During the Vietnam War, American troops often carried the cards with them and put them in the mouths of deceased Vietcong soldiers as a form of psychological warfare. Bicycle card company would often ship crates full of thousands of cards to Vietnam. On a few occasions, to empty Vietcong holdouts, they would drop hundreds of cards onto the area and the very superstitious VC would abandon their posts and retreat into the jungle. The ace can also be a good luck charm and is very handy in poker as part of the "Dead Man's Hand." As you can see, there is a lot more symbolism to the ace of spades than meets the eye.
