I got nobody to turn to to resolve this issue, and I've never had so much trouble in my life trying to preorder, preload, redeem, download, or play anything.
I preordered the Destiny 2 Forsaken Digital Deluxe title in a Best Buy store September 1st. Little did I know how much of a problem this would turn out to be. Whatever the reason may be, Best Buy was not given codes to deliver to their customers until 1am this morning.
So I tried to redeem my code - I tried my phone, my computer, and my Playstation 4. This was roughly around 8 - 9am. I tried the code multiple times, across multiple platforms. When I put in the code and clicked redeem, I saw the correct title and information, but when I clicked redeem the second time I was met with an error: "This voucher is no longer valid".
- Called Sony who said my voucher is valid.
- Sony then blamed Best Buy for not activating the voucher code before sending it.
- Called Best Buy, they blamed Bungie's servers.
- I personally blame whoever generated the codes and probably put a timestamp on them.
- I also blame whoever the engineers are who write generic error messages on the website instead of ones that actually help the user resolve the problem and avoid writing or calling customer service.
So I continued trying the code throughout the day to no avail. Server maintenance began, and then it ended. I tried a few more times to redeem the code from the PS app on my phone. This was around 12:45 or 1pm my time. Now something different happens. I put in my code and click redeem to be met with an error immediately: "The prepaid card could not be redeemed. Please try again later."
- Called Sony. Oh boy:
-- First rep has me log in and out, restart the console, sign back in, and try the code.
-- New error is shown on the console: "WC-40378-2".
-- Try the app and website only to receive the same error as before: "The prepaid card could not be redeemed. Please try again later."
-- Agent says from time to time if you attempt to redeem something that's invalid you can trigger a security thing that could lock your account.
-- Another CSR joins the line and looks into my account and confirms I do not have any security restrictions on my account, and that the code I'm trying to redeem is still valid.
- Called Best Buy. Oh boy:
-- I'm told they cannot issue a new code. They cannot do anything more for me at this time.
-- They recommend I come here to Bungie.net, specifically to these forums, to deal with the issue of redeeming my code.
Please someone smarter than me explain why a Playstation Store voucher code, redeemable for a product that should be served from a secure CDN controlled by Sony Playstation, sold and transmitted to me by Best Buy, needs to be troubleshooted by the video game developer?
Regardless - I'm out $80. There's no -blam!-ing hope in sight. If anyone at all has something they can recommend to me to try, or if someone could reach out to me to resolve this I'd pay you another $80.
Seriously. What else can I do?

My issue is resolved now, but I'm afraid there may be others out there having the same redemption issue. Eventually I was told by a manager at Sony Playstation that my account had received a temporary ban for trying my redemption code too many times throughout the day. Which I hope they tune down a bit, because it's obviously a false flag in this case. Redeeming many erroneous codes vs trying the same code throughout the day for the same title / item is vastly different. Sorry anyways... I was afraid if I continued trying that I would only extend the period of my ban. A lot of people have commented on the internet that it could last 24 hours. So I reached out to Sony again and they told me to try redeeming it via another website. Maybe this will help others who have a code that's not working. But I still recommend you try waiting if you started getting the same error code.
Gabriel: Step 1: On web browser, go to Sony Entertainment Network Sign-In. https://account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/liquid/cam/account/giftcard/redeem-gift-card-flow.action Step 2: Sign in with your Sign-In ID (E-mail Address) and Password. Step 3: From Account Management, select Redeem Prepaid Card. Step 4: Enter the code and select Continue.
9 RepliesA Sony CSR says that the store is going through an update at 7pm PST and the code should work then, of course nobody told me this at 1am in the morning to expect a server update 18 hours later that allows my code to work. Also every other interaction with them has been to blame the retailer, or the developer and not take any ownership of the problem. Is everyone else with a code from Best Buy not able to redeem it until 7pm PST? Are these representatives even telling me the truth anymore? I've been trying to redeem a simple 12 digit code for something like 12 hours today. Redeem it. Not download it. At this point I don't even care if it downloaded. I can live with the stress that the download isn't going to work and I'll have to play another day. But I've been stressed for 2 days now about redeeming a code - and getting some confirmation from Sony Playstation that yes you did get my order, yes you do acknowledge I own this thing, and yes your Playstation console will download it as soon as it's available. Yeah I get it I'm -blam!-ing privileged, entitled, addicted, whatever. I took a day off of work man to celebrate coming back to your game. And this thing has just been a major let down. I can't even redeem a code mate, a code. Acknowledgement.
Jenifer: I appreciate the information, please allow me a moment while I check the information. Me: Thank you Jenifer: You're welcome, do you have the physical card for the code? Me: I'm afraid not - the code came to my e-mail address. Me: I do have a receipt, perhaps a number on the receipt might help. Me: Unfortunately I don't think any sort of serial number or information about the little card is displayed on the receipt. Me: ~~~~EDITED~~~~ Jenifer: I do appreciate all information you've shared with me today Mark, I was checking the code and we can see is active and ready to be redeemed. The code will be available once our store update ends which it will at 7:00 PM PST. Jenifer: At the moment there is not any problem with the code and you just need to wait until the store update ends to redeem it and enjoy the content.
2 RepliesSorry, but you must go through Sony and Best Buy. Bungie does not create the codes and does not control them. That is Sony. Best Buy is the retailer that sold you the code. Bungie is not a retailer and cannot help with codes.
