What is the lore reason for only being able to equip one exotic weapon and one exotic armour piece at a time. I mean it would obviously be OP if you were able to run Vigilance and Graviton at the same tine but everything else has a reason in the lore, even the Crucible. Even Crucible ranks (Redrix’s Claymore lore tab)!
I know that it balances out the game but I was just wondering if there was reason in game, like it would overload your mind or something.

Just a game mechanic to prevent you from being op
-
It’s probably just a gameplay reason to keep someone from being overpowered

1 ReplyYa'll really overestimate exotics.

4 RepliesEdited by epicperon: 8/9/2018 5:47:12 AMCuz do you really want someone to be running around in the crucible with vigilance wing, graviton lance, AND tractor cannon?

10 RepliesEdited by Sausage: 8/8/2018 11:51:20 AMIn terms of story: Our guardian's body probably wouldn't be able to handle that much power. Like if you wore a full set of ahamkara exotics you'd probably go insane lol. In terms of gameplay: Balance. That's all. It would completely break the game and cause unbelievable chaos lol.

2 RepliesIt’s not just balance. They want people to use legendaries still, or they would be obsolete. Imagine if they also make it so only 1 legendary weapon can be equipped. Rares would also be used much more.

If you have two or more exotic weapons/armor pieces at a time for extended periods of time then you'll turn into Xur. That's why you can preview to see yourself with multiple exotics, but you can't go out with multiple on. That's my headcannon at least.

I would think it’s because of the rarity of these items. Exotics are quite rare (in the lore at least) or are even the only ones of their kind. So having two would be extremely unlikely for a guardian. But in our gameplay reality, that’s of course not the case.

2 RepliesIt could violate the rules of the crucible.

2 RepliesBecause of balance. Could you imagine if in Destiny 1's thorn meta, we could use Thorn, Invective(or some other exotic special), and Ghorn at the same time? Could you imagine if one could equip Vigilance Wing, Fighting Lion, and Tractor cannon all at once? People would lose their minds.

2 RepliesIn Destiny it was most definitely a balance issue... now in D2, the exotics have been pretty bogus until just recently. Could you imagine a Hunter with wormhusk, Crimson and whatever that new exotic is that allows double dodges? Jesus that would be irritating... and REALLY fun if you were said Hunter.
-
Because if we could equip all exotics the darkness would ruin its underwear

Like the other guy said it is probably a gameplay feature and can’t be explained by lore, but if I was to take a shot in the dark, maybe it alters your light to a point where another exotic would change it to a point where you overload on light and the same thing happens to you that happened to Ghaul?
-
2 RepliesI think this is one of the things that’s there as a result of gameplay and cannot be explained by lore.
-
Nothing to do with lore. It’s called balancing the game.
-
2 RepliesI think yeh real cause has nothing to do with lore, but everything to do with balance in PVP. Which is fair - no one would use anything but crimson, lance, and... well, you get the idea. For PVE, though, we need a good reason. If I’d hazard a guess, it would be that a Guardians light can only power one of each. This is why I’m not a writer haha.

It's a balance thing. You don't want to see a Wormhusk hunter with the double dodge Hunter exotic do you?
