Cayde's trusty hand-cannon is both named after his son and the infamous death card, but the role of the ace in combat is often overlooked.
During the Vietnam War, American troops often carried the cards with them and put them in the mouths of deceased Vietcong soldiers as a form of psychological warfare. Bicycle card company would often ship crates full of thousands of cards to Vietnam. On a few occasions, to empty Vietcong holdouts, they would drop hundreds of cards onto the area and the very superstitious VC would abandon their posts and retreat into the jungle.
The ace can also be a good luck charm and is very handy in poker as part of the "Dead Man's Hand." As you can see, there is a lot more symbolism to the ace of spades than meets the eye.
Edit: No, I'm not saying Cayde's gun references the Vietnam War. I just wanted to share this cool fun fact about the ace. I'm not overthinking anything.

I read a book awhile back... an anti-terrorism operative is sent to kill Jihadists who have become sleepers in the US. He poses as a psycho serial killer and leaves aces of spades by all his victims.

oh really

You mean we could’ve won the Vietnam war just by dumping millions of playing cards all over em? Who needs a rifle when you got a royal flush!

2 RepliesEdited by soodn: 9/7/2018 3:57:08 AMIt's literally a hand cannon named after his son, I don't think the people behind making weapons were basing Cayde's hand cannon off the Vietnam war. Cayde was also addicted to gambling before becoming an Exo and later a guardian.

3 RepliesYou're straight up wrong about the gun being named after Ace. I know so because it isn't Cayde's damn gun, its mine. Like how Shaxx took my Raze-Lighter.

I was always curious why in a few areas you see troopers with the card on their helmet
-
Yeah and how did that work out for us again?
-
The Ace of Spades is also a part of The Dead Man's Hand.

3 RepliesParatroopers in WW2 from the 101st airborne had spades ♠️ on their helmets
-
So did they produce full decks of the Ace of Spades? Like James Bond's Tarot cards?
-
It's about his son.

8 RepliesI think Cayde's character is more focused on the western, poker-playing gambler character. This is a neat detail and I'd never thought of it but I'm not sure if it really applies to Cayde.

Also a kick ass Motörhead song!

Also, a reference to the Iraqi Most Wanted Cards, a Bicycle Playing Cards deck during the Iraq War where the face cards were the most valuable targets. In the game Mercenaries, they repeated this by having to remove North Korean most wanted officers (52 of them) from the area dead or alive. The number one target was always on the Ace of Spades, which on the Iraqi Most Wanted cards was Saddam Hussein.
