Now this is the kind of D1 grind I am talking about! Love that there is no fireteam requirements (you have no idea how much us solo players appreciate that Bungie) and gives us a solid reason to play crucible even if we have done everything else in the game (I play crucible a fair amount, yet there has been no incentive for me to actually play it... so this is a huge bonus).
Also 5 valor resets is going to keep this out of a lot of peoples hands, as it takes a pretty decent chunk of time to reset even once, especially if you aren't getting win streaks (which most do not due to the 50/50 win/loss algorithm). Only time I have ever got a 5 win streak in crucible was the first week when SBMM had been turned off. Other than that week, the most streak I have gotten to is 2 or 3. And more often than not with SBMM, I do good in one match and get punished with one-sided losses for the next 20 matches (sometimes spanning several days).
So just as long as we still get points for a loss, this is a grind I can get behind. Good work on the quest steps, so refreshing to see this kind of grind and not have any fireteam requirements. You guys are quickly making it harder and harder for me to hold out on preordering Forsaken, as this is a big step forward in so many ways.
Now if you guys could do similar quests (which involve a lot of grind, but perfectly soloable) for lets say, Raid/Trials weapons, then that would be HUGE. As it would mean that people in fireteams can get the gear much faster and easier, but if you want to play solo you can still grind it out and get the same gear (but will require a major time dedication, which will still keep it "exclusive" since not everybody will be able to devote that much time/effort to one quest).

I definitely appreciate quests that can be done solo and you actually progress as you play through instead of relying on RNG. I wish they’d do more of that in PvE. Unfortunately I don’t enjoy the PvP in this game, so this quest isn’t worth it to me.

Exactly, the best way to incentivize me to work towards something is if I am guaranteed an outcome. That way I know exactly what I need to do to accomplish my goal without having to worry about luck or chance. If only more things in life were this way... like college. Getting degrees basically just increases your odds, but is no guarantee of anything. Makes it a bit difficult to get motivated IMO. But man, could you imagine if there was guaranteed specific job placements based on the degrees? I think a lot more people would be grinding through college with laser-like focus and dedication.

As much as the Solstice grind got tedious, the progress kept me going and I actually felt satisfied once I had my armour set. I grinded 50 nightfalls and never had a DFA drop from RNG and that’s just left me quite annoyed and feeling like I completely wasted my time. Progress quests are the way to go for sure. More guarantees in life would be excellent. Only one so far is I’ll eventually be dead...
