First of all, this is not a crying post, but a suggestion one. I’m really enjoying Forsaken and all it has to offer, with one complaint. I have a friend that I play Destiny 2 with on occasion. Recently, he received his third (yes, his third) Forsaken exotic for his Warlock. Thing is, I have poured over 40 hours into this expansion, and I have received absolutely zero exotics. In fact, those active in my clan have received at least one, and I play more than any of them.
I understand that exotics were made to be more rare with the release of this expansion, but I can’t help but think that there should be some formula or something that tends to favor those who put more work and time into the game. Bluntly put, I’m experiencing video game socialism at its finest.
Bungie, I don’t know if it’s possible, but I would like a change in this arena. There’s really no reason I should play for 40+ hours and receive no exotics while my friends play for less and get everything they need.
Edit:
Mathematically, time spent should contribute to overall RNG success rate. I think Destiny’s RNG is supposed to, but I haven’t seen much evidence. For example, if an item has a 10% drop rate, I should get it in 1/10 drops. Say I don’t get it in my first drop, then the ratio changes to 1/9 drops. If I don’t get it in my second drop, the ratio changes to 1/8 drops. The more I play, the better chance I should have at getting a certain item. Since two nights ago, I have probably played 30 (500 Power) strikes, all with two Fireteam Medallions on at all times by myself and another fireteam member. During those 30 (500 Power) strikes, I received countless amounts of blue drops and only a few low-power legendary drops. It is starting to look like once you get one great drop, the floodgates open and you get many more. Shouldn’t it be the other way around? Shouldn’t our chances for great drops (exotic, god-roll legendaries, etc.) decrease the more we get them? This would give players incentive to keep playing instead of burning them out before they can break any sort of ground.
Edit 2:
So, I just did the Ascendant bounty for Petra in the dreaming city with two of my clan mates, one of them being the friend I mentioned in my original post. When we turned in the bounty, two of us got one piece of legendary powerful gear, but Mr. Vegas (my lucky, exotic friend) got two exotic drops....TWO exotic drops from this Ascendant bounty. Keep in mind, this is the guy who has already received 3. I am more than happy for my friend, so this isn’t against him. My point is that it’s obviously not balanced. It seems like there is a gate on exotics so that once you get one, you’re more likely to get a ton more. But what happens if you never even get one? Bungie. 👏🏻 Fix. 👏🏻Your. 👏🏻 RNG. 👏🏻

Sorry to tell you this but, I received 2 exotics last night. The sixth coyote hunter chest piece (meh) and borealis (also meh) but exotic nonetheless! Both dropped from completing daily milestones
