules but never gets punished...) The other excuse is they was getting matched with the same people all the time and their matches were very sweaty which they feel should not be the case for quickplay in other words getting matched against people as good as them was not fun they want easy matches they can stomp in....

1 ReplyIt made it easier for streamers and content creators to get their highlight and weapon videos. We were told that matchmaking would be discussed and explored with the launch of Forsaken and yesterday the twab discussed many focus items for the next month and it didn't even make the radar so I am not holding out any hope now at all. I think that discussion has been tabled until player numbers drop enough to be of concern to them. In short if it is tolerated then it won't change.

2 RepliesTotally agreed. For me who KD still below 1 the matchmaking system kept pitting me with players who already has Luna and even Not Forgotten + Im still at Brave Glory level. The matchmaking sure is messed up.
-
6 RepliesThat's a no from me dawg. "Extremely poor players" are going to get slapped regardless of who they play. SBMM is the worst thing to ever happen to any non competitive setting. Playing against a variety of skill levels keeps it fresh. One game I might lead the team with 40 kills and the next I barely go even. Playing people of the same skill level gets boring and doesn't leave much room for improvement.

2 RepliesThere just needs to be two types of game modes. Competitive which really should be the same as Trials and is right now with as the sweats going to competitive. The other being all quickplay activities (clash, control, supremacy, rumble) heck they could even make a competitive rumble. They need Sbmm with cbmm in all competitive and barely any Sbmm with mostly cbmm in quickplay. I say this because I look off of other other games with these situations. Quickplay should be everyone against everyone where connections are clean. I do not care to get killed by someone who is better than me. I care when I get killed by someone because I can't deal damage to them, but they can shoot me when I am behind a wall on my screen. I absolutely hate when I melee someone, I die then 2 seconds later the other person takes the damage and dies. Cbmm should be priority as it makes for an actual fair game. Always putting people in your skill level isn't making things fair, thats just holding your hand because you don't want to play people better than you. Look at Call of Duty and Fortnite. No Sbmm in their normal lobbies and they are both huge successes. People do get better by playing better people and that's fact. That's how it is in sports and games because it forces the bad players to learn better tactics, strategy, and makes them focus as they need to to be able to compete. You don't learn that from playing people making the same mistakes you do. We also need a form of kill cam so bad players can see how they are getting killed and learn from it. When I first started playing Black ops after a month I had a .8 KD. I watched how people killed me, learned from them, found the guns and tactics I liked, and after 3 Years had a 5.6 KD and a top player in the world. Putting Sbmm like vanilla D2 was in QP makes for frustrating matchmaking. Not one single person got on QP and was not ready to quit after 2 matches. Now if they had dedicated servers and there was not much lag then it wouldn't be as bad, but when forcing us to go against players strictly based on stats and not much connection, connections are horrible and you don't even know if you can aim or not because it's all lag.

2 RepliesThis is a fine line because of many issues. 1. It's quickplay, not comp. If you want skill based, it should be comp. 2. Bad players don't learn from bad players. They learn what others do to beat bad players but don't learn to get better from good players. 3. What's the line for sbmm. Is it kd, kad, kda, rank, elo, etc. There's a wide range of skills with a wide range of results. I started out below a 1.0, now I average around 2.0 kd but my kd takes a while to raise. So do I get to stomp bad players with below a 1.0 or do I get to be with the sweats even though I average high 20s to high 30s per game but have a 1.2ish overall kd. It's a hard line to draw and it makes good players not be able to not play their hardest but also enables poor players to feel good but not gain adequate skill. I personally don't agree with the idea of sbmm in quickplay and it's a very ambiguous term that would need some tuning and should only be used in some form of rank based matchmaking in things like comp and trials when it returns if at all.
-
5 RepliesPlay comp then
-
yes. im not good at pvp but im trying to find enjoyment in it. not happening getting gradeschool stomped so often by rediculous missmatched games.
-
it wouldn't be so bad if after they matched you by connection, they then split you up by skill.
-
2 RepliesCurrently, loading times are so long, lag is so bad and players from Russia or Saudi Arabia so dominant i wouldn’t be surprised they put SSBM back secretly.
-
No way. Sbmm is in comp playlist. Keep quickplay open

The entire way PvP is setup is a disaster. I routinely get dumped into losing games with half a team, if I queue solo I regularly end up against stacks particularly in gambit. Many of the bounties and exotic quests force me to be a detriment to my team if I want to complete them, and to top it all off completing them is made even more difficult because skill based matchmaking is disabled. And all this is before we even get into the huge lag issues this game has, and the fact that in game modes like gambit I have to stand on a mote for 2-3 seconds before it picks it up due to the latency. This could all be alleviated if they just stopped giving us quests that are PvP exclusive. Let the people who want to play PvP play it, let the people who want to grind out a specific weapon do it in a game mode where they're not dragging a team down as they do it.
-
Nope, nope, nope. Not with B's P2P hybrid stuff.
-
Edited by RevZilla: 10/5/2018 2:30:18 PMSo then all someone would have to do is play with a lower bracketed player... Or if they had two systems they could use a alt account to host matches. Or you could simply not play the obj, wreck teams and still lose to drop skill bracket.

I love the way competitive is currently.

1 ReplyShould be enabled in Competitive but not in other modes.
