Ok, so I may be wrong, and I haven't totally figured this out, but I think I know how Vex are created. I know that this may just be a HUGE coincidence but with some of the voice lines in the missions and some of the missions themselfs sound like this. So get ready to go Game Theory and this thing
Note: A lot of the clues come from quest which are unlocked after the story and contain spoilers for the quest, so click at your own risk

Ok, my theory is that Vex are made from organic beings that they come across, like Awoken, Fallen, Cabal, even Humans. This may sound crazy but if you read what I have to say, I may be able to change your mind. so I have 3 main points for this theory
1.I'm going to use what we already know about Vex invasion strategies and from the actual game to figure this out. So as we all know, Vex invade planets by sending there "troops" (AKA Goblins, Hobgoblins, Etc.) We also know that they then proceed to convert the planet. We actually don't know what a fully converted Vex planet looks like, because us Guardians so rudely interrupt them every time. But using this same concept of converting things, plus with the fact that we never seem to find ANY Vex factory EVER, it seems to me that they have factories on the other side of the universe, OR that they instead take the very beings that they conquer and turn them into there own troops, which makes sense seeing that they repurpose the planets they conquer, why not the people?
2. Asher is the main point in this theory. If any of you have ever talked to Asher you'll notice that his right arm is missing and been replaced with a cybernetic prosthetic. No big deal right? Well if you look closely, you'll actually see that A. Its twitches weirdly, like it wants to move on its own. B. It has the same color as the Vex and the style looks they same. In a world where we can bring people BACK FROM THE DEAD I think we could make a cybernetic prosthetic that looks real. We'll if you listen when you complete the Pyramidion strike, you'll hear about how Asher lost his arm do to the Genesis Mind. But look at the wording, he doesn't say "Destroyed" or "Incinerated" He says, quote "The Vex corrupted my arm" Corrupted? Interesting use of words. and we know that Asher is very intellegint he would accurately describe what happened. So this makes it sound like the Vex where in the middle of changing Asher into a Vex. I can almost prove this with the quest on Io you'll here that Asher says " I can feel the pull on my arm" when the Taken start corrupting Vex to increase there numbers. Why would Asher's are be pulled if it was just a machine? and if it was to ALL machines, then how come your Ghost didn't feel the pull? This almost PROVES that Asher's arm is a Vex arm.
3. This last point has to do with 2 quest "O Captain" the quest on Nessus. when you see the strange harpy, you constantly hear it say "I have this memory". Why would it say this when you talked to it about events that happened to the CAPTAIN, not the harpy? and the Vex seemed to think that you where going to meet the CAPTAIN. At the end of the Quest you see the bones and suit of the captain, and hear the audio recording. He says "I think the Vex want to study me". But what was really happening was that the Vex where converting him into a Vex. Even the harpy can TALK!! We have NEVER, EVER heard a Vex talk in english. But there one problem with this. His bones are still in the suit. Well I figured out the problem. Vex can only make other Vex from organic material. Thats why his bones are left behind but not his actual flesh. And Vex even have organic stuff in them. The white fluid that comes out of them when you shoot there critical hitbox, is organic.
Ok thats all I got to say, but I hope that you guys might look at the Vex a little different from now on.

The Universal Wavefunction lore tab provides more evidence for this in saying that the fluid itself is not the Vex. They just boil their enemies down into it and add them to the collective.

12 RepliesGet ready to get your minds blown: Book of Sorrow says that the Vex are from an alternate dimension and arrived in ours through a portal in time Crota ripped open with his sword. The vex were very confused and didn’t know anything of this world, so they began to attempt to assimilate the sword logic. Blah blah blah, hive and vex fight, blah blah blah, they make Quira, yadda yadda, the vex escape and start to transform everything they see, and destroy everything they cannot transform. That is why you often see vex fighting hive on the few occasions they cross paths. They actually have a very deep history together, considering they are the only reason they are here!

1 ReplyThere was a lore tab that said Asher cut his finger and bled radiolaria. This was in a letter to Eris Morn

A) Mercury is 100% converted and Nessus is really close to it. B) Asher also has the theory that the Vex convert organisms to grow their numbers. I can’t remember exactly where but I believe it was in an adventure.
-
From D1 campaign, we know that the Black Garden is the birthplace of the vex, so eh I doubt it.
-
I thought Mercury was totally converted?
https://www.ishtar-collective.net/entries/silicon-neuroma?highlight=Asher
Asher's arm was ripped off

1 ReplyLike others have stated we really have no clear picture of Vex origins. That said I think your theory is a sound hypothesis (oh no I sound like Asher). Asher is the perfect example/argument for your point and if the Vex attempted to convert three guardians why could they not convert other being. You're right that the bones of Failsafe's captain are a small hole, but maybe they only convert one's mind into radiologist (but then why convert all of Asher). At this point in time (vex pun intended) I think your theory is just about the most concrete theory we have going on the Vex so far. Kudos

3 RepliesEdited by Circadian Wolf: 9/12/2018 3:59:22 PM“The Vex are not born like humans or created like exos. Perhaps like the awoken and my arm, they are converted.” ~Asher Mir While what you say is true, the Vex infect and convert entire worlds in this method, it brings us no closer to understanding their origins. There was a species that created the vex, either intentionally or by accident. I have several theories but none with any hard evidence.
