Cayde-7, Bungie history, and fan service.

7 has been Bungie’s magic number for forever. Exos have the number designations. It’s speculated that the number represents memory wipes. In Cayde’s case, I don’t think it’s memory wipes. He remembers Ace. It could be a cumulative total of consciousness swapping to new chassis. Cayde is also the only main character with substance and is, hands down, a fan favorite. He works as a solid pull for players to become emotionally invested in the story. He’s also a fitting way to show progress by retrieving his core and putting him into a new body, whereby he goes by Cayde-7. If it doesn’t go down like that, Bungie missed a HUGE opportunity and it may signal that all is not well with the leadership of our favorite dev house. I don’t think that’s the case. I’m looking forward to Forsaken. Watch and see. Cayde-7 will be a thing.

  • I want to say this is a great idea but first replacing the body will not make him Cayde 7. He was shot in the head and I suspect like with people and most objects with a core processor (I am assuming here to call it that) a bullet right through it makes it dead. He is dead. I hate saying it but without light, another ghost able to revive him, Cayde will remain dead. If bungie were to bring him back they would have to do so very carefully and very meaningfully. Based on the lore Cayde is tied to Clovis Bray, the Exo program, the Vex, and Rasputin. Bungie would need to work with the lore very carefully. All of these things have to tie together, and I just don't know if bungie can do it in a way to make it more powerful than what they did just now. What I want to know is how does this affect the game, characters and vanguard in the long run, how will this work in the story? I am all for him returning but it has to be done right.

    • Even if Cayde 7 is a thing, I honestly don't think it will be as good... Part of what made us all love Cayde was Nathan and his humor. Without him, he's just a shell... They really messed up letting Nathan go.

    • It really annoys me that so many people act like Cayde is the only npc with substance just because of his juvenile jokes, but I guess that's just me being an old man.

      • Cayde 7 isn't going to be a thing. Not to mention exo's don't work like that, and guardians don't work like that. We have seen Cayde's ghost die. So that means his next death will be his last. Then we saw him die. Cayde is gone, and no technology we have can change that. Even if they found an old backup of his memory, and put it in a repaired exo body, it wouldn't be the same Cayde, he wouldn't be a guardian.

      • Cayde's revival would be awful for the story, all of the sudden all the steaks are lost and our motivation is lost. Cayde's death is exactly what the story of Destiny. So don't go around saying that Bungie is making a huge mistake by killing him off because you know damn well that because of this Forsaken will be remembered as the day Destiny's story took a risk

It’s not speculated that the numbers are memory wipes, it was confirmed in Warmind. Bungie has tirelessly confirmed he’s not returning. Story spoilers bellow.
the 4chan leaks showed that uldren is doing what he’s doing to save his sister, killing cayde and then us finding out why uldren is doing it would make caydes death (the characters thrustpoint into the story) completely irrelevant.
+ bungie have confirmed caydes weekly maps are gone.

Please oh god please go read Cayde's Journal pages and Cayde's copy of Treasure Island.
If it doesn’t go down like that, Bungie missed a HUGE opportunity and it may signal that all is not well with the leadership of our favorite dev house.
What you are suggesting would be like a TV show revealing a entire season was a dream. Yea we know how well that works. There are so many more stories to tell, so many other characters to learn about. Time to stop sucking on Cayde's nipples and move on.

        • They said he wont get a new body or anything like that in an interview. Basically said Cayde 7 won't be a thing.
