I think it is because S-III's are top secret and the S-II's are not. So if they wear there armor not only do they get the strength boost that SPI armor does not have, but they can blend in easier. Normal Marines wont be able to tell the difference. Does this sound plausible to anyone else or is there a better theory?

My thought was this, S-III's were for suicide missions, Noble always came back, so maybe they got MJOLNIR because they didn't always die.
-
You now realize Noble Team is Spartan 2's not Spartan 3's
There is only one S-II on noble the rest are S-III
-
Yes I've read GO, and the elite squad does make a lot of sense. lol guess I never thought about it from that angle [Edited on 09.20.2010 1:51 PM PDT]
Posted by: GUINEAPIGMONSTR well the game has nothing to do with the books and even cntradicts them *cough*halsey*cough dont see why they even used SIII's as it wouldnt made any difference while it fits great with halo 1 it just decides to ignore the books and thats the sad truth and if spartans had spi armour then it would have been a stealth game not realy true to halo
Which is unfortunate the books were pretty good IMHO S3's shouldn't have been on the planet or in the game if anything is should have been the S2's going to defend the Mac generators that were in the game.
-
Loooool, they are using MJOLNIR because they survived countless suicide missions and are as special as the S-II, even though the diference between S-III and S-II is minimal, they are just deployed with the SPI armour to cut costs. The S-III are better trained, faster to produce and cheaper.

Here.... this might help: http://www.bungie.net/projects/reach/article.aspx?ucc=personnel&cid=24040 The phrase "but they are armed as SPARTANS".... and talking about bending the rules. /shrug That's all I've got. :)

I think Noble was an elite team. The spartan IIIs that got SPI were generally the ones that were farmed by the hundreds and were sent on suicide missions. These guys were like... Spec-Ops. So MJOLNIR it is.
-
They are Noble Team, the suicide soldiers that won't freaking die. Why not give them better armor?

I wouldn't want the camo instead of shields anyway. I mean EVA does look extremely similar to SPI it still would be cool to actually see what bungie or 343 thinks it should look in the universe of Halo.

I was watching a video and they said S-II's were built and expected to be killed but somehow NOBLE team survived all of their missions.
-
I was under the impression that SPI armor is cheap compared to your S2 MJOLNIR armor. Spartan III's are disposable super soldiers who are given high-risk suicide missions that only they are capable of pulling off. Thus there's no point in giving them the best, and most expensive, armor around if they're meant to die. Why they are using MJOLNIR armor in Reach is odd, but the members of Noble team might have proven themselves in combat to be worthy of wearing it I guess. [Edited on 09.20.2010 1:37 PM PDT]

A more likely reason is that these Spartan IIIs are the best of the best of the best, sir!
It looks cooler, it's more iconic, and it's what the players want to wear. I just don't think the game would have been the same with some other armor set created by the books.
This is true but that doesn't fit into a fictional story very well and kinda breaks the 4th wall which would not make for a very good halo story. However I wouldn't mind a SPI variant since we are playing as a S-III [Edited on 09.20.2010 1:29 PM PDT]
Posted by: Remy de Sai Plausible. Also, an elite strike team (Or whatever Noble is) would require the best of the best, which in this case IS MJOLNIR. XD
Agreed. A specialist team would receive better equipment after proving they are more than worth the money.
-
I always thought they got it because they were a top secret special strike force for the army.
