If it's any consolation, you're basically doing the olympic games for Calus and he tests you with his robot so he can see if he trusts you to tell you about the 'Outerverse' which is where the Traveller came from I can't say there's much reason or rhyme behind anything else

  • I'm actually okay with that concept of doing a bunch of challenges for Calus, but, did he build and put together all that stuff just to test us? Why does the Leviathan even exist? Does he regularly test fellow Cabal for various reasons? Those holes in the gauntlet don't seem particularly big enough for them to jump through...but lets just say the answer is yes - I'm okay with it, but there are still parts of the stages that need better reasons for existing. The shadow/void/big Calus head room is quite bizarre, the shooting of skulls he spits out of his mouth... Pleasure gardens and the goal is to destroy some purple lights... And of course the wipe mechanics and revive limits which don't make sense at any stage. More could definitely be done to these challenges to give them purpose within the location and the bosses we're fighting toward.

  • Um from what I know, it was meant to basically test his special body guards. He'd let them invade his ship, and if they made it to him to kill him (obviously his robot) he'd just strike a deal with them and they'd join him as his top guard. Those same special bodyguards you end up eliminating in the story mode (WITH NO REFERENCE WHATSOEVER) And even cooler, if you stick around on the Level where you hide from the Sun, you can find ANOTHER special assassin that Calus owns. It feels like they had intended to tell a much better story involving them, but then only had a year to pump the content out Calus is essentially Rhas Al Ghul mixed with Odin
