It would be a lot higher than 1%. Destiny tracker said 6.7% of players were using AoS in crucible - it’s currently the most popular gun in PvP:

And that’s just people using it in PvP. The amount of people who have it but aren’t using it - or the amount of people who use it in PvE (like me) is sure to be a lot higher. It’s not the “elite” impossible to get gun you think it is.

I think when my Xbox trophy popped it said 4.something, but it's not high at all for a quest weapon that's literally given by doing the story My thoughts anyway, Nano

So, what does this tell us about the quest to get the gun?
-
That it really wasn’t that hard in the first place. It was a pain in the ass to get those invader kills (and not at all fun) - but it wasn’t impossible. It just took time and luck - not really a lot of skill. They probably didn’t need to nerf it. I do think it was a poorly designed quest step though. It forced you to ignore the objectives of the match and play selfishly.

Meh, I managed to do the quest and play the objective, but that's just how I roll. I don't think the quest was broken, and frankly having to learn the invader spawns so I could hunt people down was fun and a skill I will take with me so I can shut people down. I do agree that it wasn't hard. Annoying? Yes. But not hard at all.
