Now that we are a few weeks into the Forsaken leveling/progression system and into the endgame grind, I would like to here the thoughts and experiences of solo players. Those with smaller fireteams I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts as well. What has worked for you in Forsaken and what if anything do you think can be better still?

I think Y2 is great. With some flaws. What do I hate? Edge Transit drops Sleeper Stimulant in Gambit one shots guardians. Masterwork cores should be removed from infusion. One-Eyed Mask + Shoulder Charge in crucible is aids. Content for fireteams, like the blind well, nighfall, ascendant challenges which dont require communication should have matchmaking. I get there is LFG, but that doesnt mean bungine cant do it. Solo players who cant do the raid cant get the third seed of light. What do I love? Leveling in Y2 is way better than Y1. I ended up buying forsaken a few weeks after release so I am a bit behind, but as long as you grind getting to max power should be easy. Campaign Dreaming City is a sight to see. Music is great as always Collections, a much needed change. Now you know how to get everything and it makes the grind much easier. Although you cannot reacquire any forsaken gear because of random rolls for whatever reason.

  • bungie only wants 8+ hour a day addicts or streamers in their game... allowing the glitch/cheese/exploits without reprimand to the streamers was all the proof needed... it is very clear bungie doesn't care about the little guys... fool me 4 or 5 times, shame on me, fool me like 10 times then my wallet stays closed... no more funds from me bungie.

    • So like right now I'm at 521 light but there is really nothing for me to do progress until next reset. Sure I could grind out strikes or something hoping for a prime engrams to drop. But I just don't seem to have much luck with that.

    • Bungie will not give us solo queues for competitive pvp and Gambit. There are plenty of reasons for thst but just stating those will immediately offend all the ppl that enjoy their easy farm.

        • Same as always, good through the campaign, good through the initial grind. And a very large wall of go -blam!- yourself when you realize everything that is end game requires a fire team.

        • Same shit as usual except worse and with more grinding. D1 was almost perfect and then they scrapped it to come to whatever the hell this trash is.

NF, EP, Ascendant Challenges, Blind Well, etc. should all have matchmaking. Those activities don’t require any communication to complete and just require bodies. Hell, I would rather suffer through getting matched with terrible players to at least have the option to do these activities whenever I feel like instead of waiting around for EP and BW to get enough players in an instance. I can’t see any reason these activities can’t have matchmaking other than Bungie wanting to let fireteams progress faster because they thought they were capable of making a social game 4 years ago. I really have little to no problem with anything in this game other than the lack of matchmaking for EVERYTHING outside of the raid. The only other real issue I have is that year 1 content wasn’t brought forward properly. All that wasted loot just feels wrong since we now get the same 5 weapons dropping over and over again. The loot pool is so poor and boring right now.

          • This dlc was sold on the premise that it was geared more towards the solo player, it is in fact, not. If you want to do the story missions then you can do that solo, but every other activity needs a fire team if you wish to have fun. From crucible/iron banner to the blind well and hawthorn bounties, you will need fire teams to even enjoy this dlc. Leveling up was okay at the start, once you start to hit the soft caps then it got tedious. The inclusion of infusion with master work cores made that system unapproachable until you get to light level 600 with just rares and random legendary drops. Buying master work cores from spider was an education, only seeing that it cost 10 shards I started to buy as much as I can from him, little did I know, the cost of doing business with spider kept going up exponentially. The only redeeming quality of this dlc is the dreaming city and its secrets and art work. The enemies feel like another reskin but at least they have some different abilities like an arc relic that pulls you in or a void relic that provides immunity to the scorn. Some of the fights feel like sponges, but I guess that's due to the reduction in damage to scouts or that my light was not high enough for the area I was in. There seems to have been a lot of bugs and glitches in this dlc, either it felt rushed or there was a lack of QA testing. After the first 2 weeks there was now no point in playing since the powerful engrams are bugged and not providing the power that they should. There is also a list floating around about which activities one should be doing to maximize their light level gains, so once you get high enough the only activities you should be doing is nightfalls, raids, and the dreaming city weeklies. This takes away from the rest of the games activities that are offered which provide powerful engrams. The seed of light controversy could have been avoided if it was communicated before the raid had dropped that there are more than 1 avenue to obtain the third seed. After getting the first and second ones and putting them to use I was anticipating unlocking the third sub class to see how that one plays only to find out I have to now wait and see where the third one is located at other than the raid. To many things are time gated as an attempt to keep players artificially playing the game instead of players playing the game due to it being fun. I did like the new triumphs page and collections page and that along with the advertising for it being solo friendly is the reason I bought the dlc in the first place.

So after playing some this weekend I feel that this grind is going to be a problem for me. It's not just about being like 80% solo, its also my available time to play. My 20 hours a week is not going to cover my costs for leveling up. Slow level up is going to mean slow progress to get second Subclass let alone the third. To which I don't really like Raiding even though it's not the full raid you have to do. I played most of D1 behind the ball of leveling and somehow I was ok with it. Each 10 levels of progress felt like an accomplishment. Now it feels like a chore. I fear that it's going to take me way too long to level and I'm going to loose interest. I'm still trying to reserve judgment. I feel like I'm going to need to do more PVE to progress when PVE gets boring. It's possible now that Control etc are in Comp I'll do more of that and see where it goes. I'm definitely not going I to the no MM shit how that is QP. Overall I like what they did, I'm just not sure what they did is going to be what I need to enjoy the game. I can't really vote because nothing applies to my situation.

I think the changes that came with Forsaken were great. My only complaints are this. Infusion costs. They have limited your gear choices to the point where you won't even get to enjoy the accomplishment of getting to use the gear. The next dlc will likely be upon us before a majority of the players will even have the resources to be able to use what they enjoy before the gear might possibly be rendered useless again. Old gear made redundant. The fact that the armor sets and weapons we ground for year one were not given the year 2 treatment. Even the Solstice gear is useless which is a head scratcher in and of itself. I want the armor sets with the year one ornaments I ground for to have the new perks and accept the new mods. Is that too much to ask? Progression. The progression system is a bit to much of a slog for my taste. Edit: I forgot. The clan bounties. I prefer the year one system where you level the clan by just playing, not tied to specific activities. It's too limiting.

              • Only complaints I have are the masterwork cores being required for infusion and also the RNG for determining whether the "Powerful Gear" I earn is actually beneficial to my power level.

As solo player, I've been enjoying the expansion so far. It has improved on every aspect of vanilla D2, but boy the grind is real, it's been a slog to level up light and I'm hoping that gets addressed in a later update. Masterwork cores need to be removed from the infusion process entirely, as it is extremely limiting and should be used to masterwork weapons and gear only. Also the drop rate for the newer loot is terribly scarce, the only exotics I've gotten were from year 1 and I have yet to pick up anything from "Forsaken", so that needs a tweak to keep it honest, but not a total giveaway. Other than those concerns, the Forsaken DLC has been quite a treat and has given us back the game we once loved.

              • It's fine. If Masterwork Cores got removed from Infusion so I could focus on using them to fine tune & empower my favorite weapons & armor I'd feel less negative towards the late/end game. For Solos the Blind Well (usually load in solo just like Archon's Forge. *shrug*) & Ascendant Challenges are the end for us. No Raid, no 3rd Seed of Light, so Masterworks are quite possibly one of the best features for Solos. Yet, I have to choose between usability & viability. Before, infusion allowed players to upgrade armor & weapons they liked. Masterworks were supposed to be something players "dedicate" to their favorite items thus making them unique/special. But Masterworks pale in comparison to an upgraded item. I found the Masterwork process a really good & compelling path for Solo players. But now... =/

                • I understand some of the rationale behind the lockout bias solo players have. I am 99% solo unless I play with one other friend. What bugs me is that it’s so darn easy for Bungie to mod the activity to player count but they won’t. Not really understanding why a slight difficulty nerf can’t be implemented for strikes and raids so more players have access for a skilled calculated run. Some would argue that raids and strikes are not intended for solo play but while this may be true, Why are sherpas and guides allowed to carry extra players for undeserving reward? Is is fair to lock out the solo destiny loyalist? To me a prestige solo pathway with unique solo rewards could close a huge gap in this game and make it so much more satisfying for what I believe it a very large and dedicated fan base. Who here would buy a DLC that catered to a high difficulty raid type pathway for an Assassin? Me, I would. If you can lock out solo players. Why can’t you also lock out fireteams? Just my 2 cents. Thanks for the post!

                  • I like the direction D2 has taken. However, where the current game is now is where D2 should have been from jump street. D2 just feel way to neutered in comparison to D1. There a still some issues to work through, like the master core nonsense, but this expansion actually felt like progress towards getting back to the D1 days.

                  • This game dresses itself up as a casual friendly game. “Jump in play a strike, go live your life, rinse repeat”. When in actuality it’s “cool you’re invested. Now go subject yourself to racists/sexist/homophobic teenagers you find randomly on a website”. It’s been fun playing the 10% of progression they give solo players but the fun doesn’t last.

                    • As a solo player you miss out on powerful gear each week as you can not complete the weekly clan engrams, and as the leveling system is not a grind as it typically is and it is orientated towards completing specific tasks each week for your prescribed powerful gear, it hurts to miss out on it. Also I absolutely love gambit but playing with dunces that can not shoot the wizards for the bonus damage gives me a god damn headache.

Now if only we get better perks, and such. Then maybe people will come back to this game. I say maybe because integrity is still #1 We are still back to the starting line of what we left off at. Removing so much that it took 2 years to get back to this, not really integrity

                      • As someone who has been on the hardcore and casual side, I have no complaints. But my attitude has always been: You're either gonna put in the work and get what you want or your not going to get anywhere. Whatever I miss out on cause I don't wanna group up is my fault and no one else.
