I earned Redrix’s Claymore queuing solo and I don’t mind...
I don’t mind that a wider audience will have an opportunity at a quest to get a Redrix alternate.
I like that they’re retiring the Claymore altogether. The OG. Of course, emblems are whatever rewards, but I like that we’ll have an emblem that less than 1% of players can have period. Bonus glory points and immediate access to the broadsword. It’d be sweet if the broadsword was energy though, just to have a Claymore and Broadsword equipped at the same time..
Some of the most infuriating moments in pvp came during the climb through competitive to Claymore. But also some of the gnarliest, most epic, clutch moments ever. EVER. And the final kill that put me over the edge (was a 1v1 last man standing in survival) set off the funniest string of hatemail with some poor sap. It was so fitting.
It was truly an enjoyable challenge to overcome. Redrix’s Claymore is just a symbol of that grind to me, and it is my favorite pve kinetic.
So anyway, Bungie offering the new gun as a quest doesn’t trivialize the journey that came before for me. I don’t understand the mentality of I WORKED FOR THIS NOBODY ELSE SHOULD HAVE IT. Guess what? They don’t have it. They didn’t go what you went through. So what. They get a gun with the perks. The journey was still yours. The Claymore is still yours.
I do feel bad for the people who paid $200+ for it. Especially the ones who paid yesterday. I’m guessing there’s no refunds on recoveries in progress. :)

11 RepliesI 100% disagree with dryheave666. Providing a clone to the masses is bad for the game and sews apathy and distrust among players. After being falsely sold on Redrix's exclusivity, why grind for anything difficult in the future if the Devs reliably decide to cave and give items like this to everyone? This move absolutely invalidates the hard work and is a slap in the face to those who have went through hell to obtain the Claymore.

1 ReplyI got the Claymore and I think it is fine. If I want to wave around my PvPenis I can whip it out anytime - others having a similar weapon won’t change that I earned the gun and it won’t take away any elation I felt when I got it. Truth is I hardly use it. Right now Graviton is better.

I agree with everything you said. Everyone who puts in time and effort to get a rare weapon in this game has the same right to own it as the person who just happened to be better at PVP. Straight up. Time for babies to get over the fact that everyone deserves a chance to earn a weapon like this. Resetting Valor 5 times is absolutely uncalled for though Bungie. Smh...

I will get Redrix’s Broadsword so quick that erring the Claymore wouldn’t be worth it. The broadsword is a copy and paste but better. But since you already have it you won’t need to do the quest for it.

Bungie literally had no idea how the matchmaking + losing points + losing streaks were going to make this gun so extremely rare. <9K people have it. The real intent was avid PvPers would all have this gun, but the reality is it's rarer than Strike-based exotic catalysts. Nevertheless, the Claymore ends up being a badge of honor for people with PvP skills, and extreme perseverance. V2, the Broadsword, doesn't change that at all.

8 RepliesThis is so true. You see, I suck at pvp and barely play it. Liked the Claymore? Yeah, looks great! Did I cry in the forums I should have it handed to me? Nope! To all who say "I payed for the game, I'm entitled to all its content", let me fix it for ya: you payed for the OPPORTUNITY to get the content. Sorry for the rant. I imagine these guys playing Nes games, with no checkpoints, no saves, and limited lives and crying because they can't finish it everytime they wish.

13 RepliesI appreciate your viewpoint, and actually respect it. But I think where the problem arises is that it feels like bungie isn't respecting the grind that people went through to get the gun. Now, maybe the quest proves to be a grind itself, but we just don't know yet. Another way to look at it: say you get a huge trophy for winning some kind of tournament or sport. It's flashy, it's unique, it's awesome. You feel pretty good about yourself, and the reward is fitting for the struggling process of getting to that point. But then, come to find out a few weeks later, the other teams that placed below you or did worse in the tournament get the same big trophy, but say a different color or something miniscule. It kind of undermines the value of doing your best and aiming for first place or the award of that. Now, obviously the example isn't the exact same as what's happened here, but you can see the point as to why people aren't happy. That's all I'm trying to get across.

5 RepliesI think it would have been fine had we been told about this a while ago so that people could have made an informed decision as to whether or not the journey was worth it. But in typical Bungie fashion, they don't communicate this with the playerbase until it is way too late.
