This was not the first time that you have been to Midtown. After the Red War, it had become a popular arena for the Crucible. But, remembering the previous fragment, you knew that it was not the first time this ground had seen conflict.
And you also knew where to look to find another.
Inside the battle torn bus, lay a Data Cluster.

Thomas fired a burst of hand cannon rounds. They all missed, but it was still enough to get the attacking fireteam to back off into an alleyway.
He had only won a small moment. Thomas turned to his team for advice.
“Got any ideas?”
“Hosque’s fried.” said Natala, reaching for a fresh magazine. “We are already down a man. And, if the other team is smart, they will attack from two sides at once.”
“We can’t defend two sides with a man down.” said Shera.
Thomas turned to Brendal, who was holding a grenade and looking towards the sky.
He tried to make out what Brendal was seeing, but all he could spot were a few birds and the dormant Traveller.
“What are you going to do with that?” Thomas asked.
Brendal stepped into the open, near the ‘corpse’ of Hosque.
Thomas cursed and took aim, prepared for whatever response the other team had.
After taking a few steps, Brendal primed the grenade, and tossed it.
There was the sound of metal hitting stone, and then-
Brwosh!
Paint splattered to create an ‘explosion’. Anyone significantly hit by it was an instant ‘kill’. Half a second later I heard a single cry of frustration from the other team.
“OH COME ON!”
“Five fights Five.” Brendal remarked.
Oban-10, a fisherman that wanted to see more than just the city lakes, left his hiding spot (which even I had missed).
“Good job Brendal, now please get back here. Don’t want to make this four v. five now. Unless it’s the other team that’s down, that is.”
Brendal picked up his Auto Rifle, which he had put on the ground to better aim the grenade, and slowly walked back to cover.
A sniper bolt shot suddenly, and to Thomas’ right Shera went down.
Natala, as quick as a viper, aimed her own rifle at the opponent’s sniper and fired. I could tell that it was another ‘kill’.
“Got one. I finally got one!” she said, a smile creeping up her lips.
“I could have done that…” Shera muttered before passing out.
Then another shot was fired.
Next to Thomas was the impact mark of a live round, smoke trail drifting in the wind.
On top of a building stood a Guardian, clad in black.
A third team had joined the battle.
I pinged the Guardian’s name, Callum.
Frantically I look for Biocatarus-2. I don’t see him anywhere.
The seemingly lone (I knew better) Guardian called out to the mortals below.
“What do you little spects have going on down there?” Callum said coldly. “Looks like fun.”
With a single jump he landed. His Ghost followed, and while I can not hear her words, she was definitely trying to calm her other half down.
He pushed her away, and looked towards the bus.
Thomas was resisting the urge to just curl up and hide.
“Shy all of a sudden? Just a moment ago you all seemed to enjoy shooting at each other.” Callum smirked.
“Aren't you a Guardian?” Natala asked. “Don’t you have other business besides messin’ with the people you’re supposed to protect?”
“Can’t say I do. Why don’t you all come out? Let me get a good look at all ya.”
He still has not seen me. Maybe I can contact my half, tell him-
Callum looks up, sees me.
“I see you there, tiny glow. Don’t try to fly off now, because after all this you and I have some words so share.” he said with a revolting glee.
I notice a hand cannon by his side, but I can’t seem to get a good look at it.
My other half. He’s here. Standing between Callum and Thomas’ group.
“Oh look at this.” Callum says, clapping slowly. He points at me, “Take it that’s your Ghost?”
“Focus on me, shadow.” Biocatarus-2 says.
“Oh, so you know what I am? Now I’ll have to kill ya.” Callum repli-
He hits my Guardian! How did he move that fast?
Biocatarus-2 reels from the blow, staggering. I’m not there to heal him!
Maybe if I get closer-
I feel a bullet fly past me. He’s shooting at me!
I need to find cover, he won't miss another shot.
Wait!
Callum suddenly stumbles, clutching his side.
Thomas has shot him. But a stun round is not enough to take down a Guardian.
Callum laughs. “Brave now huh!” He pulls out a grenade. “Catch.”
With little effort put into the motion, he tosses it at Thomas.
Before the grenade could land, my Guardian catches it. There is no time to toss it back.
No no! I’m not close enough!
I have to get closer.
Nearly there!
What is he doing?
He cast a Ward of Dawn? That won’t save him! That-
It exploded. The clouds are contained in the Bubble. He might still be-
I see him... The force barrier from the shield saved some traces of him. Oh no. Please be enough.
Please
It is!
I resurrect him. He rises in the bubble as it collapses.
Callum laughs, he draws his gun.
Oban-10, Brendal, Thomas, Natala, none of them have the reaction time to stop him.
This is the end.
...
Did I just hear… a Golden Gun shot?
A mark of fear appears on Callum’s face. He turns and runs.
I can just barely hear him say “Who did we lose?” as he leaves.
Biocatarus-2, my half that I nearly lost, stands.
It feels like all the shadows in the world slip away.
He does not say anything, but behind him I see Thomas.
I feel terror within him, disbelief, fear. I could feel his doubt rampage as the people he saw as protectors showed themselves as no such thing.
I don’t have time to deal with him. Right now I need to focus on my Guardian, my better half.

[The next fragment is on the Moon, Sea of Storms. Look for a place called the Temple of Crota. It’s there.]
