All weapons will have 'locked elements' once Forsaken drops. Thoughts?

If you have a weapon that is solar right now you will not be able to make it 'not solar' once Forsaken drops. Also, EP sniper and shotgun will be defaultly set to solar to prevent void damage stacking with tractor cannon. I know D1 was made like this where most weapons the element was randomly generated with the gun. You could grind out shotguns to get 3 of the same shotgun with different elements and some 'old' elemental primaries were this way as well, mainly the PoE primary weapons and the original set of Trials weapons (not raid weapons). Is this system worth going back to? I dunno, I kinda liked the idea of being able to control my elements and not having to worry about getting three of the same gun 'just' to swap elements. Is tractor cannon the reason for this all in the first place? If so... we already have Borealis that will destroy using Tractor cannon and void buffed around (with the perk, and with a bypass reload method) to an equal extreme as the EP sniper or EP shotgun even without 2x damage bullets. Is it worth doing? Is this a fair trade off to the seemingly great amount of buffs we're getting? Will getting the weapon elements we want be random upon attaining them? Or will weapons have 'fixed elements' like we had with fixed rolls? As in, no deviation at all, like the EP weapons. Overall, is this a positive change? Or is this a slightly blunt answer to managing DPS output? I hope there's more to this change than meets the eye. Being able to change elements on the fly was one of the things I actually like about D2. That and the grappling mechanic. I thought they were thee two things you could always say 'at least this is better'. I dunno, it's kind of a bummer, but I don't think it'll break anything. Just be another path to grind if you 'really' want to use one weapon for everything, but that's not a grind that'll mean much if we have a lot of good weapons with balanced elemental diversity. As in... do NOT make 3 void exotics and 35 solar exotics and 23 arc exotics. Please, some conscious thought into the elements being spread out well needs to happen if the players can't actively control elements as much anymore. Remember when only one void exotic existed in the game... for a long damn time... yeah... • This is stupid. Having random elements opens up even more choice. Again it is pointless having more than one of any weapon once you have a good roll. Take badlander it's fixed to arc it's a brilliant shotgun but I have one with rampage and threat detector so I don't need another. In d1 I had 3 of my fav weapons each with different perks. Why dose bungie do this give us a good thing but then find a way to limit us. Like the energy bows I would like to have one for each element but no. It makes no sence to have random rolls but fixes elements it's just bungie being lazy as they would have to do more weapon balancing patches if there was random elements. Unless they take us back to d1. D2 will always half the game it could be. I thought they was going in the right direction but they just gave us the illusion of random perks just to shut us up. But if you look past all that it's the same old d2 that's limiting us to play how bungie want us to play. I hope bungie bring back random elements aswel it seems pointless they do one without the other. It's kinda put me off now as I can't get attached to gear like I did in d1 as I get a duplicate that I worked hard to get and just break it down it's disheartening. I want an arc, solar and void badlander. Bungie seem to take one step forward 3 steps back. Unless they sort it out anthem will blow them out of the water

  • Effectively a "Stealth" buff to Borealis and Hard Light, as the element changing thing will be exclusive to them now. Still I liked being able to make my favorite weapons an element of my choice.

    • I'm totally fine with it. Being able to swap elements was something that was cool, but not really necessary, and I personally usually kept the same element on a given weapon at all times just because I tend to match certain weapons with loadouts based on what I'm doing... when I do swap elements, it's usually on a heavy, and frequently then, it'll be for like one mission before I swap right back

    • Stupid. Instead of keeping the elements as mods, they are looking weapons again. If there aren't any primary elemental weapons this is stupid.

    • short and sweet, knowing what we know, go out and get those weapons you want and put mods on them now to have 3 of each as you want. YES it is worth going back to a rng roll system to actually grind for weapons, mods and that perfect gun for you to play with. and exotics you can not change the element now, so not sure why you make comments about the distribution of them for the future.

    • Hopefully bungie made a system that swaps between versions as they drop. So you never get 4 solar versions in a row before you get that arc or void. Just another way to add to the grind. Which I like.

        • You will now be able to grind out the same gun with different perks and elements. This is a good thing. You can have a god roll and the element you want you just have to put the time in. We are also getting gun mods that matter.

          • Go to the forge and get 3 of the weapons you want. Put 1 element on each. That's what I did

            • Trying not to out the cart before the horse. You are concerned with the singe on the weapons you currently have. Why not wait to get the new weapons and see if there is something you like playing with more? Obviously you do not have a bow, but bowes are coming. What if you really like the bow as opposed to (blank) and run it in that slot. Then the singe for x weapon won't matter. In the mean time, get 3 copies of X and put different singes on each.

Shrug. It’s the way it’s gonna be. I’m not going to any extreme lengths to get one of each flavor of anything. I only use like a dozen of the hundreds of weapons I have now, and by day two of Forsaken I’ll probably have discarded them too.

              • I'll be dismantling most everything when Forsaken drops so really doesn't matter.

              • If random rolls also affect burn types then its no issue really, yes it grinding and tedious getting that god roll, but if its possible then so be it.
do NOT make 3 void exotics and 35 solar exotics and 23 arc exotics. Please, some conscious thought into the elements being spread out well needs to happen if the players can't actively control elements as much anymore
I doubt they'll change the burns on the weapons we have now, so as long as they don't just add arc weapons or whatever, we should be fine :P we know that's not happening, so I wouldn't worry too much ;)

                    • Well it's going to force players to keep weapons around with the right element and less than ideal perks. But this is also really a pve nuisance. Personally, I'd rather have control over the element and fixed rolls rather than random rolls and no control over the element. But you know, the community wanted a grind for everything so I guess this falls right into line with making everything a fricking grind in D2 now.
