Raids need mechanics actually tied to the Destiny lore/story

Jumping through hoops, standing on plates, platform jumping in specific order, charging vex skulls, charging orbs, shooting arrows, skulls, dogs howling too long results in team wipe, someone being dead too long results in team wipe... Is it just me or would anyone appreciate these raids a bit more if their "mechanics" had some more meaningful purpose and relation to the lore/story of the locations and bosses involved rather than existing purely for the sake of needing mechanics? I'm not asking for cutscenes and loads of dialogue to explain away every raid encounter, nor am I asking for all stages to be reduced to simplistic kill-the-bullet-sponge-boss encounters, just that every encounter (and our need to complete it) makes sense with the location and what's going on in the story with the characters. For example, why are any of these encounters on Leviathan present at all? In EoW, what's the point of all the rising and falling platforms? Why is skull charging a thing? In SoS, when the Cabal are in actual combat with enemies, do they have to go through this ridiculous orb charging process to fire their weapons? What's the purpose of that room for the Cabal? I just feel like these encounters and mechanics can be done in a much more creative way. Some minor changes here and there can give these encounters purpose within the game lore. How about the way in which we access the raids? For me, Leviathan and the lairs don't even really feel like they exist in the Destiny 2 story because there is such a lack of lore behind it, and it's so separated from the patrol zones/planets. It's just something you load into and do. I really liked how with Vault of Glass and Crota, the entrances were semi-present in the world, giving them some sort of physical connection to the Destiny story. Thoughts? Corrections? Things I obviously missed and don't understand about the story? Happy to hear it all.

  • Totally agree. I think we're going to see a lot of that correct at least as far as it tying into the world in Forsaken since the raid zone is going to be for individual play as well. Never thought about the mechanics of why we're doing certain mechanics being explained but I agree there too. It would be cool to know why we're doing certain things.
