[PC] Game freezes when loading or mid-game

As title says, sometimes, when I try to go to the Traveler or anywhere, it has a chance to just freeze right as the countdown to warp hits zero. Sometimes it just freezes with a black screen and sometimes with the last frame of the countdown where it hits 0. Or when just loading a cutscene or anything, it has a chance. It recently just happened to me in the middle of competitive crucible and when I logged back on it warned me not to leave competitive games again. The game just freezes, sound still going and everything. When it happens, my friends tell me it says I left the fireteam before I end it in task manager. So it disconnects me from the servers right as I freeze every time and before I can even close the program. It can happen after a long play session or short so I really think it's random. Either way I need to end the game in task manager to end it. Otherwise my game runs perfectly 60 fps and max settings. It never has an error either so I can't tell you an error name, just freezes. I have had 1 broccoli error but that's it, the rest is my game freezing. This has never happened before, I played up through Curse of Osiris and just came back for Warmind and now it's having these problems for some reason. What I've tried so far: - Running game in admin mode - Scan and repaired through Blizz launcher (said no fix required) - Lowered in game graphic settings - Setting above normal priority in task manager - Deleted CVARS file for Destiny - Uninstalled and reinstalled Destiny 2 Specs: GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080 CPU: I7-4790k RAM: 24G Storage: 1TB SSD If anyone can help please, it would be greatly appreciated.

I play destiny 2 through steam and i have had a similar problem. The game randomly freezes then comes good after about 30 seconds. I have a wired ethernet connection, not wifi, i have increased my virtual memory, not to mention the rest of the recommended fixes that are suggested but the problem persists. One thing that has decreased the frequency of the freezes is that if i change to fullscreen windowed mode. This problem doesn't occur in any other game i play on steam so it must be something with destiny 2. I honestly think your devs have missed something when test playing destiny 2 and i think it needs looking over again.

  • I am also getting this issue. Crucible and strikes are really bad for me. This has been happening only since the July update for me.

    • Hey man, do you perhaps run EVGA Precision XOC? I was looking at this thread: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/247318560?sort=0&page=0 This guy uninstalled Precision XOC and his crashing stopped. I was going to give it a try later today...

      • Hi there. Thank you for your report! Since you have already gone through several troubleshooting steps, here are some other steps to try: • Completely uninstall both Destiny 2 and the Battle.net application • Delete the following local cache/settings directories:
- %PROGRAMDATA%\Battle.net - %APPDATA%\Battle.net - %LOCALAPPDATA%\Battle.net - %APPDATA%\Bungie\DestinyPC *WARNING* Deleting these will cause you to lose persisted settings, such as logged in users, keybinds and graphics settings in Destiny, etc. • The directory names above are actual paths that can be used in Windows Explorer. For example, if you enter "%PROGRAMDATA%" in the Windows Explorer address bar, it will automatically take you to C:\ProgramData (default), which is a hidden directory.
• Reinstall the Battle.net app and Destiny 2 Once you've completed these steps, try playing again to see if the crashes still persist. If they no longer occur, great. If they still occur, I will followup with additional steps.

            • I'm having the exact same problem. I've tried windowed, windowed boardless, and windowed fullscreen. I've tried capping frames and nothing has worked. This game is using an large amount of CPU for me for some reason. I usually average 60-70% CPU. The game seems to do exactly what is described above more so when I'm grouped up. PC specs: i7 6700K 3.4gHZ 24GB ram 1080 ti I do have this installed on my HDD, not sure if that is related or not.
