Hey so as the title says I believe the taken are the most boring enemy both gameplay and lore wise however I’d be opened to have my mind change. On paper they sound kind of cool enemy races that have been reshaped by the darkness into these weird fourth dimensional creatures, that seem to ignore the laws of physics. But in game and from what I’ve seen lore wise they are so -blam!-ing boring and don’t make any sense whatsoever.
So can anyone shed some light and change my mind or am I just right, like even though the splicers were just reskinned fallen they were still pretty cool lore wise.

Eh. I hate the Cabal more. Those guys are just "generic military race that enslaves everything the come across". The Cabal enemies are also kind of boring. Just big, slow, dumb brutes that can jump. Psions are the only cool Cabal on my opinion.

Edited by CIKiller: 9/9/2018 3:11:09 AMEach type of Taken(except thrall, they just abuse their teleportation) has its own, unique gameplay mechanic that the players have to play around. While this annoys the player, that is the purpose of those abilities. Also, they are the closest thing to the darkness that we have fought, and nearly drove the Vex to extinction. Dare we forget...
KEKSIS, THE BETRAYED!!! SYLOK, THE DEFILED!!!
No need, you're right. The Taken have the unfortunate problem of their lore being about whoever rules them; Oryx and Savathūn. They have no free will so they can't be independent of each other, they just do as they're told, so they can't have any unique or well known members. Simply put, the best thing about the Take is The Taken King. In the game, they WERE unique and fun when they first came out, but now they're the only race that didn't change in D2. Every other race got new enemy classes; Fallen got Wretches and Marauders, Cabal was completely updated along with the new War Beasts, Gladiators, and Incendiaries, and even the Hive got new models to show their relationship with Savathūn. The Take haven't changed one bit in the 2 years we've played against them.

I’ve always liked Taken. They are mere shadows of what is coming for us.

I'm in the minority here: the Taken are my second favorite enemy to slay. Followed by the Hive.

3 Repliesthe Taken are not meant to make sense (like math) they are boring gameplay wise but are pretty -blam!-ed up in the lore, imagine having your freewill ripped from you and serve the wretched hive until you are killed by a guardian
-
They have good lore, but yeah they’re just a pain in the ass to fight
-
I find the lore behind the Taken both terrifying and astonishing. Gameplay wise however I hate them to their core. Taken Psions most of all.

I dunno, I guess all my time in D1 driving around on Mars looking for mats for that stupid exotic quest..... I'm kind of a cabal hater.

1 ReplyI find the taken the best faction of enemies, they are a complete mystery. They represent the darkness more than any other faction
-
5 RepliesI think the Taken lore is cool. Thar being said, the gameplay they provided in D1 may have made me hate my life.
-
Easy precision kills Andddd yeah that’s about it!

1 ReplyDon’t give a shit about changing your mind, let’s just get that out the way. But I agree with the taken being just lame ass enemies. Bungie couldn’t fix the lag in their game so that just made it a part of the enemy mechanics. JK But I can’t stand taken nonsense. Wish they would just go away. Been tired of them since they first showed up.

Have you actually gone and read Taken lore? Go back and read each individual card for each of the Taken, and then head over to the Books of Sorrow.
-
Have you even read taken lore???????
-
They aren't cabal.

I love the Taken! They are so sinister! When I walked into those awoken corridors for the first time I was genuinely creeped out, very tense. And they absolutely nailed the atmosphere of the Ascendant Plains!

2 RepliesI don't think anyone would really disagree with you. A lot of people complained that we weren't getting any new enemy races when the Taken King rolled in, same with the Splicers. My guess is that we figured out that a new faction was improbable around the time of D2's release.
