Mara Sov = Savathûn? (Really, Really Spinfoil Edition)

Mara Sov, Queen of the Awoken. Savathûn, Hive God of Trickery. Not too much in common, right? Well, let’s look a bit further into this. So, let’s start with what we know. Uldren is at the head of the -blam!-fest that is the Skorn, which are basically Fallen zombies. There is a new endgame location called “The Dreaming City”, where there are -blam!- tons of Taken and supposedly a gateway to the Ascendant Realm.
Just for organization, this will be in bullets, that way I’m not just all over the place.)
*puts on spinfoil hat* Savathûn is Mara Sov. •Savathûn is the Trickster, no matter how crazy it may sound, she could be anybody. •Mara Sov calls Eris Morn her “Hidden Friend”. Eris helps us to kill Crota. Mara Sov attacks Oryx, resulting in the destruction of the Awoken, and fakes her own death. She calls it “All part of the plan”. Eris goes on to help us kill Oryx. Killing Oryx and Crota would help Savathûn’s personal agenda, not having other branches of Hive to compete with. She could also acquire the power to Take from Oryx. •There is no guarantee Eris is friendly. She was in the Hellmouth with Hive for years, and could be corrupted by Darkness. Savathûn, being the trickster, would want to have an influencer in our borders. Savathûn communicates with Eris through Eris’s “Rock”. Eris says in a The Taken King cutscene that the rock “hasn’t spoken since Crota fell” and that it “speaks again” because Oryx has amassed the Sol system. Who would know immediately when Crota fell and where Oryx is? Savathûn. •Eris is off doing shit with “Mara Sov”, or Savathûn. At the end of Destiny 1, Eris leaves the City. At the beginning of Destiny 2, there are Taken of Savathûn. Us killing powerful Hive for Eris helped her collect data about Taking, which she left with and took to Mara/Savathûn. •Savathûn is pulling the strings from behind the scenes. In one of the gameinformer articles, Bungie says that a voice is calling Uldren to the Dreaming City. Last time we heard of a voice calling Uldren, it was Mara Sov. •The Ascendant Realm in the Dreaming City is one of Savathûn’s bases of operations. There are Savathûn Taken in the Dreaming City. •An Ascendant Realm obviously implies Hive/Taken. •The Fallen Skorn look like Hive. Resurrection implies Hive Necromancy. There are some Skorn that look like Cursed Thrall. There are some big Skorn that look exactly like Ogres. There is a Baron that looks like a Hive Knight, with a similar looking head and a boomer. This Baron comes out of a Hive portal. •There is a Baron that is in charge of the Grasp of Nokris, and is part Hive, named “the Gravetide Summoner”. Nokris was a Hive Necromancer. The Grasp Of Nokris on Mars are said to be communing with Savathûn. •Savathûn would be able to influence Uldren to create the Skorn. He would think Mara Sov is his sister, but she is actually a Hive god. •Bungie says there is a massive secret in the Dreaming City. This would be that Mara Sov is Savathûn. •Bungie has not confirmed the return of Mara Sov. When asked about Uldren, Mara, and Variks, they only answered for Uldren and Variks. They didn’t answer for Mara Sov because she isn’t returning as Mara Sov, but instead as Savathûn. •Mara Sov’s “Plan” is to take over all races. The Hive, Taken, Awoken, and now Fallen through the Skorn *promptly rips off spinfoil hat* Holy -blam!-ing shit that was long.

  • I don’t think they are one in the same but it’s possible Savathun is pretending to be Mara so that Uldren does her bidding. The real Mara will return D3 as the space pirate that Bungie already talked about/leaked some time ago.

    • Well in the voice-over to the end of the Taken King campaign... Which, "My Queen" is Eris referring? Or is that the Queen's dialogue, "You and I know how this will end..." Never really completely understood that ending.

      • Meh, the big plot twist for Bungie is that Mara/Savathun is lesbian.

        • This actually isn't that bad of a theory. In the BoS, Oryx states that during one of their many wars against many races, Savathûn and her minions did infiltrate the enemy to destroy them from the inside. And she has been jealous of Oryx since he became the Taken King, it would make sense for her to want to kill her brother permanently and claim the power for her own.

        • It could be true. The hive consider vex to be more dangerous than gaurdians. Maybe that was why she helped us get into the black garden.

        • Yes there is a massive secret in the DC, it’s that there’s a portal connected to the Ascendant Realm and Savathûn is coming there. Your whole theory hangs off of Mara calling Eris her “Hidden” friend, from what I’ve read. Mara calls her that because they are both part of Ikora’s clandestine group called the Hidden. Remember, Eris was a Guardian. She’s helped us kill a GodKing. She’s friendly

          • Pretty sure that the Dreaming City houses an Ahmakara. The raid is called the Keep of Voices. Ahmakara make people hear voices(read the exotic lore from D1 + stuff) And Bugie also said that there's a dragon inside the raid itself. HMMMMMMM

https://commons.ishtar-collective.net/t/identity-of-mara-sov/298/6 Actually this was a pretty popular theory when the Taken King came out. There’s a lot of evidence to support it in the grimoire. Mara Sov/Savathun may have created the Awoken. But remember Bungie can completely ignore the grimoire.

            • I doubt it highly. Savathun was a Proto hive who existed eons ago. Mara Sov is Awoken, who as Asher Mir points out, are converted from humans. Way too much of a time gap between the two.

Its an interesting theory, but its as silly as the theory that Hawthorne is the exo stranger.

I made this comparison and linked to another guardian’s additional thoughts on the topic almost a year ago: Mara Sov is Savathun The original poster, “Flywheel”, introduced this theory in 2015...

                • But savathun existed before the collapse which means the awoken didn't exist yet. She would probably look like a huge hive wizard too. This theory is just going too far away from any logic.
