Look up from the hymnal, look 'round at the faces Of families closing their eyes We're taking Communion and passing the offering hat Around at the same time I reached for the hat and take all the cash And slide it into my ragged coat sleeve And leave in its place a note to explain All of the reasons that stealing has led me to leave If there was a worthy cause for to give to May I be so bold as to say The givers not knowing where their money's going Is as sinful as throwing away Stained glasses shine on my red wine And the sweat of my brow drips to my shaking knees A small sacrifice to benefit one man's journey Away from America's seas Sweet, sweet sigh of relief, sweet, sweet oh Baltic Sea Sweet, sweet sigh of relief, sweet, sweet oh Baltic Sea Sweet, sweet sigh of relief, sweet, sweet oh Baltic Sea Nobody here knows my name Call it right or wrong I bought my ticket just the same
Edited by TheArtist: 7/5/2018 8:02:33 PM1. Money is not the Root of all Evil. The LOVE of Money, and what it represents (Power, privilege, etc...) to the exclusion of other values is the Root of All Evil. 2. They ask for money in Church because the Church has to exist in the real world, and has to pay its bills. Pay the mortgage on the land and building. Pay its employees (including the clergyman). Pay for its utilities and upkeep. In addition to funding any programs or other activities that the church sponsors. In WELL-RUN churches, there is a Board of Trustees who oversee the church's finances and make sure that the money collected is put to proper use. My father used to be one of the Trustees in his church until there was a "falling out" with the minister at the time, who was deliberately trying to marginalize the Trustees so that he had sole power over the church's finances. (Which is just asking for a corruption/embezzlement problem). Which is why my Father was having no parts of what the minister was trying to do, until his health finally gave out on him. But in protest---to the end (my dad)---he refused to have his funeral service at the church as long as this guy was still the minister.

Pope Francis: “So they can burn it, removing its sin from this earth!!!” *pope laughs maniacally as he throws $10,000 into a pit of blue fire.

Most churches don’t follow the teachings of Jesus.

1 ReplyChurches ask for money to support missionaries and travelers to spread the gospel. A good amount of “Mega churches” such as Joel Olstien and others, ask for “donations” that go right into their pockets. If you have a church that directly asks for donations for missions and help around the world or support for a family that might be doing missions work then that’s good. It’s not greed.

If money is the root of all evil, then Adam and Eve did not fall from God's grace for disobeying Him and eating the forbidden fruit.

4 RepliesProbably because it's not... the original bible quote is "For the love of money is the root of all evil".
