This quest has an awesome pay off story-wise, in addition to getting the actual gun. Very satisfying overall for me.
To be clear... I suck at PVP. Horribly. And am even worse with Hand Cannons. Check my stats. I only do it when it is absolutely necessary. But even with that I finished the quest to get it and am very happy that I did. Took me maybe 2-3 hours total to get the gun once I decided to dedicate the time to doing it. Yes I lost some K/D in the process (it was bad anyway), but it was so worth it in the end. And I did the entire thing solo. No finding groups with tactics to help each other farm. I wish everyone would give it a try before jumping to complaints. It is ok for it to be challenging. It makes you better, and makes it feel even more rewarding when you get it.
Happy Hunting Guardians.

For those struggling with hand cannon kills, I got it done on my first game with using the crimson. As soon as you see a player enter the area, run to the edge of wherever you are and scan for the red glowing person. Simply close the gap but not enough where the enemy can melt you with precision kills since the have armor, you have 2 options, use the fighting lion for a quick shield break and then use the crimson to get the kill which also grants you health regen. The other option is to use the bow and land a headshot and then follow up with crimson. If the person has sleeper, flank them and pray they don’t see you

1 Reply13 Gambit games...1 invader kill with HC. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. I'm terrible at PvP...can't kill to save my life haha

12 RepliesEdited by What I Look Like: 9/12/2018 3:10:35 PMI went in paying too much attention to how many people were having trouble with it. I was expecting to be irritated by the PvP and Gambit parts. Got both done in 2 matches apiece. Then I remembered unlocking Thorn and the Chaperone. Realized Ace of Spades was a cakewalk tbh. Edit - AND I forgot about First Curse lol. Wow that shit was horrible.

Edited by countycheese770: 9/12/2018 10:38:54 AMMaybe some day I’ll go for it, but getting hand cannon kills on invaders is nearly impossible for me, either team is killing them (which is good) or I’m NOT killing them and getting killed in the process (bad). I use PVE weapons and not into the whole invader thing, reminds me too much of crucible (meh) which I only play for my milestones. But who knows, maybe one day.

TO ANYONE DOING THE GAMBIT HAND CANNON KILLS, HERE’S WHAT TO DO: *Any hand cannon really but overcharged sturm will be the easiest. *Keep an eye on the bar when your enemy has enough motes to pass any of the 3 sections because they each result in an invasion portal. *Clear out leftover adds so when the invader spawns you see them on radar or not to give you a good chance of finding them quickly *Use any form of suppression (preferably tether) to prevent them supering *Shoot them in the face repeatedly with your hand cannon

2 RepliesYea, I NEVER find the invader. I've been stuck on 1 of 5 for days. I can easily go in portal and take out 3 or 4 without overshield but when I get invaded........never find them. I normally die to them without ever seeing anyone.
-
29 RepliesMy biggest issue is the 5 gambit kills. I cant knock the overshield down fast enough. Any tips for this?
-
Make sure that while you’re doing the quest you listen to Ace Of Spades by Motörhead on loop the whole way through.

Edited by Sweet Lew 88: 9/12/2018 8:11:31 PMNice job on the solo grind. I had a team and we'd locate and team shot the invader with hand cannon. Took me maybe 10 matches.
-
If you need it, you can always see if a tether hunter can help you with the gambit kills. My friend did that
-
1 ReplyWhy should I get the gun of the person that died? Clearly the gun is trash and the reason why that person died in the first place
-
2 RepliesIf it could be obtained through PVE equivalent steps, I certainly would.
-
Will I'm not to hot at PVP either, but some tips on Gambit- recognize if you have a more hoarder on your team, always look around cause a guardian glowing red isn't to tough to miss,if you hear a super triggering make sure you are 1)looking around 2)go lone wolf if a invader have used their super they are going to area where most teammates are at and 3)don't hoard notes. I did it in 9 or 10 matches.

I used to try to complete quests for weapons or bounties that required pvp, but it tanked my kd so bad and was so unenjoyable that I stopped doing them. Unlike other games, Destiny pvp has never played well for me. No Ace of Spades for me, I guess.

14 RepliesI hope that the idiot that designed this quest line gets sacked. Enough with the elitist bullshit
-
1 ReplyI’m grinding to get the Luna’s howl now. It’s gonna be a while...
-
Finished the whole thing Monday night from.start to finish in a few hours. I found it enjoyable.
-
2 RepliesCan anyone advise as I've not been up to date with this activity, is it kill count only killing invaders or does it count if you invade and kill with a hand cannon.
-
3 RepliesI thought it was alright, but after that much work the gun should be much better. It's just a hand cannon with good range that has firefly. Would much rather see an exotic HC that has a perk like Gaviton Lance. Such a shame for a special gun like that to be mediocre.
-
Just got it last night, its like Hawkmoon and Fatebringer's love child. Used Better Devils with range finder for the invader kills. Crimson for the precision kills.
-
4 RepliesIm happy not having it. Dont want the gun, dont care for the gun, so why waste time doing something tedious for somwthing i dont want right now.
-
10 RepliesWrong, (your opinion) but like a-holes everyone has one. Everyone should NOT complete the Ace Quest - why - because not everyone has the ability to find, track and shoot a 3 health bar opposing guardian with a simply worthless hand cannon. You did it in 2-3 hours, congratulations, you're special. I had a clan mate that took over 4 hours to get just the gambit kills done. I'm not even bothering to attempt it since I don't use H.C. at all since they suck in sum total. Can't kill shit with it, not worth using, give me a scout, pulse, auto. Good Day Guardian.

11 RepliesThere is just so many advantages given to the invader before you take into account the subclass and weapons they are using. They get way point markers placed on every enemy player, they receive an over shield, and most of the time they are invading during a time when the other team is pre occupied with killing the boss or adds. Had a match where the invader was using golden gun and wiped out my team (using six shooter) then on his second invasion used the sleeper. I am suppose to some how get past all that and get into range with a hand cannon and get a kill before I am destroyed or the other team mates get a killing shot. There is challenging and then there is masochistic, this step should have been removed.

1 ReplyNah, I'll pass. Completing it gives the indication to Bungle that I approve of shit like this which I don't. If it was some random drop then sure, I don't care about the steps. Having it basically be the campaign reward, which last I checked is a PVE activity, is idiotic. They either should have just given the gun outright to fit in with the end of the campaign or had a nice PVE only quest like Sleeper and polaris had. Throwing crucible and gambit (the pvp portion at that) into it was clearly done for Bungle to try and pretend more people have an interest in those modes when actual reality shows otherwise. Gambit's already become somewhat of a dud for player activity and crucible is Bungle's "fetch" (Mean Girls reference) that they just can't accept isn't going to happen and become popular. Thankfully, I don't have much interest in using my exotic slot on a handcannon for stuff I do in the game so it's not a big loss that I will be missing out.

I agree. Everyone should go into gambit and use hand cannons only (despite sucking at them) when I invade your area. I enjoy very much getting those 4 kills and denying all those motes :)
