You heard it right, there is a massive story in Destiny one just for the first season. as Bungie loses more of its core staff and founders their games become more trash like the programmers and leaders that replaced the good ones. Don't be surprised if a negative comment gets removed by overzealous mod too. They're just riding this cash cow down straight into the dirt eventually people will realize that the ones that created Destiny 1 and the HALO 1 2 and 3 Series are all gone... Anyone agree?
What do you guys think.. bring the salt please i love it

1 ReplyI really wish we got Joseph Staten's Destiny Story.

9 RepliesDestiny hasn't ever had a really good story. Just a series of vague threats that we find and shoot in the face. Also, I'm going to step on a lot of toes here, Halo didn't have a great story either. It was a fine game, but the tale of Master Chief never really gripped me. As far as ranking story content in Destiny. 1.Taken King 2.Destiny 2 3.Everything else.

2 Replies“The main lore guy’ Not “the guy” who created Halo lore? Not “the guy” who’d been working with Bungie for decades? Or had been curating the Destiny backstory well before Halo Reach? Yeah Joseph Staten deserves his initials credited at least 😉
-
In brief Joe Staten and his writing team wrote the D1 story. Jason Jones / Bungie senior leadership didn't like the supercut they were presented with and demanded big changes. Joe left. The story was then carved up and rewritten by some Bungie devs with zero story writing experience (inc Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy). The writing team that had worked with Joe were still there but were put onto writing the grimoire.

Did they not just hire "Bungie hires Myelin Games" to do Lore.

3 Repliesthe original story was just the Traveler as a vex machine that we gotta stop. Don’t see how that could’ve gone any further than vanilla D1, To kill any ascendant hive we need the light and to not get erased from existence we need light. That only leaves the Fallen and Cabal, which the Cabal proved that they can take us on and SIVA without light would have absolutely destroyed us. Sorry not sorry, story for this game would’ve been subpar regardless.
-
You know, if you want a really shitty game, look no further than the original releases of No mans Sky and Star Wars Battlefront 2 (2017) Those were shot shows

Staten wasn’t fired, he left. He did leave a great universe behind though.

6 RepliesIf you mean Joseph Staten, he wasn't fired. He left to work at Microsoft again after he finished writing the story for the Destiny franchise. Which then got canned by some dumbshit who doesn't know good writing from bad and then forced a re-writing of what should have been pure gold into... There's a story? for most people. We can probably still find some, if not a lot, of Statens work in the games, but it's definitely not as much as the rest.
-
The story seems to go that a couple of big dogs at Bungie didn't like what the other big dogs - Staten and the other guy - presented as the 'supercut' for what the story would be like (something about "campy" and "linear" from memory of the story I read). Until the truth comes out (it never will) nobody can say 100% that Staten story wasn't a pile o' shite! You just can't, cos what if it actually was hot garbage? What if those remainers, incl LS, really did save (cough) D1 by salvaging a playable game from the half-finished mess he was given to work with? The Taken King, both in-game and Grimoire, is my favourite story in D1 and the credit for writing is given to Seth Dickinson. I don't know if he is a Staten affiliate or not though.
just playing devils advocate here
2 RepliesIt's literally become fanfiction. I actually used literally in the correct way. You know this because they hired YouTube fans to make the grimoire hard copy... They said "-blam!- it, we aren't original OR able to tell a cohesive story. Hey, random YouTube guy, here's some money, make up our lore."

8 RepliesEdited by SkinPoppeR: 8/1/2018 6:03:43 AMUmmmm Bungie owns Destiny. They could have fired the story writer day one and kept all his work......It was always Bungie’s “property” anyway. You don’t know how Capitalism works do you???? Also bad programmers???? Whut??? Personally I think Destiny 2 is in a real good spot right now. Whisper is the type of quests and activities folks want more of. Crucible is and has been getting much needed proper treatment over the past few months. Not gonna lie the last three weeks I’ve enjoyed matchmaking. Bounties are back, Strikes are challenging, (same can’t be said for Nightfalls), and Eververse isn’t such a scam and somewhat rewarding now. It honestly feels like Destiny 2 finally has enough content and challenges to keep me busy. More so than the year one of D1. On top of all that the summer event and Forsaken are hyping up Guardians. Destiny 2 is in a good place right now.

14 Replieshe was let go due to conflict of visions. He wanted to take the game in a more halo direction, and leadership wanted more of an open world.

Who are you talking about?

Story in Destiny 1 first season?

The real question is why did the person who wrote the Warmind dlc get to keep his job? Seriously, it took over a year to write and script and it practically shit all over the game's continuity. That's grounds for a just firing
