Arc strider is lackluster, and has always been my least favorite d2 hunter subclass. Night stalker is a good pve subclass but wraith is trash for pve.
Now, it seems gunslinger has some great subclasses for pve and pvp.
Anyway, way of the outlaw has imo the best neutral game for gunslinger. Flaming knife does great single target damage, and you can get it back easily by simply dodging close to enemies. Precision kills also grant you and nearby allies increased reload speed. The subclass has a useless perk that adds more aim assist to gg. And finally, 6 shots for gg. I used to use this class strictly for pvp, but before I got wotc I used this a bit for shits and giggles in pve and realized it’s pretty cool.
Next is way of the Sharpshooter. I Mained this on my hunter up until I got nightstalker and then switched between them. I used the reload dodge, as I was shooting more than throwing my knife. And if I threw my knife it was at ads, and could get it back. With this subclass boss damage was awesome, and with the celestial nighthawk you could do a tremendous amount of damage to a boss. As far as neutral game goes it was all focused on your super; precision super damage, and precision hits grant super damage. On the bright side if you landed a ton of precision hits you could use gg a few times. Arguably one of the worst pvp subclasses.
Finally way of a thousand cuts. The super is awesome, and easy to use. I can deal a lot of boss damage or just incinerate ads. The throwing knife is easier to deal damage with as you get 3 blades to hit with, and skilled players can hit 3 enemies with a single throw. Neutral game is focused more along the lines of your melee. I haven’t used this in pvp yet, but I believe it could be very good. As for pve I can’t decide.
