If you havent heard the news yet, our pals over at Bungie have acquired another studio to work on a brand new franchise that will exist alongside the Destiny universe.
NetEase will be working with Bungie to create new worlds, and a new universe.
It seems that step 7 on their checklist for world domination probably wont happen with Destiny alone, and they know this.
So what does this mean for Destiny? Well as Bungie grows from their profits on Destiny, they will become a studio akin to Blizzard; upholding multiple communities at once with different dev teams on each project.
This would mean that Destiny will be seen out until its end, and support could follow for years afterward.
And hopefully we start to see more meaningful content for Destiny in the time being.
So what could this new IP be?
Well we already know Bungie wants to make open world games.
We also know that despite their story telling efforts, Bungie is best at three things: PvP, amazing visuals, and epic music scores.
So the new IP could very well be an open world pvp centered frag fest of epic proportions.
We know the studio works best with sci-fi themes, and we know they have amazing ideas that just didnt work out in Destiny as of yet.
And depending on when this new IP launches, it could easily take inspiration from other popular game genres at the time.
This new IP means Bungie can use Destiny money to build a new engine, and possibly fund dedicated servers.
All in all its a fresh start for the studio, and Im excited. Destiny is still growing and getting better by the month. But it isnt the end all-be all.
Maybe Bungie really just needs an entirely fresh creative start using all of our feedback to achieve the impossible.
Tldr; someone took the time to write their thoughts. The courteous thing to do would be to read them. :)
