Known Issue: Quickplay Matchmaking

Hey all, Today we’ve discovered an issue with Quickplay Matchmaking. We are actively investigating the depth of the issue, and currently believe that neither connection nor skill are being factored correctly when forming matches. [b]PvP Design Lead Derek Carroll[/b] has more information on our next steps: [quote]With the release of Update 1.2.3, we introduced 6v6 Quickplay with a bug that causes skill-matching and potentially connection-matching to fail in that playlist. This results in much faster – but lower-quality – matches than normal. Our plan for the immediate future is to take no immediate action, monitor the health of the playlist, take notes, and ready a potential fix. We will inform the community with our findings and if we make a change, you will be the first to know (just like this time).[/quote]

  • Pls fix this asap. You admit its bugged. Bugs need fixing. ? An please for the love of destiny stop catering to Damn youtubers who are only playing your game to make money, they are amongst the sadist groups of people I have ever come across in my life.. they are ruining your game a bit more every time you listen to them.   • All of those claiming that matchmaking is the best it's ever been are prime examples of why SBMM in some form needs to be involved. Yeah, it's neat to get 50+kills a game... unless you are on the other end of that equation. All the ego's that are going to be deflated when they end up having to face players of appropriate skill... just wait and see the rivers of salt flow.

    • The current QP team matching favors lumping all stacked groups together, so if you have two 3-man teams and the rest of the players solo-queue, those two 3-stacks are usually grouped together on the same side. THIS IS STUPID, because those 3-man teams are also likely talking to each other on Discord. Most of the solo-queue folks I've seen don't even bother with VOIP. I see the same thing happening for three 2-man teams being lumped together instead of being evenly distributed on both sides based on their KDA's. Whenever I get queued against a 6-stack, one or more on my team drop within the first 30 seconds, thereby lowering any already-slim chance of winning. The backfill players proceed to repeat the process. Watching and taking notes seems like another procrastination move.

      • How many -blam!-ing times have you been told to make it SBMM, how?, really I’ll gladly wait until next week when you should be done counting. Really how is it that you decided to instead of fixing in an issue that took 3 years to fix not a priority, because you rather use players as guinea pigs instead of firing your incompetent testers. Really how did this get by testing?. And if you think letting it stay like that is a good idea clearly you guys are either crazy or just plain stupid. By the way I don’t even care or play pvp anymore, nor will ever again for rewards or milestones, but this is something no player should approve of, this is again 3 years of work down the drain.

          • PvP is even more toxic than normal... I play for the milestone and maybe once in awhile for a change but now when I play I'm getting matched with people far better and it's just not fun...and no I don't want to get better...if I could avoid playing PvP I would but Bungie has made doing this crappy PvP part of the event armour...

            • So basically you’re just making Destiny a game for streamers, screw the actual players right? This game is complete utter trash. I miss Destiny 1 PvP so much. You’d be better off just dumping D2 and rebooting D1 crucible.

                  • So the real question here is who to crap on? Weak players (me) don't want to get whooped in 6's and strong players don't want to sweat all the time (I can understand that). To bad there isn't a way to create a playlist that was SBMM 6's and one for pure CBMM and nothing else. But unfortunately I think the wait times would be too long and to implement an entire new playlist is probably not the easiest thing to do. So why not meet in the middle and have a wider band of SBMM and CBMM. Say we are ranked in groups 1 to 100 (probably more realistic would be 1 to 1000 but keeping it simple) have a 25% band where the lowest player in the match isn't going against someone who is 25 groups higher. I'm sure that some form of this is how SBMM in D2 has worked but I don't have the knowledge to know what gap they were using. What I do know is mud slinging at each other is pointless and me being terrible at PvP getting whooped by good players has made the PvP experience so not fun. I feel for the high skilled players out there who want to have fun in 6's and not sweat all the time but at what expense? It would be like having a NFL team go against a CFL team. Once in a blue moon the CFL team might make a game out of it but 90% of the time it would be a terrible game. Making video games is hard, good luck to the Bungie team trying to balance this issue.

                  • Not having as much fun as I used to when being matched against players around my own skill level. I like to grow and improve and I can with sbmm but this is now matching my 1.5 with 5+ and I’m dead before I’ve blinked. This isn’t fun and all I’m learning is how to turn off PvP...

                    • Here's a new big problem. My team didnt load in for first 2 minutes of a match while the entire enemy team of a 4 stack and 2 stack did. Was fun getting triple capped, Spawn killed by heavy and bagged for a solid 2 minutes before even seeing a team. If your curious I left when the score reached 4 and 27. Working as intended I suppose right?

                      I personally love the close games whether I win or lose. As long as the matches are very close and there is no lag. I’m totally fine with waiting longer for a match to start. I like the competitive feel. I would play the comp playlist but it doesn’t have just Control/Clash like Quickplay does. What would be amazing is if Comp was the exact same playlist as QP with the [i]only[/i] difference being SBMM in addition to CBMM. Us guardians that want SBMM involved are okay with waiting for high quality close matches.

                        heres how i see it. 1. Its dumb that you locked the armour behind a broken crucible. 2. if its that big of a deal, make a new game mode. 3. also, skill, whats that? every one use the same 3 guns and team shoot!

                        This is a slippery slope that Bungie is climbing and essentially a lose-lose situation. Neither side (for or againt QP being SBMM) will be happy with whatever outcome Bungie decides to take. However, I think people are misunderstanding some key information here, and that is (in my opinion) Bungie has mislabeled there game modes. Quickplay SHOULD be primarily if not completely CBMM while "competitive" should be mostly SBMM. Although the word COMPETITIVE should not be used because it gives the wrong idea. Please stay with me as I explain. I believe that QP, as it is now, is how it should be, just wait and hear me out before you complain and disagree. QP should be a "stress-free" game mode (I say that loosely because we all want to win). I understand that the only payers that are going to truly enjoy this are the mid to upper skilled players as the will most likely win the majority of there matches. Competitive should be relabeled as something else, what I have no idea. But the competitive playlist should be primarily SBMM and the playlist [b]beginners[/b] should play in NOT QP. I believe the word Competitive gives the wrong impression. If you are a beginner and Comp is 90%ish SBMM than you are guaranteed to play other beginners. However, the word "Competitive" gives beginners the wrong idea and the way Bungie has set this up doesn't help. The game modes in Competitive should be the same as QP and vice versa. As beginners continue to play in the "Comp" playlist they get better over time and when they feel like jumping over to the more open QP playlist they can give it a go and see how they stack up against the rest of the population and vice versa if you are a mid to upper-level player and tired of being stagnant in your skill, play some "Comp" and hopefully get better. The only true option I believe that Bungie can win coming out of this situation is by giving US the players the ability to CHOOSE our Match Making algorithm. If we had a toggle switch for each playlist giving us the option to choose SBMM or CBMM for each playlist then all will be right in the world... maybe.

                        • I have to say this is unacceptable. I pay a premium for my internet connections and don't want to be playing with those who have crap connections that cause rubberbanding and all the other issues associated with terrible internet. The community has been telling you this for years. We don't want to have our game experience messed with due to poor quality connections. put those players together to enjoy the game at the level of internet they have and leave the rest of us to play against good or bad players fine.. but not with poor connections.

                          • QP is more toxic than usual. While I seem to be doing about the same as before, there are a LOT more lopsided matches, and since I'm on the losing team 75% of the time now, the game isn't fun anymore. Losing a control match 150 to 69 isn't fun no matter how well you may do. Especially when I'm trying to get paradox amplifiers, which apparently you don't get when your team loses. BTW, the new meta is the old meta. Crimson, vigalence wing everywhere.
