I just got the chest plate, and the exotic perk says it gives you another knife. That’s it. Could someone tell me what it does besides make my character look like he should be in Slytherin? Thanks

With solar middle tree using gamblers dodge ophidia spathe is a beast. 1. meele ability does good damage on hit 2. also does gradual damage over time, 3. after hitting someone with your melee ability your weapons do more damage to them, and last but definitely not least while enemies burn it recharges your dodge ability fairly quickly. With ophidia spathe equip you get two knives per dodge (assuming you have gamblers dodge equiped), you basically have unlimited throwing knives that give you a bunch of bonuses damage wise as well as having a fast charging dodge ability for getting away. I was looking at the stompees because I'm running a mobility build with the MIDA combo anyway but this exotic rivals if not beats out the stompees if you're using solar middle tree and gamblers dodge, that's saying a lot. Wanted to make this post because I saw a lot of people commenting that the exotic was useless or a waste of an exotic slot but in reality with the right build I think it is one of the best exotics for the hunter class.

1 ReplyIt gives you shards.

Gives you two knife charges. Two throwing knives. If you run gunslinger a lot, it can be a nice... hmm, build isn't the word because we don't really have those words. But if you are a good aim, then you can run that chest piece with the ability dodge that gives your melee back when dodging near enemies, and it'll give you back both knives. Seems underwhelming at first, but knives pair well with Hand Cannons or SMG's or what have you. You could even run bottom tree if you're a really good shot because it gives the knife back to you with precision kills. TLDR; it's for gunslingers that like throwing knives. You could basically always have a throwing knife if you spec'd right.

That's destiny, and the playerbase, for you though. Not that I can't understand when things like orpheus rig exists. Like what the hell, only when fighting small numbers is it a questionable choice. Oh and I wonder how it will do with the new gunslinger subclass.

It wastes an exotic slot.
-
Its a bad exotic with no real value. D1 youcould just spec for 2 knives. D2 steals d1 perks to create a trash exotics.
-
Provides an extra throwing knife for your Gunslinger. It does nothing for an Arcstrider or Nightstalker.
-
should have just left the ahakaram grasps the same from D1 where you got two melee charges, not just an extra knife, and the chance to reload your weapon on melee hits. then it would have been nice if this new chest piece worked like the ophidian's the warlock had in D1 where it makes you reload everything faster.
-
You have to want to use it. It’s not an exotic that you need to excel. I like it for strikes with lots of adds. Or Crucible when I feel like working on my aim. It’s a style choice as much as anything. I likes it, personally.

Isn’t it some sort of spanking tool?

5 RepliesIt is a junk exotic, quite a few in D2, I would love to meet the person who designs/decides on the exotic perks, I have a few words of wisdom for this person.
-
Yeah, every melee charge gives you two knives. In PvE it synergizes really well with gunslinger’s bottom tree, Way of the Sharpshooter. If you can get precision kills with your knives then you’ll never need to wait for cooldown again. Now if only throwing knives could actually do damage in PvP....
-
1 ReplyGives you another throwing knife. Honeslty I'd go with raiden flux instead. In rare cases will you need another throwing knife
-
It has its uses, but wait till "way of a thousand cuts" is available and it will really shine
-
2 RepliesGives you a butter knife
-
I wish it gave a 10% chance to get a OHK Throwing Knife.
-
When I first read the description, I was excited because I thought just maybe, you got to throw two knives per charge, or activation. Something unique and different. Plus it would have been twice the damage. But then I got it and realized that it really only gives you an extra melee charge. No idea why they worded it like they did. Overall, a very disappointing exotic. Haven't used it since.
-
Just got this exotic myself the other day and at first it was 'cool', but after using it for a bit - I remembered why I don't care for the Gunslinger we've gotten with Destiny 2. With the in-coming update, I'm going to use it to infuse my Lucky Raspberry since they're getting some 'loving' but may end up with more shards. Although I do like how it looks, just a shame that it's a little underwhelming for an exotic.
-
Remember in D1 when Gambler's Dagger was an option in the skill tree? I was happy to see it return on this exotic but at the same time I feel a bit cheated 🥛
-
2 throwing knifes per charge so better than other exotics that give you an extra melee or greandr but still not "exotic" enough
-
2 RepliesThat's about it. D2 Exotics are lame.
-
4 RepliesI don't understand this exotic, it is so lame. Why couldn't it do something cool like give you 10 throwing knives to throw.
-
Just another exotic that gives a perk that used to be selectable on the skilltree. Super.
-
Provides light and/or legendary shards!
-
Virtually nothing. Knives are terrible in this game with reduced AA and awful damage in PvP . The explosive knife is a little better, but ultimately useless.
