The Problem IS NOT My Internet

Bungie, quit sending me error codes telling me the problem is my network. It’s not. I can play any other online, multiplayer, or cooperative game I have without lag or disconnects. I can stay in Battlefield with 64 players on the map with no issue. I can stream Netflix or Hulu in HD with no problems. But I cannot play Destiny without getting shot through walls or teleporting enemies (PvP and PvE). I’m beginning to think the “Contacting Destiny 2 Servers” banner along the bottom of the screen is a permanent addition with Forsaken. Then I get booted and receive an error code. It doesn’t matter what error code it is, the explanation of it if I look it up is always the same. Basically, your codes say it is on my end. The best is when I’m in a party and get kicked and Destiny tells me I lost connection to my network. If that is true how am I still connected to my party? The common denominator for laying and disconnecting is Destiny. If you used the same glass to drink juice and tea and only got sick if you drank tea any sane person would blame the tea not the glass. Edit after reading some responses: I truly appreciate that some people are willing to help me set up my network. That is a very nice offer. It appears that maybe some games behave similarly (Rainbow Six?) but I don’t play them so I’m basing this off games I play. My main point is that if my connection works good for other games there is no reason why it shouldn’t work for Destiny unless there is something wrong with Destiny. Yet, Destiny error codes blame it on my connection. I should not have to reconfigure my network to be different when I play Destiny vs. other games. There is a problem with the way Bungie delivers Destiny to its players. The problem is on the developer’s end, not mine. They should quit acting like it is my problem. If other AAA developers can produce something that allows me to stay connected Bungie should just steal their ideas. Ubisoft should send a thank you note to. Bungie. I was going to wait to give AC Odyssey until it has been out for a while but I pulled to trigger on a pre-order today. I know it doesn’t impact the Bungie bottom line because I already bought Forsaken but I don’t want to continue with unreliable access to a game I tend to enjoy. Edit 2: I love the responses that say it is my internet because of the way connections are configured. No. It’s not my internet. At that point it is the way the connection is configured. My connection is still good the method to connect to other players is bad. Edit 3: For F sake, read some of the other responses. I don’t have my PS4 on WiFi. It’s hard wired to the modem and there is nobody on my network but me and I don’t run anything else while I play because I’m playing, not watching videos.

The bottom line is that when D2 left Battle.net and went with Steam on PC, that's when the problems started. They try to pin it on us, but it's on them. They need to spend the dough and upgrade their servers. I have 516mb/s download and 22mb/s upload. I should be able to stream and play games at the same time. But...NOOO, not with Steam and D2, it's always "ATTENTION contacting Destiny 2 servers" enter...rolling eyes emoji. My connection is wired, straight to a top of the line ASUS gaming router and that connects to a DOCSIS 3.1 modem. I have Port Forwarding for Destiny 2 Steam and PC setup, so there's no excuse as to why I'm getting kicked out of the game in the middle of a damn Raid or anything else. Bungie and Steam, face your darn issues head on and FIX THEM. Spend some money on your network, like I did. You do want us to spend $90+ bucks on the next D2 installment, well..., fix your issues if you want me to spend the dough....GOT IT? Thanks, Sincerely, M3Bimmer

  • Just got bumped off. I have an iPad next to me and quickly ran a net speed test. Nothing wrong with my setup. Low ping and download and upload are good. This started to happen a day ago with a connection error warning. I think it’s because I stopped buying passes and they want free to play people gone.

  • It's not you, it's their atrocious connection system. If you play crucible it's SPECIALLY obvious. You play during high EU (for me as I'm based in EU) times and there's no problems, you're not doing great but nothing feels off. Then you decide to play a Friday like today for example, and your name appears as killed by "x" before even you see the opponent on screen or your health going, and you wiff everything. It's not you, it's a massive peeker's advantage for anyone based in north america, because they have this hideous monstruosity of a network system, with no allowed ping limiters. I would personally rather play one game every 10 minutes with people that can be damaged, without getting annihilated by ghosts and no regs. Only option available is to play when you know you'll get hosted and matched by people from around your location (or hate yourself and keep getting destroyed through walls, by nobody, etc).

    • hey the way i fixed this issue was sorting through my antivirus protection and/ or firewall settings. for me turning the firewall off and other settings helped fix my issue temporarily but after the issue came back a few days later, i used a program that declutters the hardrive which somehow has now fixed my issue permanently

Every freaking time I'm about to complete a gambit match, I get kicked and I have to go at it again. I'm working on solstice armor and have played about 5 matched of the 10 needed but I only have credit for 2. -blam!- YOU BUNGIE AND YOUR WHOLE CREW OF -blam!-ING BUM ASS DEVS. -blam!- ALL OF YOU WITHOUT VASALINE!!!!!!!!!!!!! And your -blam!-ing kids and pets. Garbage ass company. FIX YOUR GOD DAMN SERVERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • My PS4 is hardwired and once Shadowkeep started I started having this problem. Contacting Destiny servers, getting kicked with error codes, running with fireteams into areas with no ads or a wall until I leave the fire team. I tried to raid last night and couldn’t even get in to the instance with everyone even after resetting both my PS4 and modem. They went to orbit, I joined, went into another instance, and everything was fine. Sometimes I can’t get to the tower without getting an error code and kicked back to orbit. As with everyone else, I can run smart tv’s, stream movies and shows, etc without incident. IT’S - JUST - DESTINY - AND -BUNGIE - SERVERS!!!

      • Bump. I have a hardwired connection, I have no problems in any other online game, but every single time I log into Destiny I get "contacting Destiny 2 servers". Frankly Bungie should be ashamed, the entire game is online but they have the shittiest netcode.

      • Bungie has had years to get this right and can’t seem to get anywhere close to fixing the issue. Now they have got skill based matchmaking, which I am not opposed to at all if the connection was not absolute garbage. I want to kick the devs in the face with a golf shoe at this point.

          • Amen to that. I cannot play any form of cooperative play in this game anymore without lagging my rear off. I try to find a game in the crucible and gambit, with no connection issues in orbit or on patrols. All of a sudden, my connection goes to hell. I have quests that require gambit and the crucible that I cannot do because of these connection issues. Maybe it is because I am on the east coast of the US, but that should not create issues these large, this often.

          • Funny. Over 6 months later and I’m still getting likes and comments. I’ve been done with the game since the second week of Black Armory. I’ve played a few games since then and have the same problem on just Anthem. It’s a shame that the games that are supposed to be the best have the biggest issues. I can play Borderlands 1 (a 10 year old game without problem).

I'm on a hard wired 500/500 fiber connection with no issues whatsoever in other games. Yet in Destiny 2 I have constant connection issues. It's rare that I can play more then 20 minutes without disconnecting either fully or partially (allows me to rejoin).

                • Like you and so many others, I have no issues at all with ANYTHING I play other than Destiny 2. When it says that it lost contact with the servers, I look and my Wi-Fi is flat out disconnected and will not work again until I unplug and and plug my USB Wi-Fi adapter back in. No other game(s) (or anything else for that matter) have any issues at all and I am less than 10 ft from the modem and nothing significant (not even a wall) between it and my PC. I quit playing for some time due to these issues, but figured I would give it a go today...mistakes were made.

                  • Still getting likes over 3 months later. The past 3 days have been exceptionally bad. It’s as if Bungie doesn’t even want me to play the game since I can’t even stay connected to do patrols and get ghost shell fragments. Of course the banner on bottom of the screen says it looks like my connection is the problem. Nope. When I turn of Destiny every other game and streaming movies work great. My connection is fine. It’s the infrastructure Bungie bought from Sanford and Son that is the problem.

                    • Yep. All Bungie's fault. How dare they single random people out and give them error codes for funzies. You bought all the best hardware/software/ect so obviously it's completely flawless.

                    • I hate all these "Error Codes" that might as well just get rid of them all and say "your connection is not good enough get a better one , everything on our end is 100% fine scrub" I have worked for ISP's for over 10 years, designing the networks, from what fibre to use, to what NTE's, Routers, Switches, SFP's, CWDM, DWDM and various other aspect's of network design and implementation. Currently I have in my house around 15 connections which are all test connections and on a 1:1 ratio, then I have the one I pay for which is a 300Mb/20Mb connection. Every connection gives me a ping of less than 20ms with ~1ms of jitter, and every single one of them when I try Destiny 2 on them gives me at random times "Contacting Destiny 2 Servers", this was the same with Destiny 1 on the Xbox one and PS4. Other games give me no issues apart from some of the Call Of Duty games where they use a P2P system, and that is because it picks the host to be someone who is closest to the majority of the players in the lobby. When I played Modern Warfare 2 and 3, in 99% of games I was the host because of my connection and being around the middle location of all players in the lobby, and I know I was the host because I was using an Admin Tool to get rid of cheaters out of the lobby. Games by now should not be using P2P services for hosting games at all, it is not that expensive to run dedicated servers for games, on average most users connecting to a server will be uploading data to the server at around 500kbp/s that's 0.5Mb, and downloading data from a server at about 1.0Mb, so once you get the hardware requirements right, really each server for Destiny 2 will only need around 100Mb to 200Mb of bandwidth for it for PVP, for PVE content then that would be around 500Mb both ways, from my rough back of napkin math. Anyone who say's the issue is never with Bungie or nearly always with the user, is just looking to kiss the ass of Bungie, because you will NEVER have a situation where the servers are not the issue. Look at Titanfall, Battlefield, COD, MOH and multiple other games where people are constantly complaing about the servers, and the dev's do nothing about it. This was just done whilst watching a Twitch Stream, and being on a work related conference call on Skype. https://imgur.com/2mrhZxx If I was to fire up Destiny 2 now though, I probably wouldn't get any error codes but if I did they would blame that connection and say it's bad.

                      • Bungie has always blamed the players for their bad mistakes and problems. Nerfs are because of our feedback, D2 vanilla was a result of player feedback, lack of grind was because of our feedback Excessive grind is because of our feedback Hence, bad P2P network based game MUST be because of this community's feedback which was given to the game architects in one of their wet dreams. It's all YOUR fault 😂

I do more than play games. I love to see the networking error banners while my internet monitor indicates no connection issues. TLDR: shit system built on shit netcode by a company who should know better...
