How to work for Bungie or a large gaming developer?

Recently got laid off of work. Started looking around for jobs and got curious. How does one get into this field of work? I saw some postings through bungie and thought to myself what kinda things would someone need to get a head in this field? Testing certifications? How can you get accredited testing experience thats not just sitting at home playing all the time?

    • Depends on which sector you want to get into for a start (mail room, coffee maker, play tester, concept artist, music mixer, designer, etc). You may need to go to collage to get the qualification alternatively you can become an indie dev or modder and try to get noticed that way. There are programs like blender that will allow you to build game models and animations. Elder Scrolls and Fallout games come with their own dev kits which would get you started then there's Unreal and Unity dev kits when you feel more confident.

      • With great difficulty. It is undoubtedly something you need to spend a long time working towards. This is not a field you can just jump into when you've been laid off.

      • Best way to start is grassroots. Just start looking at various developer websites, then looking up any relevant emails for their employment sector or a "contact us" page where you can reach out, and start firing off letters saying what you're interested in and what you can offer their company.

      • Well, I think that you probably need to look at various gaming company's careers page. They'll tell you what they're looking for, and what the qualifications are. Without education and experience, it's going to be hard to break in. If I was 30 years younger, or even 20 or 15, I might be tempted to get into gaming as a career.
