From a lore standpoint, why don't our guardians talk anymore?
This question has probably already been answered, but I obviously don't know the answer.
Because it's pretty canon that in D2 we're playing as our original guardians in D1, as referenced to numerous times in multiple dialogue sequences.
We also know that other guardians can talk, case in point the vanguard, Ana Bray, the guardians killed in the Savathûn's Song strike.
I guess I would just like some thoughts or a definitive answer on the subject. Have a good reset guardians.

it's lore we don't talk much because when Cayde-6 was dying we said nothing and he acknowledge that it's so strange and inconsistent I want to know.

We screamed so hard at Aksis that we destroyed our voices/voiceboxes

Oryx “took” our voices.

As we know from Kratos, killing gods takes a toll on you. I’m guessing this is a result from killing The heart of the garden, atheon, Crota and Oryx. Also maybe exposure to Taken infestation and maybe ether. Also fiddling with the VoG and the hellmouth. There is a lot of things we have done to consider our loss of voice but killing gods makes most sense because other characters have done stuff we have done but none of them killed gods.

A better question is why only our ghost and sagira talk while we know each gaurdian has a ghost.

5 RepliesI like to think it is to encourage the role play. I find the Creators are allowing a sense of belonging. Instead of labeling what he/she sounds like. Every individual has their own voice and it would limit the quantity of target customers to impose a voice over worldwide protagonists, young and old, all genders and cultures. Also, when a question is left unanswered, your mind automatically creates one. With the available information, which in this case is visual, the brain classifies its relevance and stash it somewhere among the neurons. Some of you may want the next activity to start asap while others dig out the deepest Lore ever... in my case; This way, this Guardian, the Young Wolf, is Me.

1 ReplyIn one of the lore tabs (I can’t remember which one) ghost says something about never hearing of a guardian that talks as little as we do. Most guardians don’t talk much to begin with unless absolutely necessary according to him, but we speak even less. He also states that he can’t read our thoughts very well or at all, and our mental connection is slower to build than any other guardian he’s heard of.

Reason......We called our ghost " little light" Retaliation....he respawns us without our vocal cords every time since then.

Apparently (although it was never confirmed) our Guardian lost its voice after they killed the heart of the black garden... Somehow?

As far as the "lore" is concerned our Guardian isn't mute, just quiet. The fact we never talk is kind of just glossed over.

7 RepliesI would presume that it would be a side effect of the light and resurrections. Think of our mute-ness like a disability. We don’t really know what being resurrected does to the human body, much less immortality and constant resurrections. If anything, I think it also explains other guardians, like Ana Brays sexuality (yes, I’m going there) From what we’ve seen and read, there have been more same sex relationships in the Destiny universe than most games I’ve seen. I believe this to be a side effect of (you guessed it) resurrections. Being revived a whole bunch possibly messes up chemicals and hormones in your body, causing unintended side effects. And let’s not even discuss possible brain damage. How many times have we been shot in the head? Disintegrated? It’s possible being revived could’ve caused a mutation, like cancer. But in this case, we become mute

I had a theory about this awhile back, I think it had something to do with the Dreams of Alpha Lupi and the Heart of the Black Garden.

4 RepliesThe ghost said some line in the Cayde’ stash mission from TTK about how we are mentally connected, so the ghost could be our voice. Of course the fact that other guardians talk just proves this was an excuse to not add a voice actor (and get as much use out of Nolan North as possible).

There's no lore reason, it's just a design choice. Not everything is tied to lore or we'd need a whole heap of it every time they made a patch.

We are all anti-social I guess xD on a serious note though remember on old gen nearly every lobby on any game was full of mic users but now on current gen barely anyone uses a mic any more

I dunno, our last words were just “Don’t think I have a choice.” In the end of D1’s campaign. It’s not like we said anything meaningful in D1, but the inconsistency hurts
