So a few weeks after D2 launched I managed to complete the heroic public event on titan that involves the Hive attempting to summon a servant of savathun. If activated the public event spawns a night that looks exactly like Alak-Hul the dark blade from Destiny 1, at first I thought it was a nice little nod from Bungie to old Destiny players but then I started thinking...
What if the abyssal champion is in fact Alak-Hul? Now I understand this is going to be a stretch but hear me out, I currently have 2 main pieces of evidence
1. The abyssal champion looks exactly like Alak-Hul and I highly doubt he had any fans after he tried to kill Oryx
And
2. Alak-Hul might have a throne world
Allow me to explain number 2. If you read Alak-Hul's grimoire you find out that he was Oryx's foster son, he was adopted by Oryx and presumably raised by the taken King. Now all of Oryx's children are acendent Hive and because of this each have their own throne world, it's not entirely unbelievable to assume that Alak-Hul also ascended with his "siblings", not that it matters if he's related to Oryx as other being's outside of Oryx's blood line have throne world's (see Omnigal, the Mindbender, the worm gods Etc).
This would explain why Oryx imprisoned Alak-Hul instead of killing him, he new that it would be pointless and that Alak-Hul would attempt to take the crown again once he was summoned back into our reality. Oryx decided to lock up Alak-Hul and capture his (potentially) only follower that could summon him back from death, Verok.I would assume then that after killing him, Alak-Hul was stuck in his throne world until savathun decided to free/recruit the dark blade. He then hid his name as the Abyssal Champion to avoid any unwanted attention from Guardians.
So that's my theory, again I understand that this is a REALLY huge stretch with very little evidence to support it but I hope you guys enjoyed it. Feel free to tell me your thoughts in the comments below

1 ReplyI don't think the Abyssal Champion is Alak-Hul at all. You can tell that their not the same if you look at their helmet, they're just the same class of knight. And in the Dreaming City trailer, the part where we see the wizard, she is surrounded by 3 axe-knights that are all the same as the Abyssal Champion.

1 ReplyThe only problem i see is that it seems like taking down verok and alak-hul in a simple public event is too easy. I know nokris and xol being little strike bosses is bad but i still think it would be a stretch for bungie to take a strike boss from d1 and another potential strike boss and throw them both in a little public event.

I do kill abyssal demons for abyssal whips mhmm

Just a reskin, the Alak Hul model is also in Forsaken and there are 3 of them seen.

This community man. Keeps finding long lore-induced excuses for what is clearly a reskin...

Thats not a bad theory. The abyssal sorcerer could also be Verok, his mate.
-
Number one evidence against. Bungie likes to re-skin

1 ReplyEdited by Jio: 8/18/2018 2:52:03 AMIt's not impossible, but Alak-Hul was probably not hated because the Hive are just like that. They try to kill each other, out of love.

7 Repliesthere was a Vidoc that stated Alak-Hul was a Darkblade amongst other Darkblades. Though he stood out amongst those elite.

4 RepliesBut there sometimes are two of them. I believe they have different names, but they share one model. They could be a group of which Alak was one. But is definitely not one of these two.
