M&K adapters connect the M&K to your controller, not the console directly. When your press a key you are telling the M&K adapter to digitally press a button on your controller for you. Although any hardware that is not Microsoft branded is banned in the Xbox TOS, people use third party controllers all the time and never get banned. M&K adapters are just a different (and better) third-party controller. People seem to frown upon M&K adapters because they give you an advantage, which is accurate... but don't third-party controller's features (Ex. paddles, hair triggers NOT software mods) provide a comparable advantage as well? Considering that a solid M&K adapter (Xim4 is what a lot of people recommend) is often less costly then a third party controller I don't think it is fair to frown upon a cheaper option, which is accesible to more people, and consider a more expensive third-party controller acceptable. I used the Xbox elite controller for 2 years and it significantly improved my Destiny 2 PvP ability (most people can't jump and aim simultaneously on stock controllers) and after switching to PC I can confirm that M&K is even a step above that. TLDR: you will not get banned for using a M&K adapter. People whine about M&K adapters; they will be sad when the next generation of consoles natively supports M&K and they realize how nonsensical they were. M&K is THE BEST type of controller for fps games, so you should learn it ASAP. Protip: DO NOT get a wireless adapter, I tried one and it sucked :)
