Food for thought on the way new subclass melees are changing things

So, we're getting close to the launch date and also to a very specific monopoly that Hunters have had coming to an end: ranged melee attacks, like Throwing Knives and Smoke Bombs. I say it's their monopoly because, well, even in D1 where Warlocks had a long melee range with Stormcaller it wasn't quite a ranged melee attack where it could be thrown at you from a distance and/or whiff in the process and then the charge used up - it's absolutely annoying when it happens that an enemy dies right as you're about to melee and then you end up wasting your Smoke Bomb. Warlock's Attunement of Fission (Voidwalker), Attunement of Control (Stormcaller), and Titan's new Sunbreaker tree all are described as ranged melee abilities. Both the Stormcaller and Sunbreaker are said to be thrown/flung, while the mannerism of the Voidwalker melee seems rather dubious because it is a "Void explosion at range" which really begs the question of if it's a linear attack like all previous ranged melees or an explosion which is at a fixed point a certain number of meters ahead of you. To add further to this, also consider the likes of Feedback Fence, Synthoceps, Ophidian Aspect, Karnstein Armlets, Claws of Ahamkara, and potentially Wormgod Caress and Winter's Guile. In the case of Feedback Fence you can nail someone with your hammer to get a Fury Conductor stack, Synthoceps boost melee lunge range (so not the range you can throw it) but Biotic Enchanements will boost the hammer's damage while active - Wormgod Caress could also have some interesting uses if the hammer is first used as a finishing strikes and then retrieved. Meanwhile Warlock's have "extended melee range" from Ophidian Aspect, and just how much this will apply to the range of these new melees is hard to say, but Karnstein Armlets certainly become easier to proc if finishing an enemy from range with one of these melees, Claws of Ahamkara will allow you to double up on these, and like Wormgod Caress much the same applies with Winter's Guile. It's starting to look like a very interesting time to be a Warlock or Titan, but for all of us we're going to need to get used to both of these classes being able to throw more than just grenades at us.
