Leveling guide Ver 0.6
.
.
FIRST THINGS FIRST:
There are Tiers of powerful rewards:
Powerful is not powerful
Some have caps at specific power levels
.
.
Powerful drop Tiers(=T):
T1 (520): Spider, Dailies, Strikes, Gambit, PvP, Flashpoint, heroic story, Ikora, lv. 50 bounties
T2 (540): Nightfall
T3 (560+):Dreaming City, Exoitcs, Prime Engrams, Exotic quests
.
.
.
CAP FOR POWERFULS - WHAT DOES THAT MEAN
It means that you won't get really powerful items when you are above 520/540
Instead you get an item 1 higher than your max overall power level
Example: You are 525 and have a 528 weapon
You do a T1 activity (520 cap)
You get a weapon which is 526 power, even though your current weapon is 528
max power + 1 = reward drop
Same for nightfall until you hit 540
Dreaming city loot cap is above 540, same with Prime Engrams
.
.
.
.
ACTUAL LEVELING GUIDE
.
.
BELOW 520:
Pretty easy:
Do the T1 (Tier 1) rewards first — once you reach 520 these are less valuable so wait with nightfall and Dreaming city loot
.
.
ABOVE 520:
Look at your equipment:
Do you have many items which are equal or do you have a few items which are much lower than your current level
Let's say you are 530 with only 530 items
Would it make sense to do T1 rewards They will reward you with only 531 items and will not increase your power (unless you pull 8 different items - very unlikely) -> don't do it
Instead do T2 and T3 rewards. (Keep in mind that you do T2 rewards before reaching 540! They will be less valuable afterwards)
Now you are 532 with still many 530 items -> farm T1 rewards until you can't increase your power any more
Example: You are now 532,2. Do rewards until you are 533, because 534 is too difficult to achieve with only T1 rewards and require lots of rng luck
Continue to boost your level with T2/T3 rewards and try to push low level items with T1 rewards.
.
.
"I HAVE LOW LEVEL ITEMS - MUCH LOWER THAN MY POWER"
Do the nightfall
It drops items -5 to -10 below your power level (if you are below 540)
Example: You are 530,5 and have a 520 chest piece - you can farm the nightfall until you get a 524,525 chest piece and your power level increases to 531 -> better rewards
.
.
WHEN SHOULD I DO MY T1 CHALLENGES
You have to think about it and decide different in every situation.
If you have 3 items below your power and need to improve all of them to gain +1 max power it is very unlikely
But if you have 4 items below your power and need to improve only 2 of them you should do T1 rewards until you gain that +1 power upgrade
.
.
EXOTICS:
Don't redeem then until you hit 520 and only use them if they boost your primary weapon by more than 3 OR if they let you increase your max power level
.
.
PRIME Engrams:
You can get 1-3 Prime engrams per char daily
They drop at around +5
Redeem then immediately because they don't scale with your power once dropped (not like exotics and challenges)
Best ways to get them are EP , Blind Well (without glitch)
They can basically drop from every orange or yellow bar enemy
.
.
TO SUM THINGS UP:
Below 520: do all T1 , then T2, then T3
below 540: only do T2 and T3 if you can't raise your power by doing T1 (or if it is very unlikely) - but do your T2 rewards before hitting 540 otherwise they will be not useful
above 540: only do T3 rewards if you can't raise your power by doing T1 and T2 like above

Nice but you have nothing for 580+ :/

1 ReplySo far week 2 and Dreaming City powerful gear is only dropping 1-2 above my overall. That’s on 2 characters that I’ve done so far.
-
4 RepliesWhy do people type up nonsense? And why do people in the forums eat it up as fact?

Thanks for sharing!

19 RepliesAs a vanilla destiny day one player, I think Bungie hit the sweet spot with this leveling. Everyone complaining that certain things are not worth doing after a certain point becomes silly when in reality you’re still gaining just maybe not as fast as you would like to. Reaching top level in a game should take work and dedication (And a lot of time) otherwise what’s the point if everyone reaches top rank within a few weeks?? I just think many people have gotten used to Bungie handing everything to them on a platter are crying because they have to do some work now. Warframe would be another good example...It takes a whole lot of time to get a higher rank in that game, but rightfully so. I know that when I see people in that game that are above level 25, I know they have done a lot of work to get there. My advice for all players... just go in and play the game and enjoy it. If it’s not the type of grind for you then just don’t play. I honestly think bungee hit the sweet spot with this update! I think you’re rewarded for what you do but at the same time you don’t level up in two weeks like their previous expansions. The same goes for exotics..I have put in quite a few hours since the expansion and have only gotten one new exotic, but I’m perfectly happy with that because it makes chasing them so much more enjoyable AND rewarding when you get them. Just play and have fun..If not..play something else!

8 RepliesThis is a great breakdown. Unfortunately this shows a lot of thoughtlessness on Bungie's part. After you clear a tier, there's no more point in doing said activities. This means that it will soon become a weekly "hop on Tuesday, clear T3 activities, play something else". This also means that people will get frustrated with the lack of progression and put the game down once they get stuck. Not only that, but with no T3 PvP progression and IB having power matter again, PvP centric players may got stomped during IB. I would urge Bungie to get rid of the tier system entirely and let all powerful engrams be equally powerful. Let players progress the ways they want to instead of the way they're being shoehorned to. I've said it before but endgame is what you do after you hit the cap, not the climb to it.

10 RepliesThat is a nicely put together guide... BUT WHAT THE ACTUAL F IS THAT. The grind was literally ruined with this setup. What was wrong with D1 when you just did bounties to level your reputation and would grind strikes or crucible for drops. Or PoE when that came out. Seriously. This is the most complicated and least rewarding grind I have seen in any part of Destiny. I was so excited for Forsaken. Story was done pretty decent, new game modes, new raid and BOWS which are amazing. They failed hard with this one.

2 RepliesLike all the other responses here indicate, When a game developer turns something so innately simple into something unnecessarily complicated, it becomes overwhelmingly STUPID! 1. Keep the basics straightforward 2. ADD innovation 3. Don't change things that arent broken 4. Produce adequate and frequent content for the grind 5. Make things balanced without bias 6. Be creative without complication so that the game appeals to a broad player base How hard can it be?
-
3 RepliesWho came up with this idiotic system? They should be fired. This takes all the fun out of progression.
-
18 RepliesEdited by Corrick II: 9/13/2018 6:35:48 PMWow. I appreciate the effort that went into this but when you see it all spelled out it just makes everything seem so... exhausting. Who the hell thought this would be fun... I have one character just above 500, and now I’m wondering why even bother. I’ll get to the raid around... I don’t know... mid 2020.
-
14 RepliesLeveling up should be straight forward....like...any other game does. Destiny's system is stupid as shit.
-
Edited by DeathPony07: 9/15/2018 2:47:40 AM"More ways to level up!"-Bungie *Throttles the shit out of the leveling and infusion systems, so the game becomes a boring grinding chore to play* -also Bungie Bring back Year 3 infusion and leveling, loot, and vendor systems, so we can actually play the game, instead of playing the way YOU want us to.
-
1. Spam the shit out of the Prime Engram glitch 2. Not get penalised for it, rather, gain an advantage in the new raid over the people who didn't do it 3. Profit
-
What about Heroic Adventures? I noticed those weren't mentioned.
-
Bungie have produced a complicated mess, not only that, but the game is broken in many aspects!
-
3 RepliesEdited by Flake: 9/13/2018 11:30:49 PMI will ignore every single one of these now, thank you. Once RDR2 comes out or if reach 560, i'll be gone if we dont get a proper straightforward progression. I want my time to be respected, i dont want to be forced into stuff i dont wanna play. I dont want to, I wont do friggin raids to level up. This was an issue back in D1 remember the forever 29? yeah..
-
17 RepliesSo basically, there’s a bunch of stuff in the game that will become not worth doing in a week or two because they don’t scale with your character? Got it. I was kind of impressed with the amount of new activities that were added. Now I see it’s just like it has always been and I’ll be ignoring most of it as worthless in short order. I’m glad to see Bungie is being consistent after all. But thanks for the information. It’s useful.
-
Just did Petras weekly... 20 below light level. So this is a lie
-
Good info, thanks!
-
8 Replieswhat a stupid way of doing things...this game sucks now...best part is nobody even asked for this, Bungie just went and touched something that wasnt broken...as usual
-
THIS ^^^^^ Is the problem with Bungie and their mindset. Vanilla Destiny 1, for people who like grinding games. Destiny 2, for the casual, easy to get stuff, collect everything in a few weeks. Destiny 2 year 2, back to being a grinding game, SLOW progression (which ok ish), Exotics are harder to come bye (again, ok to me personally). Bungie just can't make up their minds as to how they want the game to be. Cater to causals, make it a grinding game for those who sit at home all day with nothing else to do. Personally I don't mid the grind, I work from home (thank goodness) so I have the time to play, but the progression after 520 seems pretty limited in terms of time spent just to level up 10 light for example. Looks like getting to 600 is literally gonna take until the next DLC LOL.
-
Good post Leveling system is fine. People just wanna hit 550 doing patrols and strikes then complain the raid is easy
-
Thank you for this! It really helps narrow down what I need to do! Cheers!

TLDR: Kill stuff and don't die.
