Let's talk about Guardian Con

I'm not sure where to begin as I really wanted to have a fantastic time and the money raised for charity is unbelievably impressive. But my wife and I went to Guardian Con today in Tampa and it was...less than impressive. I understand that this con is still in its infancy and is trying to figure itself out but here's some of my observations. With that said, the line to experience Gambit was so long that we were not able to give it a go. In fact, they closed the lines off several times because it was so long. Cosmo was there and looked to be having a great time while socializing. But the lack of Bungie panels or anything else Destiny related was disappointing. The Bungie store was not really selling anything. If you wanted to buy something, you ordered it on tablets through the regular online Bungie store. Nothing special about the shirts. No Guardian Con logo. Nothing. The lack of a physical or digital program was a bit disappointing as well. I know the schedule was on the GC website but a program with a map would have been helpful. No swag. Not even a goodie bag with advertising materials. Nothing. Not a coupon for Scuf or any of the companies present. No Destiny or GC koozie. Nada. Now lets move on to Gambit. Bungie was very organized and professional. The PC setups were fantastic looking and the game itself was running magnificently. From what I could see outside the barrier. But there we just not enough banks of PC's available. There should have been three times the amout of stations. Gambit was obviously the big draw and it was a huge letdown to miss out. I really hope Bungie continues supporting Guardian Con and I also hope the staff running GC steps up their convention game. Anyone else have an experience, good or bad, from Guardian Con?

I had a decision to make, either go to GuardianCon or go to FFXIV fanfest later in the year. I decided that if I couldn't get my tickets to fanfest I would go to GuardianCon. Barely got my tickets 4 minutes before they sold out after immediately getting into the queue for it. So happy I had great luck and even snagged a room in the Rio before they sold out of rooms. I really wanted to go to GuardianCon but again like you stated the convention is in its infancy. Meanwhile for me FFXIV was more exciting because they had meet and greet with your world server, have enough PCs and PS4s for everyone to not only login to at the convention but also a personal realm for us to play in. They give players challenges and if we clear them we get famous "I Beat" T-Shirts, they have a VR set up to have us actually play as our characters for 45 minutes. Finally they have thier own band playing some of the best gaming music you ever heard plus a patch notes show for the next patch as well as every other year they announce the next big expansion. So excited to be going.
