They actually did it. Bungie gave a direct crucible advantage to players who bought Forsaken. Iron banner isn't ACTUALLY unplayable without the DLC, of course, but the massive level advantages are unfair. I really hope this wasn't intended to exclude players who haven't bought the DLC yet, but considering how bungie has acted in the past, I have some doubts. Bungie do something about this please.
I didn't post this to argue. I posted it because I felt the level advantage was unfair to players who wanted to enjoy a vanilla gamemode without buying unnecessary DLC. When DLC-Caused level advantages were in the game before, there never was a truly significant difference. You could still do well in a gamemode where the majority of other players had a level advantage. It's just kind of trashy being almost excluded from a gamemode that was in the base game, that previously could be enjoyed by anyone with or without DLC.
Edit: People are acting like I cant afford Forsaken. False. If I actually wanted to spend my money on a mainly PvE expansion, I would have bought Forsaken already.

It’s pretty ridiculous that I literally can not do any damage to opponents simply because I can’t pay $40 for an expansion at the moment. Gg.

1 ReplyWho would want to play Iron Banner if not to grind more power in Forsaken? I don't say that sarcastically; I'm genuinely curious
-
Bungie has almost always catered to those who gave them the money, for better or worse. Even back in the day when they were pushing out Halo games. The special double XP matchmaking playlists were always reserved for those who got the latest map packs. The loophole here is that they aren't physically denying Iron Banner from players without the DLC, because then that would be a real, reportable issue, and they'd get in trouble. But if they turn on light level advantage, there's the chance that even just one more player will buy Forsaken, just to get up to speed.

3 RepliesOkay, that is great and all... But to be fair this is what a lot of us wanted from the start. In D1 at the beginning level advantages where there but it wasn't any notable and there where a lot of complaints about that. It got a bit better latter on but it was still not what we had been originally promised. Originally it was supposed to be what we have now... Too little light? sorry banner isn't for you! come back when your stronger! This has been the best banner I have ever played! I hope it stays this way its perfect!

I feel your pain, I am all for level advantages being in Iron Banner but the extent Bungie took it is too far. At max light pre-Forsaken (400) against a max light guardian with Forsaken you can kill them with 3 lethal shots/melee. As a Titan I Shoulder charged, point blank Shotgunned a guy (2 shots with a Baligant) and they onetapped me as I killed them. That is insanely too much. If that's what Bungie wanta then they next to split the playlist between owners or Forsaken and non owners. Otherwise the original post is correct, Iron Banner is unplayable and gated behind the dlc. P.S. for anyone saying "buy Forsaken, get a job." I am not paying for Forsaken on principal. I paid day one full price for all content up to Forsaken. Vanilla $80 +tax (Canadian) DLC pass $45 + tax Taken King $50 + tax Then I needed a PS4 to get Rise of Iron (fine) Destiny the collection $80 + tax Stupid me bought the full Destiny 2 collectors edition $140 + tax That a total of $395 + tax I have Bungie. If they had released Destiny in the condition that it is in now with Forsaken I would take now issue with purchasing it. But they release an terribly stripped down, gimped version of Destiny 1, horrible Curse of osiris dlc and the lackluster Warmind. All 3 pre Forsaken Destiny 2 releases were hot garbage, $140 + tax worth of hot garbage. Now they have remedied that mistake but they are still making many mistakes. DLC gate Iron Banner, Odd pricing for Forsaken, plus where the hell did Artifacts go? Did people complain about the one that fixed their terrible pvp radar?

Iron Banner is broken right now in season 4. Matchmaking has been awful. I've been on teams that have lost six seven times in a row, because of the unbalanced matchmaking.

1 ReplyEdited by Azrael-Symphony: 9/24/2018 7:11:53 PMThank you. Someone else has called out Destiny. Everyone defending Bungo go ahead. I called this the day they said, "anyone who has destiny can play IRON BANNER, and all Season Events." I was watching thier live streams and they kept showing characters with 600 light level. And I said watch bungie lock everything behind light levels. Those who have destiny can ALWAYS play, without the light levels though they screwed over alot of the fans sho can't and won't keep paying for such a shit company. (No offense Bungo, but like who thought up this idea, fire them but morning.) The fans aren't stupid. We'll just wait to call you out on the BS

9 RepliesEdited by Philimanjaro105: 9/20/2018 11:28:51 AMJesus- just play Crucible you crybaby. Let there be ONE -blam!-ing limited event mode that actually respects light level, the way it was for the entirety of D1. Stop whining, or nut up and buy the DLC.
-
11 RepliesYou shouldn't be blaming Bungie. You can thank all the players that wanted power level advantage enabled because they wanted to feel special. Bungie had it right before with no power level advantage and everyone able to compete in Banner. That's actually fair competition. Not this crap that neutralizes better players.

2 RepliesI bought a new car in 2006 and I went to the dealership to drive a newer version but they had the audacity to tell me I had to pay for it!!!!
-
4 RepliesSo you can afford forsaken, but won't buy it?....you deserve every death you get
-
2 RepliesNot to be mean but if u don’t have the expansion they shouldn’t even let u play iron banner, you’re just a thorn to the guys unfortunate enough to get paired with you.
-
Don't worry, the matchmaking is so bad that's just unplayable in general.
-
6 Replieswhat your experiencing is what is called peer pressure. Bungie wants you to buy the expansion, otherwise they would of already created separate play list. Either that or they just want to piss off allot of their player base.
-
13 RepliesIt should be unplayable to non expansion buyers entirely
-
Iron Banner should never have had the Light Level advantage turned off.
-
6 RepliesI mean, that's how it was in Destiny 1. So cute post.
-
-
Forsaken is mainly a PVE expansion tho
-
Good! You guys shouldn’t even get iron banner .
-
1 ReplyIt is also an up to the people who purchased forsaken wipe the nonbelievers out I can’t blame Bungee for taking care of loyal customers
-
Yeap was like this all through d1, go play regular crucible or get curb stomped in iron banner your choice. You still get participation tokens.
-
5 RepliesAnd if iron banner wasn't available for ppl who didn't buy foresaken, they would be crying .....bungie are damned if they do and damned if they don't....
-
IB has had light advantage since vanilla D1...
-
Iron Banner has a reason to exist with the current system. I'm sorry that you don't want to buy the new content, but what you overlook is that this game is built on a steady diet of new paid content. And Iron Banner isn't the only thing you can't do without going in for the DLCs. You can't do nightfalls, probably can't do Vanguard strikes, can't beat the roaming Wanted Mini-bosses, and much more.

17 RepliesThey should just keep non-forsakens with each other. I don't know why that is so hard.
